Infinite Life by Annie Baker - review of Atlantic Theater & National Theatre production

An 'outstanding' play, says Paul Seven. Annie Baker makes every word and pause count as five women suffering from chronic pain read, doze, and talk. Their subject matter ranges from life, to suffering, to sex. The Atlantic Theater production which played off-Broadway has been brought to the National Theatre complete with direction by James Macdonald, design by dots, and lighting by Isabella Byrd. Paul says it was a privilege to see the American cast of Marylouise Burke, Mia Katigbak, Christina Kirk, Kristine Nielsen, Brenda Pressley and Pete Simpson.
Infinite Life was performed at the Linda Gross Theater in New York from August 18 to October 15, 2023, and from 22 November 2023 to 13 January 2024 at the National Theatre's Dorfman Theatre.

I SO wanted to see this when it was off-Broadway, but unfortunately I did not get a chance. Atlantic is one of the best companies in the US. I don't even live in NYC, but I still remain on their mailing list so I can keep track of their shows. I attend their shows whenever I can!

I'm a big Annie Baker fan, The Flick is one of my favourite pieces of theatre. Saw it in New York, and then again when a production was staged in Toronto. This play seems interesting, hopefully it will get a Toronto production as well at some point.

Yes. It would be great if this production had a continued life but I suspect it’s finished now. I do hope other theatre companies perform Infinite Life- it’s a gift to actors as well as audiences.

Can this still be viewed somewhere? Has it been captured for streaming services perhaps? Your review made me want to see this but the show has unfortunately ended.

a lot of the national theatre's shows eventually go either to cinemas or to their streaming platform

I asked the National Theatre but they said they were unaware of any recording. I’d be surprised if no record of the production was made. Hopefully Atlantic Theater Company have something that will appear sometime in the future.
