The 2020 Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 11-26 January. World Champion Magnus Carlsen again heads the field, which includes Top 10 stars Caruana, Giri and So as well as 5-time World Champion Anand. A lot of the focus will be on young stars - Duda, Artemiev, Xiong and above all 16-year-old Alireza Firouzja, who makes his super-tournament debut. As well as the traditional venue in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, one round will be played in the PSV football stadium in Eindhoven (16 January).
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. If there is a tie for first place the top two after tiebreaks then play a 2-game blitz (5+3) playoff and, if still tied, an Armageddon game. The monetary prizes will be shared evenly. To me it seemed like Carlsen was being a bit lazy. If you only use half your time, surely you could come up with slightly better moves using all of it.
@adcyuumi
@adcyuumi 4 жыл бұрын
@@psychohist Your opponent is allowed to think while your clock is running. When you see an opponent is using a lot of time from their clock, it is almost always best to play good moves quickly to coerce a mistake. Then, after seeing them make a mistake, you can if you wish stop playing fast and have a think on your own time to win the game. Or you can keep playing fast, making your opponent play a losing position with almost no time on their clock. Both tactics work. The one thing you should never do is waste your own clock time, giving up that advantage. Spending clock time on a turn is saying "I am 99% sure the move I have found isn't the best one here". If you aren't sure there is a better move, you are just being indecisive.
@psychohist
@psychohist 4 жыл бұрын
@@adcyuumi The person who is using less time is more likely to make the first mistake than the person who is using more time, as indeed we see in this game where Carlsen basically blunders away a pawn with ...d5. Classical time control is not like rapid or blitz; in classical, it's generally worth spending a few moments to double check your moves.

Kaja Skov With respect to other European languages, the word ’condition’ is a false friend in English, because many languages use ’condition’ as a word for stamina or endurance whereas condition in English means disease/material state of objects/ prerequisite etc, just so you know.✌️

@vitalviral8865

Capturing the knight would allow white to play rook to b8 which will lead to a rook trades with white pawn becoming queen. You cannot capture the pawn with black rook when the white rook is at b8 since the black rook is defending a check.

15:38 if pawn takes knight than rook to b8 wins. If rook takes rook than the pawn queens, and if knight takes pawn rook takes rook with check and forks the knight. Best would be bringing the king closer to the pawn and end up down the exchange for the pawn

it would have been a terrible mistake, Anand not only attacked the rook but also opened his rook line, so if magnus captured the knight then Anand would have place his rook just beside of magnus rook, on b8, and he would develop a queen and magnus would lost his rook.
