In this episode, I visit a dear friend @vaikoon in Bangkok. He started out as a rare plant collector but quickly and efficiently propagated his collection into a huge nursery. We tour his collection, talk about care tips, and share his visions for scaling up production and hybridizing! I lost audio at some point unfortunately, but the show must go on!

I am visiting Bangkok in September and being a plant freak that I am I typed "nursery in Bangkok" n it took me here n I am soooooo gonna go see this guy n hopefully get some plants that I can actually afford. I know these plants are expensive AF

Haha yes. There are actually lots of affordable options. Be sure to spend a day in Chatuchak on a tuesday or wednesday.

Unfortunately Vietnam is completely unexplored territory for me. I just know there are tons of Vietnamese live sellers in Thailand! Perhaps this is sign that there arent many nurseries in Vietnam with original products.

Hello onlyplants Thank you for making videos of lots of beautiful plant collectors. I'm a big fan of monsters and I love to collect monstera, the video base on vaikoon was best for me. I have watched several times this video. Will you please make his video in future also on more focusing on the monstera family? I suggest you make some episode base on specific families like monstera, philodendron, and other Vaikoon's different kinds of mint and albo were best, can you make more videos on his Monstera, please. What an incredible collection! His plants are soo healthy and beautiful! Thank you for sharing. One thing, though. As you may already know, there is no Monstera borsigiana species, only Monstera deliciosa. Some people refer to the one with smaller leaves as "small form"; others refer to it as "early splitting" Monstera deliciosa. Anyhow, thank you for another incredible video! It was so enjoyable to watch.

I'm amazed that the variegated are in the sun?? I get there's a shade cloth, but still the sun is hitting them? I thought they'd burn and I fly into action if I have the blinds open on a cloudy day and the sun comes out. I don't open the blinds until the sun is higher in the sky, bc my variegated are right next to the window. Please give me your thoughts.

The shade cloth actually filters out all direct sunlight. Some nurseries use up to 80% filter. (Only allowing 20% of light to pass through).

But how does he manage pests?? He didn't say. Is it beneficials? And why does he shake his plants?

He said he doesnt manage the pests… they just dont exist haha. He does not release beneficials, but I have a feeling there must be a sizeable predator population naturally thats taking care of the pests. His land away from the city, with lots of greeneries around. That could explain it. Theres also a possibility of them being manually removed by the care taker. Believe it or not, mealy bugs and spidermites can be knocked off by pressured water or wiped off.

@@onlyplants Yeah, I heard that, but just didn't believe him ;) But... if they controlled what came in and being secluded like you said - wow, that would be awesome. Maybe that's why he shakes his plants a lot, he even mentioned that, but I've never seen anyone do that. Very interesting!
