OnePlus. For years following its 2014 debut the name alone conjured excitement among phone fans - first for value, then for features, and more recently a kind of middle ground between the two. Unfortunately for OnePlus, the words “excitement” and “middle ground” seldom go together … so this year, the company put another name on the only part of its new phone that "sticks out."
To see whether that hump lives up to the hype of the 180-year-old brand name etched upon it, I drove 700 miles to the mountains of North Carolina so I could point the OnePlus Hasselblad … at another Hasselblad: a near-perfect replica of one of the most important cameras of all time -- the one that brought us photos from the moon. I’m MrMobile and this is the Road Trip Review for the OnePlus 9 Pro!

While I like TechAltar and he makes some really good points. I'd have to disagree on this. Yes the cameras on OP phones haven't been award achieving ones, the phones were rather good for the price. Right now I'm using the OP 8T and I just am more satisfied by it in the 4 months I've had it than I've ever been in the past 6 years using Samsung Devices.

@@aaront.9710 the camera on my Samsung galaxy S4 doesn't look that bad. I was scrolling in my Google drive and found pics from my old Samsung. I could still zoom in really far and make out people in the background. Wasn't much detail but I could tell there was some old people and stuff in the park.

@@aaront.9710 I'm comparing them to the Samsung phones I've owned in the past 6 years which includes the S6, S7, S8, S9, S10. Finally I cave and didn't go for a Samsung S20 series but went for oneplus and it's way better then anything Samsung had to offer.

Thanks for sharing all the photo and video samples that many other reviewers leave out. That camera system is pretty disappointing admist all that hype. For that crazy price tag, they need include a rock from the moon 🌗

You know, I like MKBHD and Mrwhosetheboss. I haven't seen their videos yet, and I know I'll enjoy them. But I also know that, for the most part, they'll stay in their room talking to the camera and that's pretty much it. Michael's videos have so much more work, and so much more love put into them. Each video tells a story, with him traveling here and there and bringing some nice video footage to look at. The editing is very smooth, too. The narrating is on point. I like other reviewers, but Michael is the only one I love.

I have been using oneplus ever since 3t and now using 7t. Paying 200 dollars plus to hasalblad is just waste of money. I don't know why oneplus doesn't understand. Google pixel made wonderful camera even before several years with just single lens. If oneplus wants better camera they better hire people from Google camera devision and then raise the price. As of now if I will have to buy a flagship phone I would switch back to Samsung.

Didn't like the ROG 3(too mainstream) nor ROG 5(jesus christ how it that phone so structurally weak?). So many things that went bad after ROG 2. No more hopes for this lineup, for me though at least.

Michael excellent review as always with all your videos btw, I was looking forward to this Hasselblad camera review and other KZfaqrs out there are just jumping on the bandwagon of OnePlus 9 and hyping it up, we're not really getting an honest review of course, you on the other hand tell it like it is, I truly honestly take your reviews with some serious weight and others who tend to be Guru youtubers with millions of subscribers with a grain of salt.. to this day I'm baffled why you're not over 10 million subscribers there's nobody out there that reviews products as good as you and from the bottom of your heart too and that pretty much tells the story, instead of popularity and hype from other KZfaqrs with 10 million plus subscribers people shouldn't look far to get an honest review they should just really truly look at your reviews first before jumping on the bandwagon listening to others..stay safe..

I was pretty hyped about the hassleblad partnership. But I admit, I fell for the marketing. I figured if anyone is going to disturb the space, its OnePlus. But alas, After seeing REAL sample shots from reviews, I might as well keep my Pixel 4 and wait for the Pixel 6. OnePlus as usual is giving you 90% of "flaghship" camera. (Although I admit the ultrawide probably wont get matched by apple or google till the next next generation). As per usual OnePlus, Specs above actual results. Sell the phone on marketing and fan base first, Design second, and Results always speak for themselves which is: dont get caught up in the oneplus hype. There is hype around oneplus ever single year, and every single time I watch the reviews I am left sort of meh, like, its competitive, but I might as well wait for Apple/Google to step up their camera game.

@Tong Zou Zeiss have only done well with Nokia and Sony because both Nokia (had) and Sony (have) fantastic camera teams. Zeiss also probably being the only one out of Leica and Hasselblad who are really still at the forefront of their fields helped too; the other two have been riding at lot on their reputation for years now.

Honestly Agree. I bought a OnePlus 7 Pro last year on sale and I bought it mainly because it was the last flagship OnePlus I could buy without going broke. I still like the company but they're getting too mainstream and not taking enough risks for new innovation. This is a bit disappointing but I can't blame OnePlus for wanting to more attract everyday buyers, it's just sad to see the fun features going away

Mkbhd: it's haptics are good. Mr mobile: the haptics are anemic. It's stuff like this, that just doesn't help. Im sure it's somewhere in the middle and dependent on the user but man. When there is no uniformity in reviews it makes it hard to gauge the device.

I've never been able to wrap my head around how this guy's entire video is so well narrated and abides to every rule I remember reading about regarding editing, sound design, and scripting. I am disappointed in OnePlus... They don't seem to care about longevity (Hardware) and value for money any more like they did in the old days. Almost everything got worse with every new product: - No removable battery anymore - No expandable storage anymore - Notches and Punch holes - Curved Screens - Ever larger and more expensive devices - No Headphone jack anymore Every point I mentioned is valid and will be mistaken for old or unnecessary. I guess they finally settled...

I'm curious - did you try the "Hasselblad Pro Mode" that they mentioned in the launch event? I haven't seen any of the reviewers so far use it. I think all the samples that OnePlus have shown were taken using it.

Hassleblads contribution is mainly towards the lens and not the software. To take advantage of the lens you have to shoot in manual mode or pro mode OnePlus 9 pro is not for everyone.

I think the reason why people don't really like the colors are because of the ISP (Image Signal Processor) chip that's in the Snapdragon 888. If OnePlus took some time and developed their own ISP, maybe it would look a lot better than it is now. Hopefully one day, we'll get there, but for now, we're not there yet.

oh lordy phones have come a long way... I'm still rocking the oneplus 5T...... the 9pro seems like a great option right now.... after I side load viper4android and sony's music player app... The editing in quality in your videos are also phenomenal

Great review Michael But I am not going to buy a OnePlus phone again I bought a OnePlus 7 in 2019 and the software situation and customer support is just awful I still have not received android 11 update and I have thermal throttling issues as the phone automatically starts heating up at idle I have even performed a factory data reset I told this to OnePlus but no response Their call holds are just huge once I stayed one the phone for an hour but no response Even the chat you keep sitting in a queue . Thoroughly disappointed

Does the Moto Razr have issues with horizontal-clamping phone holders? I saw it was put in the cupholder in the vehicle-- that's exactly what I do with my HTC U11 because the squeeze function disagrees with most phone car mounts. I wonder if that's the case with the Razr, or it's just a rental car and you guys didn't have a phone mount handy.

So I'm on a 2 year old Huawei p30 pro and never has my current phone been so competitive after this time. I have cameras that are just as good (zoom beats this hands down), battery life giving me 7+ hours screen on time and runs as fast as the day I got it. The only thing this years batch of phones offer is the higher refresh rate screens. Theres just no incentive to upgrade

Thank you very much, Michael Sir for this Honest Review. It was a very interesting watch. You mentioned a lot of features (cons) and lackluster pricing that many other reviewers seem to have intentionally left out. Even Mrwhosetheboss's video didn't seem all that right this time - a lil awkward, he didn't talk about the Selfie camera and was praising the Pricing for some reason - it is cheaper, but not cheap.
