Bought my stepson a DW 5600 yesterday at my Casio dealer here in Qatar..........and finally got myself one of these GX 56bb-1 babies while in there!!!

I love how you can wear Rolex watches and then throw on an affordable G Shock! I know people who wouldn't buy a Seiko 5 because they'd be embarrassed to wear "such a cheap watch". 🙄

5 days out of the week i sport a GW9400. It is a badass, and by extension, makes me a badass. Love G-Shocks, need to buy more, many more.

I bought one from this review essentially. It’s big and chunky but it feels like a celebration of the G-shock/Casio aesthetic. When I wear it, I feel like I’m as tough as some of the people who wear one because it stands up to the abuse.

I liked the 56 so much, I bought three of them so I would always have one. I never understood why Casio took them out of production a few years ago. Turned out they were so popular, that scumbags started to counterfeit them. I guess Casio got the message, because they brought them back into the lineup a year ago.

You don't even have to press the light button every time. You can hold the light button for a moment for Auto Electroluminescent aka Backlight. The icon, "A.EL" should pop up letting you know that you have that on. Slightly turn your wrist to a 45° angle and bam, backlight will turn on.

Great review. This is a perfect go-to/EDC/Tactical watch at an affordable price. Do not hesitate to buy and try not to heed sporadic negative comments about the screen getting fogged up in cold and humid areas. There are always misusage, counterfeits and also obviously fake comments around every successful subject.

I want the GXW56BB-1JF. It’s the same watch, but different because the 1JF has the Multiband 6 Atomic time keeping. It’s overkill and unnecessary, but I want it anyway because I love overkill and unnecessary lol.

I ordered one of these just yesterday from amazon (I didn’t know about you) and it’s supposed to arrive in two days. I’ve had G-Shocks since the ‘80s introduction when the 5600 was like the Hyundai Excel-the only model in the line. I currently have the solar powered 5600 import, so I know that I’m going to love this model.

Bought it in Bangkok,just love it!! Have the G-shock Gulfmaster and now it’s in my drawer...resting after 3 years or so...welcome king !!! Long live the king!

See, actually reading the numbers on the negative display is tricky especially if it’s in direct sunlight. The backlight is extremely dim and only lights up for a few seconds. You get used to it, and the ‘auto light’ setting that automatically backlights for a second when you flick your wrist helps a bit. I still love the watch and I just wish this one had the new MIP display and it would be just too good!

I'm mostly into smaller squares but I do have a GXW56 that I wear on occasion. I really like that watch and out of all the larger G-Shocks, it's one of the few that actually doesn't look out of place on my wrist.

I got me one a few months ago...and I love it! No. 1 watch for swimming, camping and even a night out with the boys- conversation piece:)

I have the version of this watch that has both the solar and 6 band auto time receiver. I like it a lot. The negative displays are difficult to read in low light if not using the back light. The LCD displays used in the watches are passive-reflective. The negative display has a very small amount of reflection area for light. The positive display type watches are easy to read under low light.

I got this watch back in January but I don't wear it all that much. Yes it is a very nice G-Shock but I realize it's a bit too big for my wrist and legibility is a bit difficult. Not selling it though. It's really nice and it's the definitive G-Shock, at least in my opinion.

My second fave "budget" G Shock (my all time fave is the GW9400). I do love the look of the all metal ones too tho!

Just got mine today. Absolute beast of a watch. I love it. I also don’t get the ‘can’t see it in low light’ comments. Turn on auto back light already? Problem solved.

I've always wanted a G Shock and this year I finally got to buy me my first G Shock, this being the GG-1000-1A5 and immediately fell in love with it but I didn't expect was to become addicted to G Shocks and then stumbling onto your channel searching for tutorials on how to use my new G Shock. Long story short in less than a month I am the proud owner of 9 G Shocks now thanks to you and your passion for them in your videos. I own today: GG-1000-1A5; GW-5600; GW-M5610-1; GX-56BB-1; DW-6900; GW-6900; GA100-1 (Black and white versions); GA-110. :p Love them all and I have more on scope to acquire in the future (of COURSE the BEAST (GWG-1000-1A3); GG-B1000-1A3; GW9400; GWF-1000). I quickly learn that you can't have enough G Shocks. Thanks man. You definitely awoke a fire for watches in me. :)

You're my favourite KZfaq watch reviewer. You are not pretentious at all and I like that you enjoy watches for real. Not just because they are expensive but because they have unique qualities. I, like you, enjoy pricey watches because I like them for what they are, but I also love G Shocks for their unique contributions to horology. I love my GS56bb1, by the way. I like it WAY more than I had thought that I would. It's too big....in all the right places, ha ha. It looks super retro-futuristic to me and it is soooooo tough. It's also great for my work as it seems near-indestructible. I do not have any trouble reading it....and if it is dark out then I use the backlight. I also love how light it is. The tougher strap and screw-in buckle. Oh, mama. I love it. That price. I love it. I wear it lots of fun places. Thanks for your reviews. It's my go-to when I'm doing something that Is more likely to mar up my gwg-1000. Don't get my wrong, the gwg-1000 can take it all....but at that price I don't want to scrape it up too badly too quickly, ha ha. The King, however.....can take it without a care! Alternative to this is the gd350. Unfortunately not solar but has a far more legible negative display.

I have a G-Shock GW-M5610BC-1JF JDM modell with auto light function. Solar, radio controll, and unique bracellet. I think the coolest G-Shock ever.

I wear my DW-5600 everywhere. I really wish I could find it's solar powered brother but since it's JDM only, they are hard to come by or they are over my budget. I can live with it's long lasting battery! Very cool alternative though.

I’ve had mine for 8 years. I’ve worn it every single day. It’s on its original battery and has had an unbelievably tough life but is only now starting to show its age. I’m just going to buy another one. Toughest watch out there I’d say. Bargain.

If your wrist is less that 7.5 then don't even worry about this watch haha it's huge ! I'm 6'8 and have large wrists and I often feel like it's too big haha .. epic watch tho for the price:)

Y'all oughta stick to the gxw-56-1bjf instead. It's got multi band 6 and a positive display so it's way more legible plus the screen has this green tint to it which reminds me of the old game boy screens and how can that not make you smile?

got me interested, Jory! :) i´ve sported a few G-s in the history, but gave almost mint DW-5600 tough solar to my brother recently (cause there are always some mechanical watches to wear). this military black is seriously big and i´m also not wearing watches that huge usually. but feels like gotta try :)

Can’t see how this is better than the GWM-5610, which has all the same features plus multi-band atomic syncing, and which looks more like the classic DW- 5600e to boot.

I just wish the backlight would stay on twice as long. This is the only complaint I have about all the Casio watches

I have one and wear it every day. If I had any concerns about it. It would be the screen visibly in lower light. Otherwise, it's a dam tank and feels indestructible.

You don't understand. Dark is fine, use the light. Sunny days, bright rooms, it's fine. It's "dusk like" conditions, low light, so low that you can't see the display, but bright enough that the light doens't help. In those circumstances it is very hard to read. (not this one only, but all with negative displays)

Nice, but I can't deal with negative displays, all the ones i have tried are difficult to see in certain light - not just at night

Anyone knows why casio isn't making their gshock series more 'tactical' and outdoorsy? Instead they use their thin recycled biomass plasticky protrek series for that. At least have the abc sensors. Such missed opportunity for them.

Hi, is this alright to buy? Iys the same as your watch the Gx-56bb, but they say its made by a third party manufacturer, not a replica, and they used same material and has the same function as the original, only cheaper...

I wish they had made the gbd200 the same size as the gx56bb. I wouldve love it like a brother, but its just too small and flimsy.
