FYI folks around the world watching this video of Sean’s unboxing. Last week I ordered a Calathea rufibarba. US $18.00. . Sean paid US$ 1!!!!! I checked just now on Etsy and the Syngonium Mojito is US$ 55.00 UP😬 Is anybody besides me envious of Sean’s location and access to beautiful plants at a reasonable price? Great video Sean. It gives us a window to another part of the world for plants.

Haha thank you Harry. Actually these plants were bought online and in quite bad shape. If we were to walk into a good nursery to pick up a healthy/bushy pot, it would cost 5-10 times the price I paid for them. But I love rescuing plants and getting a good deal for them 😌

The Syngonium Mojito is going for AU$64 to AU$280 in Australia! Very pretty plant, but I'll need to move to Indonesia to get one I think.

@@dizzylizzy7582 It think that , like every other thing in the world, once social media latches onto it and makes it the “IT Thing”, we ordinary folks are priced out of the market. I shudder to think how many pricey plants are bought , raved about to increase social status and once the “oohs and ahs “ die down those lovey plants are doomed to be crispy critters and the purchasers are on to the next fad. I’m not criticizing everyone who owns these pricey plants but if history serves us well we know that lots of things languish once the novelty wears off. I wish Sean had explained that the purpose of his video was to buy plants in distress and rehab them. I don’t think the point was made strongly enough in his video. Yes, we got to see diseased plants that would require a lot of care and as he states, it’s something he likes to do. But the funny thing is that around the world we don’t really find an opportunity to buy these plants at such unbelievably cheap prices. I would hold off on moving to Indonesia for your Syngonium Mojito for a bit. Like my country, a super power and a super spreader, it might be a better time to stay at home and take care of your collection which brings you such joy. At least that’s what I plan to do! Keep safe and be happy.

Both of the syngonoium that you unboxed stole the show for me😻. Hostas are a common landscape plant in Northern North America. They come in so many different varieties! I couldn't grow them when I lived in San Diego. I'm pretty sure they need a cool winter rest. The lavender is something that I miss growing in San Diego. It likes Mediterranean weather and well-draining soil. I would definitely Google on your African violet care in your climate. I envy the yard that you showed at the end of the show!

African violets can be propagated from a leaf. I use the AVSA (African violet society of america) website for a lot of my growing info. I did find in my personal growing of the plant that it preferred medium light for sure! She lived alright in high light, but when i moved her to medium she burst with new growth, her leaves looked healthier, and she put out 21 new blooms (her previous blooming was only 3 flowers! It was a massive difference). They're some of my faves ☺ theres so many awesome varieties, you could have a 100+ collection of just them and have all of them look very different

Yes, African violet leaf can be propagated If it is not too dried up. Cut stem at an slant/angle then stick it in soil or water. Soil is best. It usually takes a couple of months or more to see babies. Before you stick the stem in the soil make sure it’s dried for about 10 minutes. You may want to add some growth hormone but I usually don’t. Add a little water and stick it in a Ziploc bag to retain its moisture and humidity.

That rock wall behind you would make an amazing wall garden. You wouldn’t even need canvas bags or anything, just put some soil in the crevasses and it would be good to go. African violets are really easy to propagate. Easy way is to let them root in water and put them in well draining soil. Don't keep too long stem on the leaf or plant it just a little under surface, small violets will start growing where roots are ;)

Polka dot plants, Hypoestes Phyllostachya. It loves to have dappled direct sunlight, but not too much, cause it can make their pattern on the leaf faded. Its roots are thin but breed quickly. so don't let it completely dry between watering. It's water loving plant. It's very common in US and dirt chip, but if you see its pen drawing like patterns on the leaf, you definitely falling in love with it

Hi Sean, I grew African Violets for years. Bottom watering for them is a must! Aside from the hairy leaves, if water gets in the crown, it can rot. They actually sell African Violet pots that are a pot within a pot. And yes, they propagate very easily with leaf cuttings. Stick the leaf in moist soil ( I always used rooting hormone too ) and you get little babies coming up! You got a pretty good haul there. Those red cordylines are all over the place in yards here in Florida, they can get pretty big and bright! Here they call them Thai or Ti plants.

My number one rule that I learned quickly is always use PayPal. At least it gives you some recourse when you don’t receive any plant at all and the seller does a disappearing act. There are many good sellers out there but , I can’t wait for the day when I can go to a greenhouse and look at and pick my own plants. Live and learn. ❤️✌🏻🍃🌱🌿

Your mystery plant at 33:05 is Pilea involucrata. Really enjoyed watching you unbox and pot up so many small size plants. That must have been a lot of fun to do! The price difference for purchase in the US is dramatically crazy. I'm a new subscriber and have really been enjoying your videos

Sorry, it's Pilea cadieri 🙄. Upon reading your reply, I noticed my mistake. Pilea involucrata is the one that look like 'moon craters' lol and practically tells in the name '"involucrata', crater. . Shouldn't have mixed those up 🤷‍♀️

hostas are an indestructible landscaping olant here in minnesota usa zone 4. they are pretty expensive here because you only have to buy once, divide and spread or share every few years, they come in literally a hundred or more varieties. they do fry in full sun even this far north. forgive my motor mouth..a combo of social isolation, election anxiety, and that i actually know soething that might be helpful, haha!

If you stick the African violet leaf with petiole in water, it will grow roots then a baby plant. Do not get the leaves wet though. They like bottom watering.

Very nice video ! Plant envy for the mojito syngonium ! :) To prevent Hipoestes to grow leggy, let them get a bit drier and put them in well draining soil, I used cactus mix, but general potting mix with added perlite should work fine. (Also, i'm in the north, Bruxelles) so different growing conditions :)) Have you or anyone else here tips for Syngonium leaves not or only half unfurling ? They did super good all summer, only thing that changed is they no longer get an hour of direct evening sun because of the change of season. I'm also thinking about lack of calcium ? As in tomatoflowers rotting instead of transforming into fruit. All tips welcome !
@onlyplants
@onlyplants 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips on the hipoestes! Syngoniums dont usually need a lot of light so I have a feeling it is nutrient deficiency. But may also be possible for pests to cause stunted growth. Mealy bugs can live in the soil, and some species of syngoniums are spider mites magnets!
@JanRitaful
@JanRitaful 3 жыл бұрын
@@onlyplants You were right, unfortunately ! I found out yesterday that there was an early stages outbreak where leaves connect to petioles on my big bird of paradise, which confirmed the well camouflaged beginning outbreak in the syngoniums, which is pretty much invisible, but it was too strange that all 6 of them started to develop the same leaf unfurling problem at the same time. Plant dad will be cooking up some much needed neem oil solution and will be cursing the living room plants that have to be treated... al 43 of them, as prevention. Or maybe i'll run away and not come back. :) Tnx for the reply and keep up the nice video's

They can take a huge variety of conditions... you just have to water according to your environment. Water them only when leaves are droopy. Or I actually recommend moisture meter, and water only when its bone dry 😌

Hello Sean, the plant at 33:06 is a Pilea Involucrata "Friendship Plant". I purchased a few small plants from the rehab section of a big box store. Found out it was infested heavily with soil pests. I tried to save it, but things didn't work out that well.
