OnePlus 5T Teardown! - Hidden water resistance?

6 жыл бұрынThe OnePlus 5T is up for a teardown. Watch in this video as I open up the newest OnePlus 5T and show how the screen and battery can be removed and replaced. Whether you just like seeing tech from the inside, or you actually have something to fix on your own phone, this is a good video to watch.
I will remove the screen from the OnePlus 5t first, followed by the battery and the cameras. The Cameras on the OnePlus 5T do not have OIS unfortunately... but we still get a close up look at the way those are assembled.

Just as a warning. I have a OnePlus 5T from late 2017 bought in the UK. I have just replaced the battery in it and it was not at all easy. The back case, is notoriously difficult to remove - although once I obtained a gap, it was surprisingly easy to remove compared to the difficulties some people had in other videos. However, this is offset by the fact that the loudspeaker cable (the last one Zac unplugs) was glued to the metal bracket (as was the connector that goes to the motherboard right next to it!). I was able to separate the MB connector from the bracket (and had to plug it back in) but the loudspeaker cable was firmly attached to the bracket. To add to the fun, the green tab of the battery just broke off and the battery was not at all easy to remove like Zac shows. It seems that OnePlus must have securely glued the batteries down in later phones. I had to "gently" prise mine out with a pry tool - the battery ended up dangerously warped and fought its removal right to the other side of the phone. Fortunately it didn't explode.

at first i have difficulties in separating the front screen and back cover. then i use a heatgun to blow at the front of phone at the edges, it become way easier to separate them.

Jerry why you never (?) test water resistance with phones claiming to have one. And also testing the waterproofing after your test and see if it survives. Your vids are very nice !

Hey Zack/Jerry, some of us like to cook, and phones play an important part with timers and all that. It’d be cool if you spoke about the hardness of common ingredients used, like sugar, salt, etc and how they affect our screens. Tried to google it with no success, so I’d be thankful if you spoke about it in future videos.

Robert Hardy Yeah, I try to avoid that by all means. It’s always interesting to know how much harm it’d do, however. And there may be microscopic particles of salt left in hands, tables, etc that may crack the display as well.

Just look up table salt or cooking salt on mohs scale. Rock salt has hardness of 2 so you're more likely to break your screen with salt than you are to scratch it.

Its crazy how close to the first one plus this one+5 is on the inside! Its practically the same layout except the camera location. Ive fixed atleast 35 one plus one phones so this is pretty cool that they kept it almost the same over the years

Oneplus 5 don't say it's waterproof but it handled been in water for several minutes and survive. Search for some videos on KZfaq and you will see. (I am talking about Oneplus 5 not 5T)

Rehaan Khan usually an hour to film, 3 to 5 hours for the ending and voiceover depending on the complexity, then another hour or so to upload and publish.

+7171 THE CAPTAIN It won't happen. The OnePlus 5T's main camera has a 27.22mm focal length, and would be too long to fit in the place of the OnePlus 5's main camera, which has a 24mm focal length. The secondary camera on the 5T has a much wider f1.7 aperture, instead of the narrower f2.6 aperture on the OnePlus 5's telephoto lens. Now you know why the 5T's camera module wouldn't fit physically in the 5 (it's too big), and also why the camera bump size increased on the 5T, even though the 5 is the same thickness.
