I put leftover iron bars, leftover from a baby cake over top of my aquariums and set the pots on top Antherium love it there they get a gentle humidity. I do not fix them in anyway so that roots go in the water. Just set the pot on top of the bars.

Thanks for the video Sean! As someone who lives in Texas and has low indoor humidity, I'm not sure I can ever get the more difficult anthuriums, but I'm hoping to get a clarinervium and/or a pedatoradiatum for my first anthuriums! They've recently started hitting the independent plant nurseries here so they're becoming more common.

@onlyplants
@onlyplants Ай бұрын
I only cut sick or damaged leaves if more than 50% of the surface is damaged. The plant invest so much energy to put out this leaf, its photosynthesis output is still helping the plant along even with minor damage/illness. The key is to stop the illness spreading.

Do anthuriums usually struggle if humidity falls below 60% during times of the day? My draconopterum really struggled during shipment and lost its leaves. Not sure if its adaptability issue or shipping stress. Would love to see videos of how to adapt plants or care for plants after shipping :)

So Anthurium like you said don't require high humidity for most species in cultivation (debile and splendidum are some of the exceptions). So as long as you have at least 50% humidity you will have little to no issue with them... however I have seen enough ppl on social media and privately that grow Anthurium in 30% humidity with great success... the important thing is to know your environment and to never let the Substrat become bone dry... so I disagree a bit with that advice, bc while some mexican species like chiapasense, Leuconeurum or clarinervium can handle a wet/ dry cycle, most velvet leaf Anthurium will show their discontent with you if the substrate gets anywhere close to bone dry... Glossy leaf Anthurium can also handle a drying out period, but they also do not appreciate having their substrate bone dry.... considering you have to many plants to manage on your own, I'd suggest you plant them in large pots with orchid substrate, so you can overwater to your heart's content 😊 And for anyone trying to keep Anthurium in super high humidity - Airflow is your best friend... a good fan will be the most important thing in a high humidity environment to prevent any fungal/ bacterial infections... And since Anthurium produce a lot of roots fast, if you are someone who wants big leaves fast, give your Anthurium a pot 2 to 3 sizes larger than you usually would and just be more mindful of your watering... Anthurium grow larger much faster if you aren't constantly repotting and disturbing it's roots 😊 Sean, I don't know if you meant to say "Neam Oil is good for the skin" but guys, be careful, bc neam oil can irritate the skin and cause an allergic reaction so always handle chemicals (doesn't matter if it's natural or not) with the oroper safety gear 😅 Thank you for showing us all of your beautiful plants!!
@onlyplants
@onlyplants Ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing this. And yes should clarify that neem oil is safe when diluted properly and not in its full concentration, just like essential oils 😀 but they are used in soaps and shampoos for tons of benefits
@onlyplants
@onlyplants Ай бұрын
And yes to your point, actually watering depends on humidity etc too. In low or critically low humidity environments I would not consider letting the media go bone dry. And the species require slightly different requirements as they can be diverse
