Onew has repeatedly said that Selene 6.23 is his favorite Shinee song and I think now it just has so much meaning behind it. It's also a fan favorite and clearly it resonated with Sunwoo Jungha as well. I'd also highly recommend Onew and Jonghyun's duet, "Please Don't Go." It is such a brilliant performance.

This actually kind of gave fans a bit relief.. it’s raw,, it’s painful to watch as fans but at the same time yeah a relief seeing Onew show how he felt. Being SHINee’s leader he’s usually the one to comfort everyone and be that shoulder to lean on.. he tends to keep it all up.

As the leader of SHINee, Onew always had this mindset of having to be the strong, unfazed one. He said in an interview after Jonhyun passed, that he felt like he shouldn't cry. Even during Jonhyun's funeral, he was just standing there quietly while Key was crying on his shoulder and Onew just held his hand, so when they had the first concert without Jonhyun and Onew actually cried when performing, in a way i was glad because he was able to let his emotions run free. They should be able to cry when they want to, same as they should be able to smile whenever they want.

I'll give some context about what's hapenning: That's a clip from a show called "Sea of Hope" where a group of various artists have a bar by the sea and they serve food and drinks to normal people who made a reservation beforehand, while they are singing and "giving them hope". The woman is a special guest, and she sang a song right before that's called "Run away". It's a very emotional song, and that's why ONEW it's very vulnerable, specially when he needs to sing a song after that that's written by Jonghyun, the Shinee's member that passed away.

When I first saw this I noticed his whole body language, you can see him clenching his hand when he started singing (he already feel emotional from the previous song and it was a rainy night so the mood is naturally a bit mellow, so he might do it unconsciously to control the overwhelming emotion), then how he fidgets mid song and finally released all his emotion into the song later on, his body language was more open, his hand unclenced and he started to smile a little (barely visible but his expression got more relaxed). As a long-time shawol it both broke my heart and assured me at the same time. It's like his whole body language said sth very similar to what key also mentioned before : it's okay to feel sad, it's okay to miss Jonghyun, it's okay to feel all this emotion, but in the end let's continue living happily while remembering all the beautiful memories Jonghyun has brought us. Onew said it before too that he's not that good with words, but seeing this performance, I can almost hear these words.

Whenever I listen to this performance it feels like Jinki is singing it to Jonghyun he gave it his everything

"Selene 6.23 " is another one of the dozens of songs that was written by Jonghyun, SHINee's main vocalist, and it has now become a song that the members often sing as a tribute to him. That is why Onew became so emotional, and why you saw everyone tearing up. It's songs like this that demonstrates just how good Jonghyun was as a songwriter and why SHINee are some of the best in the industry when it comes to vocals. :D (You really need to hear a live concert version of the song with all 5 of the SHINee members singing the song.) Sunwoo Junga sings a lot of Jonghyun's lines in this performance, which makes it even more heart-wrenching if you know what the original version sounds like. As you saw, Onew teared up during this performance. Even before he started the song he had to take a minute to compose himself, but as he said, he actually sings even better when he is emotional. If you watch SHINee's SHINee World Concert 2018 - Best from Now On concert that they held only 2 months after Jonghyun's death, you will understand what I mean. Both the SHINee members and audience cried throughout the whole concert, but they still all sounded magnificent and their vocal quality wasn't even affected. And if you knew Jonghyun, you would know he had a very soft heart and would often cry in concerts, but he could always deliver his lines in a song, even while sobbing, and he still sounded flawless. That's why SHINee are on such another level, they are experts at what they do and that's why they are so highly respected by everyone. As others may have mentioned, Selene means moon in Greek and 6.23 (2013) was when we had a supermoon, which means the moon was really close to the Earth that day, making it appear extra big and bright. If you pay attention to the lyrics, you see the song has a lot of deep meaning. Jonghyun really loved the moon. He saw a lot of beauty and symbolism in the moon and often talking about the moon in interviews and conversations. Jonghyun said he wrote the song thinking about how the distance between the Moon and Earth was similar to the distance between SHINee and their fans all over the world. The alternate title of the song is "The Distance Between Us," which has now taken on even more meaning since his passing. (We now interpret the lyrics to be talking about the distance between us here on Earth and Jonghyun in Heaven.) It was even said that the moon turned a pearl aqua color -- SHINee's fan color -- the day of Jonghyun's funeral. And fans took comfort in the fact that this meant that his spirit had made it to Heaven and that he was now at peace. Thank you for appreciating Jonghyun's work and for loving Onew. The way to honor Jonghyun's memory is to watch him in everything he did throughout his career and to react to his music and listen to his songs, and to appreciate tributes like this one, etc. So, go ahead and react to as much SHINee content, and even Jonghyun's solo work, as you can. It's OK if it makes us a little emotional sometimes, but the way to get to know him and SHINee better is to really spend some time getting to know them as the amazing performers that they are. All Jonghyun ever wanted was to make people happy through his work and to influence the world with his songs and lyrics. So, honor him by discovering what an amazing person he was and seeing exactly what he wanted people to remember him for. Yes, it's sad sometimes, but it doesn't necessarily always have to be that way if you just appreciate his work for what it is and live in the moment. His final words to the world were "Tell me I did Well." And that is what we fans try to do. By continuing to watch and listen to Jonghyun's and SHINee's music, and appreciating the hundreds of clips of him we are lucky enough to have with SHINee as a group of 5, we are showing Jonghyun that, yes indeed, you did well and your life will forever be meaningful to thousands of people. You will never be forgotten Jonghyun, you did well.

It took me three years to get over it. I was so sad now I feel as a normal fan not a grieving one, if you get what I mean. I can't imagine how they feel. It must be really hard still. It took me 7 years to sing my mom's favorite song after her passing, imagine Onew singing one of his favorites in public. I love him for being so strong.

It was the most painful performance I have ever seen. Five microphones for boys tears and heartache. But in true shinee form through there tears they nailed it. But then I realized it was way harder on them so I should show my love and support with the views to show that it did matter to us too. I have followed and loved Shinee since 2008. I love them all, but Jonghyun was special always. He was and is still my only bias. Saying that, maybe you can get how hard it was for me to get through this. The pain never goes away, it just gets alittle more livable.

im so late but i absolutely LOVE how you explained everything so well, these are the things i try to comment about on alot of vids like this. we are all human, everyone feels emotions even idols, and music is therapy. music fills that void and helps the healing process especially if the music was from the one who passed, or even if it was just their favorite music. im a medium, seeing, hearing, and talking to spirits is what i do, if you believe it or not is up to you. but an important thing that i wish everyone would know is that, when you are listening to music or singing a song that was special to your passed loved one, 9/10 times they will be there with you, even if you cant see them or feel them, they are called by the fact that they are in your mind, that you are thinking of them and something they loved. they might visit, sing, dance, send you their positive energy to tell you its going to be ok. you might feel some type of closure after and this is probably why. sometimes this is actually one of the ways they are able to move on, knowing that you are alright and ready from them to go. many spirits stay to make sure their loved ones are okay- as in mentally and emotionally ok not to turn to something bad to cope. alot of people will receive some sort of sign when they turn to bad coping mechanisms and thats usually their loved ones saying "Hey, stop it, im still here for you" which may make the living person change their ways, because its a pretty powerful and influential experience. once the living are able to properly cope with their loss, the spirit will feel well enough to move on to {heaven}(there are multiple versions of what we know as heaven), and the living will feel a sort of comfort. for anyone who is or has dealt with a loss, i promise you, they are safe and happy, but they usually only move on when they know YOU are ready. alot of people will feel a weight lifted off of them, or they wont feel so much sorrow when their loved one has moved on. itll be replaced with light happiness, acceptance, feeling content or like you want to celebrate that persons life instead of grieving the loss.

Onew and Jonghyun - Please don't go. - Their voices are haven together. Onew - Rainy Blue - that was his first solo stage after a scary surgery that left him unable to speak for months and having to relearn singing not knowing if he could ever sing again. Shinee - From now on - probably the most emotional performance I've ever seen, but it's honestly too heartbreaking to recommend. His vocal is super powerful in it tho. Diamond sky from that concert is the same way. Watch at your own risk... Shinee - and Encore - is just a very beautiful, emotional song. All of them sound great in it. Onew - Blue - for epic vocals. and Love Phobia from the new album. Then Shinee - Woof Woof to cheer you up haha. This version of Selene to me is about as good as the studio one. Their voices sounded so great together, especially in these powerful parts. The lyrics themselves are so emotional, context aside. Just a beautiful song and performance.
