If I think back on the heaviest kick serves I can remember having hit, I can recall the feeling in my wrist as being consistent with the movement you have described. It is only now that you have explained the biomechanics that I understand why I had gotten such great results. Knowing the cause makes me want to get out there and replicate that feeling on a consistent basis.

Hi Steve been using middle finger grip to wonderful improvement. I'll need more accuracy but definitely more controlled aggression. 🤗 A serve that's always fascinated is a right handed down the T into the Duece Court taking the receiver wide and wider still on the rebound. I reason that must be a kick/topspin serve. Seen hundreds on TV but replicating the same serve... Ooofff just won't take receiver wider. On the clock I'm brushing 7-1 o'clock. My question have I got the basics all correct or am I fundamentally botching the required technique? Thanks Coach, Happy Father's Day! 👋

Don't you get the forward from pronation - not wrist flexion..?

I think you're right. He is eliminating pronation in the video.

Hi.. All these things are matters of opinion. But. Pronation should be a result of a correct swing path. And a relaxed arm. It is a movement of the entire limb. Not a part of it. So, there wrist does not pronate. The forearm does not pronate. Either they all pronate . Or non of them pronate I try to be specific. I'm this video, I'm really trying to highlight the wrist movement. This is within the overlap swing. And the overall swing includes pronation. Hope that this makes sense.

@@oneminutetennis There are actually two ways of hitting a kick serve. One where you pronate and your wrist finishes palm down and the other without pronation that's described by this video where you finish palm up. This is a similar concept to hitting the slice serve, with and without pronation. Without pronation, typically gives more spin but less pace. I've used both and I typically stick with pronation with all of my serves. That being said, if you want to hit with even more pace on your kick serve, you have to toss into the court and get your body momentum into the serve, like Federer and Edberg. Works for me.

i disagree. the kiick serve is just a "flat" serve to the sky. it's just the angle of the racquet at contact together with pronation that create a strong, consistent, injury free kick serve. nothing you can intentionally / consciously do with the wrist
