My Dad gave Me details of this recipe before He passed. He adamantly said," SuGa, You cook those cabbages just like I'm telling You", You will NEVER Cook Your cabbage any other way. Pops never lied. RIP Daddy❤.

In Jamaica we call this cook-up cabbage (we sometimes add cho cho or carrots). We do it with MANY ways: by itself, with bacon, ham, bully beef (corned beef), salt fish, salt mackerel. Served with white rice, yam (white or yellow), green bananas, fried ripe or green plantains, flour dumpling (boil or fried), roast breadfruit, fried sweet potato (NOT American sweet potato) or good 'ole Jamaican harddough bread with butta! Have mercy!

Yes, Jamaicans are very creative with their cabbage, my personal favourite is the saltfish with cabbage or just stir fried cabbage with Bell peppers of various colours, onions, celery, green onions and seasonings like black pepper and some scotch bonnet ( not too much!)

Haha, this is my favorite cooking video I’ve seen in a long time. No muss, no fuss, no never ending commentary, no distracting music, just clear and straight to the point. I learned everything I needed in 48 seconds! I have a craving for this right now. I don’t have any peppers on hand, nor Andouille sausage, but I do have cabbage, and onions, and some Italian sausage, so I’m about to do my own version with that, have it over rice. It is cooking right now. I have a feeling it will come out just fine and I will eat every bite. Thank you!

*I usually make cabbage soup and it's good. I'm trying your recipe right now and it smells so amazing! I'm vegan so I used Field Roast Garlic & Fennel sausage. First- this is such a great, learning video, no loud music, clear voice- looks delicious! To the point of WHO this type of cooking/food should take "credit"-- stop and think!! Our grandmothers, aunts, parents,WHOEVER DID THE COOKING YEARS AGO, cooked VERY similar to this--why?? To feed their large families-- I am of Italian-decent, my father cooked like this to feed a big family, pulled whatever was in refrig. to feed a hungry bunch- we ate this kind of food alot, filled our belly and we were happy..... many ethnic groups ate this way.....think back, EVERYONE. Happy eating, to all.

That looks so delicious. This is the first time I have ever cooked this meal. I am very excited I went to the store and got everything that I seen on this video to make sure I do my part y'all keep your fingers crossed for me okay. Look like you know how to work it in the kitchen. I do all the cooking my husband don't know how to cook but I'm blessed to have a countryman in my life. Some of my lady friends tell me that they husband cook real good I feel like they are blessed to have a husband to cook for them. I don't have a problem cooking for the rest of my life some people just blessed to have husband or boyfriend to cook. My precious grandmother taught me how to cook. I just can't figure why I didn't learn how to cook hot water cornbread. I tried my best to do this and I went to the store and got everything that I needed and it didn't work out for me. I got a little discouraged so right now I just have to wait on oldest brother to teach me. I miss my precious grandfather and grandmother. Those were the good old days. Well, all I can say is that if you got you a good man and you love him and he respects and loves you then you got you a keeper and even who cares if he can cook. If he doesn’t know how to cook then I’d be willing to bet that he can do something else that a lot of men who can cook can’t do so in the end it evens out!!! And you are absolutely correct saying that this fried cabbage looks so delicious. I’m about to leave work and stop on my way home and get everything to make some tonight!!! Also, as for that hot water corn bread, I’m pretty sure you should be able to find a t least a few videos here on KZfaq that will show and explain in detail how to go about making it. Then you make it once and make whatever adjustments you want to make and then see how it turns out. Then next time you make it you can make any other adjustments you feel like you need to and keep on fine tuning it til you get it tasting like your grandmothers hot water cornbread. Girl, if there’s a will there’s a way!!! I do it all the time with different recipes. Good luck with your cooking adventures and you know it’s never to late to teach your husband how to cook a few dishes!!! Then y’all can get in there together and tear up that kitchen while spending quality time together!!! Anywho, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of all New Years!!!

Omg that brings back memories. ♥️ I'm white, but my oldest Aunt used to make fried cabbage with sliced sausage, and would always make pintos cooked with hamhock and dirty rice to go with it. 🤤🤤 She'd throw together "strawberry dumplins" for dessert, and that was hands down one of the best meals. Only saw her a few times a year growing up, but always loved visiting her. She passed away last year.

SMDH. I dont believe that. Why not give the black person credit that taught her?? My white dialysis patient told me that when she was little her BLACK MAID taught her and her family how to cook. She passed our food down to her kids and grandkids and great grand kids. God rest her soul, she is missed. At least she gave blacks credit, but this Columbus effect with the rest of yawl is getting old. 🤦🏾‍♀️

I wasnt giving credit to any damn one, just typing a special memory that the video brought up of my Aunt. I've worked with black *ladies*, and I mean women who were kind, considerate, and loved sharing their cooking and recipes with me, without acting like they were gatekeepers. My favorite cornbread recipe came from one those ladies. But you can't come pushing in implying folks had black maids, and demand I give credit....where I have no clue where it's due. And neither do you.

This is amazing, I grew up on this . He added the sausage with the onions and carrots. My mom and 👵 did it they added the bacon with potatoes (white) Super good.

Bro I do the very same thing but I add 2 cans butter beans, Eckrich sausage and bacon, jalapenos, sprinkle lil flour for thickness.....cornbread on the side....OMG thats what you call comfort food in the winter by a fireplace . 😋or that's a hug when nobody else will give you one lol I'm just saying. Yes he's right didn't mean to steal your thunder..I use jalapenos you use bell peppers it's still all good. Thank you for sharing.
