Actually you can loot bodies that are not dead but have been knocked out with non-lethal attacks, at least some of the time. I looted Minthara in the goblin camp without killing her, resulting in her appearing before Kethric for her trial in act two completely naked. When my dark justiciar Shadowheart fought Viconia for control of the church, Viconia somehow got knocked out with what should have been a lethal attack. I was able to loot her key from her then, but I had to hit her one more time to actual kill her in order to take the shield, robe, and mace. I managed to use Control Undead on the Apostle of Myrkul, which did not let me look Kethic''s body for his netherstone even after I decided to attack and kill my friendly avatar of the god of death I was able to loot his note from Isobel, his sheild war hammer, and a supply pack from the avatar, but not his armor or netherstone so I had to save scum that time to proceed to act 3.

one of the best things you can do, is camp at the prison entrance with aoe spells (spike groth, hunger of hadar), and let the scrieing eye alert the guards over and over, those guards are ACUAL guards from the tower, but if you kill them in the prison, the tower itself wont be hostile

You can pick off a lot of the enemies in moonrise before you even get to this fight by clearing out the lower level rooms before going to kethric's tomb. It then just turns into a normal fight that's over in 2-3 rounds with a few good AOE's while Jaheira is still dashing to get into it or wandering outside in panther form

The best way to do this and still get good exp from this is to kill the half-orc in her office along with the scrying eye, tell the duergar to get rid of the recruits, befriend the gnolls by passing a persuasion check and killing the warden down in the prisons. This way you only have to deal with a few enemies along with some allied gnolls which help quite a bit against the archers on the rafters but I would recommend trying to get most of the harpers up the stairs before starting the fight so they dont waste 1-2 turns just dashing

instead of going in the door on the second floor, you can keep going around the outside of the tower and you will see platforms that you can fly to (you may need to do some camera work to see them and fly to them). These will skip the entire second floor and you will go directly to the boss fight

Gale Evocation Firewall on the middle of the first floor trivilizes the raid. The fire wall alone kills off 12 enemy units and nearly defeats the orc woman.

I just did that fight(for the Nth time) and decided to set up a few barrels of smoke powder I found somewhere in act 2 before I left for Shar's little hole in the ground. Honestly, just getting a person or two up on the rafters is a game changer. Interesting and cool video though! Good to know I can skip those fights. Could be handy on an hounor mode run. Thanks!

The best way to keep Jaheira alive in ANY scenario of storming Moonrise is make her joining the party, wild-shape her into a panther and make herself invisible - and that's it. She may never even have to join any fight.

What I did was took the one powder keg from the one person in the underdark area, with the grymforge and threw it right in the center of everyone using Karlach. Killing most of the enemys instantly (Included the main person there) and made the fight so much easier to do

Another secret. You can kill Z'rell before the Moonrise fight. Simply by getting info about the necromancer's immortality, then backstab the orc.

Moonrise on tactician was so easy. She's a druid. Treat her like a Cleric/Mage. People saw her scimtars and sent her on the front lines and wondered why she died!

I’ve never had a problem with that big fight, and I’ve never played on anything below Tactician. Using Shadowheart’s highest spot to cast Aid on the ENTIRE group of party members and Harpers kinda makes it trivial

Just have Jaheira into your party. The AI will do some dumb things that get her killed. Though I can say this is my favorite act 2 battle encounter (yeah even more than myrkul)

if you go full damage I guess it's difficult but with a couple nice Crowd controll spells it becomes extremelly easy because of the narrow corridor

u can get through them doors without needing to use a spell or the dice to lock pick it. its alot longer but worked as i wasnt able to do the dice lock picking or any spells. firstly pick up the key from a dead body guard outside moonrise tower, then... to the right of the other locked door on the right, u can jump up onto a wooden board. walk to the very edge of that board then u can use misty step to justttt about teleport to another wooden board. after getting there, follow it around and u get to another door and use the key from the guard to get in. once in, to get ur other party members (that couldnt jump high enough for the first wooden board) go through the door straight ahead then go left until the the second door. this room should be the one that u wouldve had to use a spell or dice to get in to. head to the other side of the room to pull the lever which finally opens the door so u can be with ur party again and continue.

In one run I casted confusion and the orc and the people near her just attacked each other for a few turns and they are honestly the most annoying in the fight. You can also get the knolls to be allies and they help spit the agro

Pickpocket cloudkill from volo & stock up some summon scrolls while you're at it for fight against myrk You can potentially get cloudkill from one of the merregon on shar gauntlet but it's random so better to reset lvl & steal from volo And done thats all you need for act 2 even in honor mode.

I just set up explosive barrels all over the room in my second playthrough earlier in moonrise towers. 1 fire arrow later and that fight was pretty easy.

As many others have commented, you can reduce the main fight to a handful of enemies by thinning the ranks beforehand. Be sure to visit Moonrise before going through the Shadowfell. On one or more of those early trips, find and eliminate: the group down on the docks; the guards and warden in the prison; in the kitchen, have the gnolls kill their “trainer”; once you get upstairs, go to the right first, sneak through all the rooms and balcony areas, take out all the guards and also get Ketheric’s letter, then go see Z’rell; when talking with Z’rell, ask to see a demo of her power and she will kill the ogre next to her. Finally, after Shadowfell, when you return to Moonrise for the big fight, take Jaheira with you if you want to save her, don’t enter the main hall but go around to the left instead, take out the other ogre and the isolated guard in the back room, then join the main fight carefully from the rear. By the time you get to the main hall it will be just Z’rell and about two others. Much easier fight 😸

As a murderhobo, I didn’t need to sneak past any of the enemies en route to kethric. They were already dead before I went to free nightsong. Pretty sure the only NPC left in the tower was the blood trader when I made my way to kethric. Yeah, I even sent the pilgrims back out into the night.

even without the nightsong the roof fight has to happen, the regular intimidation roll does the same thing, it just makes it so you can skip the first phase down below, you dont need the letter at all

You can kill (I can not remember her name, so I'll call her the Noll handler) or turn the Nolls on her. The Nolls will no longer fight you, and you have killed the handler. So that takes away at least four that you need to fight. Especially when the Nolls do their frenzy attack and they are shooting you up to three times.

One simple way to win the fight: use a darkness spell between you and them and they have a really hard time attacking you at all. It even effects some of the archers up on the supports above. Then you can worry about smaller numbers of enemies.

I have another moonrise skip. No fights except the final 2 phase final kethric fight. You also skip all of temple of shar with no fights or dialogue. Basically the only fights you would have to do are the ones on the way to moonrise. After that you can do this skip and literally move on to the third act after maybe 2 hours of being in act 2 (depending on your exploration and how long it takes you to win that one fight). This does entirely break ShadowHearts romance though and you obviously will miss out on quest items and rewards. However you can still get the spear blessed by Dame Ailyn, without doing SH's quests.

Yea they actually fight with you. Which takes 3 ppl from their side to yours, skewing the balance. I guess the potion girl ran off...? I tried finding her but she's not around. Araj or something like that. But the knolls are about as much help as the Harper's...which is to say they may or may not miss...and if they hit, they may do 5 damage or something. In my game they all missed their first attacks. And their 2nd I don't remember them even having a second round. I just did it last night, so they weren't impactful. But it's better than having 3 knolls to kill too

@@Unknowngnostic Doesn't really matter thatn they don't do damage. They become targets for damage that isn't you or your party. That is enough, most of the time, to win fights.

The key to beating moonrise without losing any allies is to weaken the towers between killing everyone inside before you go to shar's temple that way when doing the fight for moonrise you'll only have one enemy unit before dealing with kethric

I cheesed this fight in my first playthrough lol. all i did was have my entire group sneak and i just casted fireball the entire time out of vision range and the npc's dont get aggro

I'll admit, the 1st time I blind ran through moonrise towers I got my ass handed to me. I was so pissed that after reloading my save file I bought a fuck ton of fireball scrolls. Then went straight back to moonrise towers and figured out the dumbest bug. If you stand on the stairs and throw the fireball at almost max range the AI can't target you to retaliate. So I turned moonrise towers into the next hiroshima and got to walk through scott free taking like 20 dmg total from just the crossbow dudes on the top.

I have no idea what I’m doing. Got to this fight n kept dying so me n my wife just ended up letting everyone die n we snuck around, climbed the vines on the left outside and lockpicked the door on the roof. We had just left shars temple. There was a fight in shars temple with orbs that was also too difficult so we left that room n completed the shar challenges and freed nightsong. Raphael mentioned not freeing someone or something before the mausoleum. I’m guessing he was talking about nightsong idk. I’ve also glanced at others playthroughs briefly. We still haven’t run into the green skinned lady and the other guy. Idk if they’re back in act 1 or not but I’m guessing we missed a lot of things. Some of these fights are just too difficult.

If isobel is dead when you encounter zrell you can cheese her, I don't know if this works with the harpers still alive as I'm too evil to try letting them live: As of the current patch at time of writing, you can cheese the zrell fight by just range attacking from outside of her vision range. She and none of her minions aggro from bow attacks for some reason, and there is a sweet spot where she is just in range of bows while you are outside of her vision so the cutscene wont trigger. You can just shoot her repeatedly until she's dead.

For me I find the fight with merkal is straight forwards regardless of how you go about the siege of moonrise my go to tactic is as follow 1: fire wall right over his spot as he does not move takes constant fire damage 2: [optional] Heat metal to make him drop his scythe 3: [depends on class] I ran a death knight recently so I had a horde of undead do my job for me If you skip the heat metal option then he basicly kills his own men for you just let summons, undead or Ailane do the fight for you along with the fire wall damage I like thinking outside the box for these things cleared the goblins camp with a few barrels of smoke powder in one go once just had to shoot the ogre once to kill him

Also he doesn't see in Darkness so you can cast it (or even Hunger of Hagar) on him, so he doesn't even get to use Gaze of the dead

@@laylachristina5605 yah was sort of a slap to the face lol. but if you like that the room where you would normaly fight balthazar if you where captured in the colony use fire wall right at the door and path into that room and watch as the undead run in to kill them selves in the fire you can just pick off the flying fiends that manage to get past it

I couldn’t let harpers die. So I cleared the tower before attack started. Also when you go into tower with Jaheera don’t forget that there are some harpers in the prison dungeon. And they are in big trouble. Saving them was quite difficult too.

Nice! Thank you for this information. Maybe now I stand a chance for an Honor Mode run. I'll probably just have Gale Kamikaze the Absolute and end the game in Act 2. I don't really wanna play the entire game on Honor mode but I do want those golden dice. Hmmm. An honor mode run still counts if you chose the ending where Gale blows up the absolute at the end of Act 2?

I find the best way to keep Jaheira alive is to kill everyone in Moonrise Tower earlier in the act before you do the official assault on Moonrise Tower.

erm. regarding the fight in the main hall. IMO its one of the easiest fights in the game if youve done that fight once already. starting second playtrhough. Here is what you do. Stack ever boom barrel in your camp up until you reach moonrise. place 6 powder barrels in the middle andspread some wine and oily ones for good measure on the outer parts of the main hall. Then you just contin ue your playtrhough. at the point of invading moonrise at the end. use firebolt. Place Final Fantasy victory music here. The Kethric part can remain the same.

Everything's easier on a second play-through, though. 😉 I'm here on my first play-through (well, 5th, as the first 4 times I was learning game mechanics and never made it to the goblin camp, but 1st getting to 5th level) and Jahiera died both times I did the fight. The second time I saw she was ko'd and was like "Okay, maybe I can save her since no one is attacking Shadowheart." No, as soon as I decided to move Shadowheart over to cast some healing, the NPCs ganged up on her _except the one guy who decided to butcher Jaheira._ I'm just like "F-k, it; she's staying dead. She was rude to me anyway."

I never had a trouble on this fight. On my first playthrough I actually killed them without the harpers. It wasn't easy but it wasn't that hard either. Grymforge was the hardest part of the game to me because I didn't figure out about the hammer, so I had to kill him the hard way.

You can just kill the Orc in her office and let her kill the orger. So long the foyer does not see you kill any of the gards, they will not become hostile. So, you can close all the doors to the main hall and kill everyone there. A nice exploit is to use sword shrike to push gaurds out side and kill them. Just dont kill the merchaints nor the zent gaurds. Also kill all the zombies where Zerell interagates you. You can allso use fly to get on top of the tower prior triggering Kethric's cutscene and kill all the zombies and the necromancer. Don't forget the imps. This will only leave you with the bugbare and will help you with getting to level 10 for kethric. Also save all the long rest buffs for fighting kethric or shar. I would save the monostary buff for this fight aswell. Just fast travel grab it then go to shar then go to kethric. Defentaly have will get the charasima buff.

You can also have the gnolls in the kitchen kill their master, so they don't turn up. Fights very easy if you go on a murder spree like a good bhaalspawn should.

Conversely! You can just go there before the Gauntlet, piss off Z'rell - get her aggroed, whoop her ass, then take out the majority of other people who aggro (All the essential NPC's like the blood trader, etc, won't turn hostile so long as you take out the floating eyes quickly enough) and then just return later and not have to worry about this fight, lol. This is how I ended up doing it on my first Honour mode run. Wasn't intending on it either, lol. Edit: Also, Fog Cloud trivialized the fight with the Avatar of Myrkul. He can't move so take advantage of that.

In my second playthrough (I was a Dark Urge Oathbreaker Paladin of level 14, using the mod to reach level 20 with multiclassing and half the xp required per level) and was able to use Control Undead on the Apostle of Myrkul, making the avatar of the God of Undeath my ally fighting for me against his minions. Unfortunately this did not result in him giving me Kethric's Netherstone or Reaper's Embrace. After everyone else died I tried attacking the Apostle and killed him without him ever fighting back, but he did not revert to Kethric. I looted other things Kethric should carry from him but there was no netherstone, no Dream Visitor cut scene, and no way to proceed to Act 3 without save scumming.

And now, at level 20, I have achieved my real goal in making the Oathbreaker build. I just tamed Ansur, the heart of the gate, the waiting storm, the great undead bronze dragon himself. My teammates finished off the Water Myrmidons and brought Ansur's HP down from 400 to 389 before I used Control Undead on him. It said I had a 40% chance of success. The saving throw was 17, which is exactly what he rolled, but Gale (who in this playthrough is equal parts Wizard and Wild Magic Sorcerer) used his Tides of Chaos ability to make him my pet dracolich. The emperor and Wyll went on to talk about him as if we'd just slain him instead, despite him standing right behind them as they talked. Without killing Ansur I was not able to loot the Balduran's Giantslayer, but I still got the Helm of Balduran. Unlike the Apostle of Myrkul, Ansur can move and does follow me around within the Dragon Sanctum and part of the wyrmway, but he is too big to fit through the gate to other parts of the city and he won't fast travel.

There is a cheesy/xploit way to 1-shot Myrkul... Get the 'Twist of Fate' and then use the current vendor exploit to make a ton of gold. Go invis and get near kethric before any dialog happens. Plant gold in kethrics pockets (iirc 50k on balanced). The gold WILL be in "myrkul's" pockets since Kethric turns into the avatar. And then with good initiative (Alert feat+hi dex) you can Misty step and/or run right to myrkul and with one good attack roll with 'blood money' from Twist of Fate* you can one-shot myrkul. I've done this on a few runs lately. *FYI there is easy way to get twist of fate with some good persuasion checks.. or you can use a bard or someone with psychic dmg to take out the skulls around goldie to reduce her HP down to almost nothing and leave her defenseless.

The fight isn't that difficult and you can use things like Sanctuary or Shield of Faith to keep Jaheira alive. Or have her in your party. The fight offers a lot of XP, items and a parasite. Skipping the fight means you lose out a lot. This isn't worth it.

I got past the end of the act... But at what cost.. (stumbled apon jahiras corpse, she didn't even make it past the top of the first half of stairs Can't revive unless they were brought into the party)

I played this battle twice last night (first time getting here) and she died both times. I wasn't going to go through the battle three times to try and save her. Wish this video had popped up before instead of after. 😆

havent beat the game yet, only at the start of act 3, but is moonrise really 'one of the hardest'? because if so im kinda sad.. I walked through with zero stress

It really isn't. This fight was quite easy for me as well. There are a few fights in Act 3 that are much harder than Moonrise basement. I honestly think the thorms are technically harder than Apostle of Myrkul in act 2 already. Not going to spoil but 2 major bosses of act 3 are quite hard and you have some fights that you better not underestimate the difficulty of.

I didnt even give kethric or the apostle a chance to take a turn on my first attempt. admitedly, I did have the forknowledge I needed to free the nightsong, but even so. my first char freed her, and my second char 1turn dropped kethric.. and my third 1 turn dropped the avatar. I had built the fight up so much in my head, I may have been over tuned, but it was still.. shocking.

Oh, it was infuriating to keep Jaehira alive, she would always storm right in while I had to wait every single one of the npcs to make their actions for me to do something, and couldn't just fire ball the whole thing or else would burn her to death.

In my blind run as a Thief/Gloomstalker dual hand crossbow build I solo'd Moonrise, it CAN be tough, but if you play it smart it's not at all that difficult.

@@DellikkilleD yeah you can easily break the game if you put enough efforts into your builds. I think most of the hard fights in act are more tedious than difficult sometimes especially around the "end" of the game. But there are a lot of good challenges also that require you to plan efficiently on the spot if you wish to get the best outcome. for certain fights with Side objectives.

Or, you can bypass this fight by killing EVERYONE at moonrise tower; I left zero people alive, THEN got the town to march on Moonrise. Result was they just walk around "looting the fallen" lol

Nice to know additional ways but heck no, I aint skipping no fight. No fight, no loot. Not to mention that there are some people who simply need to have their backsides kicked. But like I said, more information is always good.

I think this fight was very easy even on tactician. I never done the stealth killing before except in my new 4th gameplay all ppl but i highly recommend if you get hard time doing and killing all the worshippers. I even killed the skeletons at first ketheric facing it was so funny ketheric was standing all alone 😭😆😆😆

Eh you gonna lose a lot of xp. I sneak around, cast shadow as a barrier or silence on guards and get to work starting from the top of the tower and make your way down. They can't call for help when they're in the Silence bubble or cant see what's happening behind the Darkness cloud. You get all the xp and loot and the letter plus you don't lose Jaheira or any Harper. I also find it easier to systematically eliminate the guards by starting at the prison area.. that way you can free the prisoners after you unalive the warden as you make your way up to the two guards by the exit door. You should take out ALL the guards in the prison if you want all of the prisoners to make it out. When I confront Ketheric he doesnt have anybody with him except for his summons. Even his undead minions are usually gone... either shoved off the tower to their doom or sneak attacked with an arrow. 😂

I honestly feel bad for Ketheric... I know he is one of the bad guys but the thing made him evil was his love for his family unlike others, they were more like "hahaha I'm a bad guy"

My method of "skipping" the Moonrise fight is to take down all of Moonrise piecemeal before I head into the Shadowfell. =P That way you don't miss any XP and Jaheira stays safe and sound. Moonrise isn't all too tough if they aren't grouped together, hostile and waiting for you. =P

Well when it was time for that battle it was easy for me as there was no one still alive in that tower except Ketheric on the roof. As it was obvious that we had to fight all those people sooner or later, i just killed them one by one or by little group long before going to fetch Nightsong. Once Zrell gives you the mission to find Baltazar, you have all you need and you can kill everybody. Why avoid fighting, well it can be a challenge but you get no loot you get no XP and then later if you have to fight you will be so weak that it will be extremely hard. And even if you have to face all those ennemies in the tower, in fact if you have got XP and loot, you have the level and stuff to make that fight easy. I send a snow storm on them and i have fun looking at them fall and loosing their turn, then i add some water to make them wet and finally we unleash a serie of electric zaps on them and they are all crispy and smoking hot. That was very quick and funny and my party almost got no damage and let Jahira outside, she is a total noob and she will mostly die because she is still not leveled up. Later fully in the party she can be of some use but for now send her to a home for the elderly to drink some tea with some cake untill it's over.

I think it makes it a little easier if you severe the connection between the woman in the kitchen and the knolls. They kill her and are free and are not there when the fight happens. Killing the guards in the prison also I think makes it easier. I often use ice storm on zrel and the group in the middle because it makes an ice surface and prevents them from getting close to you without them falling on their ass. It makes a big enough area of ice that the ones that come in after to slip on it as well. They do like to cast darkness allot. Which is a huge pain in the ass as you can't attack with ranged weapons from it.

My party got hammered by the hadar fog in the entranceway, and the harpers kept body blocking me. It wasn't hard so much as it was morally difficult, because I wanted to fireball them but couldn't.
