They targeted Shaffelburg tonight. They were relentless with their physicality on him. Why? They watched the videos and were intimidated by what he had done and the Chileans were having none of that. Talk about establishing cred!

Canada has never been good at creating chances when teams focus on defending. Much better scoring on the counter.
@mccullochmike2 күн бұрын
To talk about glasses being half full today is of poor taste. Today is a glass is full day. But for ghits and siggles I’ll play half of your game. Glass half full: 8 of 10 halves have been clean sheets. Canada tied France. Canada played very well against the #1 team in the world in only Marschs 3rd game as a coach. Canada scored in Copa America. Canada won a game at Copa America against a higher ranked team. Canada advanced at Copa. Canada has great confidence under Marsch, is gaining rapid experience and has shown strong composure. Canada continue to play “away” games in tough environments and have largely been unflappable. Canada is showing greater depth than what many thought we had and their defence, which was supposedly going to be a weakness has been a strength. This team has taken Canada to a new level. The naysayers said Argentina would beat them 8-0. They were wrong. They said Peru would crush Canada, they were wrong. They said Chile is better than Canada and will dismantle them. They were wrong. Canada has quality, they have maturity, they are resilient and they have found ways to be successful in a huge tournament even when they don’t play their best. Glass half full? Pffft, right now the jug is full. Couldn’t be happier for this team.

Osorio put in a good shift, but it was definately a risk to rely on Osorio in a double pivot. A full strength Chile side wouldve exploited that i think.

I swear Chili had a player stop a shot in the box with the back of his arm, which he purposely swung his arm out to stop the ball. It should have been a penalty shot.

Huge props to the effort of the team especially defensively and keeping composure in some awful looking conditions. What I don't like is they look a lot like the pre world cup qualifying Canada offensively. Against 10 for most of the match and still producing no real danger to Chile. One mishandle off the fingertips by Crepeau in stoppage time and they could have been out was playing with fire. Under Herdman they seemed to have a lot more movement getting into space to receive a pass and push into the dangerous areas but right now there is a lot less movement, lots of standing waiting for the pass. It could be due to the heat but watching other matches better teams seem to move around lots. I counted at least 3 good chances at a shot from inside the box where guys messed up their ball handling instead of shooting immediately or tried to make a pretty pass. Mostly, and it's understandable because of the pressure in this new situation but they are just that much slow to decide on shooting and losing angles and open nets. All the dribbling and ball control is nice but at some point they're going to have to start putting balls towards the net and create some chaos maybe getting deflections or rebound goals and not looking for perfect crosses once the defence is back in position. Davies was guilty of this multiple times where he lost possession trying to dribble past multiple guys in close to goal, where before we've seen him stop up and swing a cross into the box or look for a open guy in the middle. I have faith they will continue to improve every time they play these quality sides.

So I assume you’re in the locker room? Best player of the national team? The same guy that can’t crack the Porto lineup that might be playing in MLS next season? Stop smoking pot, man, it’s clearly baked your brain.
@jackbilo2819Күн бұрын
@JonBernier-zl2pe 1. I'm in the stands watching and listening to what happens on the field. 2. The best and most consistent player for the national team since his debut is Eustaquio. 3. The only player who can dream of cracking the Porto lineup is he and Davies. Eustaquio had many family issues this year, but clearly, your knowledge of the situation is limited. There are no plans of selling him. Don't do drugs.

Jesse needs to sit Larin, his form has been on a downward trajectory for club and country. Invisible at the World Cup and invisible the last 5 games under Jesse. This pressing system does not suit his style and Canada needs a consistent attacking threat.

A Gift from the organization, Bombito playing for free after committing assault at the start of the match with that elbow, and a second yellow card to the Chilean player Suazo which was not even a foul. Chile with one man down for 70 minutes generated more offensive volume than Canada.

Like Paulie Gualtieri stated to Feech LaManna: "In my book, you get points for staying outta the can!" In other words, while it may be true that it is not good that they could not score on a 10-man opponent, the fact that they kept their 11 men on the field counts for a good amount, nonetheless.

I just want to put it out there to make sure you know your audience's full thoughts. I hate the name vamos. Makes me feel like I'm watching folks with no knowledge or understanding of the audience they're Ossining l presenting to. It's great that there is a big spanish language culture in football. It's not Canada's culture though. We need to stop pretending to be other things. I hate this as much as I hate every talking head on tsn major tournaments having a British accent. We are us, stop pretending to be some other thing. It's not too late, remove the bad name so we're not embarrassed to watch please and thank you.
