This was my 5th week spending $20 bucks for food. You may be surprised at what I bought this time. What’s the budget for the coming month? It remains to be seen. Let me know what you think. #groceryhaul

I think the $20 a week and $5 restock is an excellent idea. I would love to see the five-dollar restock items shown after you show us what you buy for the week. People can get a good idea of how to restock the pantry while you are shopping weekly. Awesome video once again! 🙂 BTW, I have anxiety when I have to go out shopping as well, so I understand. Just picture taking us in with you. We're right there with you. 💕

Definitely take $5 a week to restock prices are not going to go down and with all we have going on in our country, having a well stocked pantry is crucial. These videos are good for those who are really trying to survive and inspiring for me personally to save money for savings. Things I don't see in your grocery shopping is coffee or tea a main staple in most households. Anna In Ohio
@simplefoodsimplelife963223 күн бұрын
That’s a good question Anna! Thank you for asking. Coffee and tea is a staple in my home as well. Two Christmases ago, my oldest son gave me a coffee subscription as a gift. He has a nice bag of coffee sent to me from a different vendor in the US every 2 weeks. He decided to continue the subscription this past Christmas so the deliveries continue. For Mother’s Day he was kind enough to give me 4 large bags of coffee from various entrepreneurial coffee vendors. So as you can imagine I’m well stocked in coffee. As for Tea, I usually purchase a box of black tea from Dollar Tree. It’s very good. I also like Earl Gray tea. I appreciate your question. I think I will address this in a video. Thanks again.

I'm new to your channel. I assume that your weekly $20 does not include pet foods (if you have pets), cleaning supplies, paper goods, right? I love that you share with us what you have left over each week. I am widowed and live alone, so there's just myself to feed. I have about a year's worth of food stockpiled, so I should be able to make the $20 per week work if I spend only on food. I'm looking forward to watching your videos in the future. Diane in NC

Hy-Vee has 10lb chicken quarters for $6.70. Walmart is around $8.70. That’s 67-87 cents a pound! I haven’t found a better deal than that. Sometimes Hy-Vee also has small pork chops for 88 cents each. I could get a weeks worth of meat for about $12. This leaves some for veggies. Carrots are usually around $1/ pound. I also shop the $1 isle at DG. Watch DG’s coupons too. Sometimes you get things cheap or free! I got some free nail polish yesterday that I gave to a friend for her birthday.

Yes that's how I do and I also buy more if meat is on sale price and freeze 1/2 and can 1/2 the meats. Because I was buying meats in can but not anymore,because it tastes much better in canned jars,I've been buying leg quarters but will change too thighs only for the bones for bone broth witch doubles up my meals and I always keep veggies on hand and if they start going soft I just can them up or make soups too can. This way I have room in my freezer for meats breads and stir fry veggies, chopped veggies for egg rolls, I just learned I can turn the garlic scapes into pesto witch I will freeze for later meals. Next I want too make onion jam and have canned for later meals. I've been gleening free veggies and fruit that way I can stock my pantry and have more cash for extra meats and dairies.

Especially if items are on sale, make the purchase. And some weeks you may not need to spend the $5.00, depends on store sales. Great meat buys from Jewell! Butter freezes well also. I think if you purchased food with the $120.00 all at once instead of the $20.00 each week you could get much more for your dollar. And save maybe $10.00 or $20.00 out for fresh food during the month. Like if you purchased flour, rice, noodles tomato paste or sauce those staple can really go a long way. But if you purchase them each week that would be about all you could get.

When I lived alone I would buy family packs of meat and split them down into meals. I would get a pkg of chicken breasts... 5 or 6 in the pkg...and that would give me 1 breast for 5 or 6 meals. An 8 pack of hot dogs would give me 4 meals. 1 lb of hamburger would give me enough for american chop suey and some for spaghetti sauce or sloppy joes. I am not a big eater so this worked out great for me. Still had enough left over for other other food I needed.

I find that bone in chicken breast is extremely budget friendly. They go on sale for 99 cents a pound. We are light eaters and one breast will make four portions plus I make stock with skin and bones. For about a dollar you have four meals plus stock for soup and little tidbits for your dog. Often I will grind the meat in a food processor and use in place of ground beef. I feel this is a healthy option. A package of four breast runs around 5.50.

The best part was at the end when you showed us how you packaged the meat into useable portions. I have been trying to figure out how to help my elderly Mom do this and keep it all fresh. I foodsaver our meats into 1 pound packages for our family, but that is too much for her. If I food saver a couple drumsticks, I end up wasting too much of the roll to create a bag and 1 ziplock freezer bag doesn't keep it fresh and things stick together (even if I freeze ahead of time). I like your idea with the painters tape as well. The darn sharpie smears all over the package. Thank you for sharing.❤
@simplefoodsimplelife963218 күн бұрын
Thanks Katherine. The fold over sandwich bags are one dollar for 125 bags. I just put the individual servings in the bag, place them in a freezer bag and lay flat it the freezer. The best part is you can reuse the freezer bags because they don’t get dirty from what’s inside. Saves so much time and money. The only thing I freeze ahead are the hamburger patties. I use painters tape for the reason you stated. Plus it comes off of the bag easier. All the best to your mom!

They make quart bags for the food saver. We buy a bulk box of fish fillets and divide it out and freeze 2 in a quart bag.
@katherinetyrrell88109 күн бұрын
@@redshed2020 Right now, I have the rolls and create my own bags -- honestly, I always seem to waste material because I can't seem to measure correctly. Her method is a low cost option that would be practical, and inexpensive. I will, however, look into the quart bags. Thank you. Where have you gotten your quart size bags? Is it actually the food saver brand? My roll is from Costco.

I loved the expression on your face after your Fareway meat haul. Well done. I haven't watched all your videos, so apologies in advance. I struggle with what to do with leftover pork and beef fat. For example to get the most out of the chicken leg quarters always on sale in my area, I first add two or three cups of water to a bowl, put two leg quarters in, place the bowl in a prepared instant pot and cook for the recommended time. I pull out the leg quarters carefully and bake in the oven until the skin is crispy. I let the stock cool, skim off the fat for smaltz chocolate chip cookies and make other things with the broth. So for example, I got two chicken dinners, two corn grit made with broth breakfasts, and two healthy portions of chicken and dumplins out of two chicken leg quarters and 8 cookies. OOps, I also fried up a half pound of bacon and added that fat to the cookies. I distribute the fat and calories over the meals and don't have a lot of yucky grease to throw away. I really like how tender the instant pot makes the meat as well. Do you have any ideas for using pork and beef in this way? Especially the fat from pork roasts, just seems so greasy and I really struggle with it. Maybe I just don't like it.

Thanks for sharing Ellie! I generally try to save fat renderings. Just drain in a half pint jar and keep in the refrigerator. I also buy beef fat and make tallow. I do have a video on that. It’s easy in the crock pot. I also keep bacon fat.

There is a KZfaq channel from Nova Scotia Canada called, Adventures in Groceryland. She shows how she grocery shops and makes her money stretch. You could get some good tips from her.

Don't you just hate the 5 week months? Stretching my SS 25% farther is really difficult. Last month I managed to spend $61 because i was clearing out the freezer. This month I'm already up to $63 so I need to try and not spend more than $17 for the rest of June.
