Just woke up and flipping through old videos and somehow missed this one when it first came out. The enthusiasm of your stunt double was priceless. I'm guessing you did all the talking when you guys were growing up too. Thanks for sharing this.

I was in the market for the rat 7. After watching your vid , I ordered 2 upgrades from TKC . One for me and one for my son. They should be winging their way to Townsville , Australia in the next day or so. Look'in forward to going bush with the rat.Cheers

I like that they are going this way with the Ontario stuff. It may convince me to grab a custom rat3 when it comes out. I wish they would do custom sheaths for the Becker line. They already have the g10 scales for them.

I always thought that sooner or later, this video regarding the RAT7 from TKC knife builder was bound to be made. You holding that upgraded knife and presenting it now makes me want to overhaul mine as well. I actually have those scales and sheath in my wishlist already. Hahahaha! Nice video and thanks for sharing! Mabuhay!

Lost my rat 7 in a swamp a week ago because it fell out of this sheath on the first morning. I was wearing it handle down. I could never get the lock to close no matter how hard I tried, but It fit tight enough, or so I thought. Got back to the boat and it was gone:( I won't be using TKC again. ((EDIT)) The owner contacted me directly after I emailed them. They made it right! Outstanding company.

Hey gideonstactical, thanks for all your work and content. Question, my brother already has a little skinning knife and a smaller weird one (I think for gutting fish). He goes hunting a lot and I'm not sure whether to get him a smaller general knife, like a mora bushcraft or a condor bushlore, or a bigger chopper-type knife (like a BK-9 or a Condor Hudson Bay). Any advice? Thanks.

Lol I was able to get a set of the Esee 6 scales on my Rat 7 a couple years back but they never fit right and I hated the sheath so it ended up only getting used on moto camp outs. Now I've pulled it out of the bike gear and think it's getting a makeover! Things a work horse!

Ha! In before the review. No, seriously. I got my Rat-7 with Brown & Black scales, black TKC kydex sheath and leather backing with integrated leather 3/8-inch diameter firesteel holder last week. Saw it on the site, had to have it! All because of your ESEE 6 custom TKC review. Honestly, yeah, I like it better than my ESEE 6 set-up. That one is great, but the RAT-7 set-up is even better. And yeah, it's kinda nice having an even coating all over the blade without portions of it removed to form the logo and other printing. Honestly, that's one lesson I wish ESEE would learn from Ontario. If someone isn't handy, they're going to need to go to a hardware store or ask a handy friend of theirs' for help in drilling the two holes needed on the leather backing sold through TKC for the custom TKC kydex sheath. I believe it's a 1/4" bit that's needed for the job. Then use the supplied screws, washers, and grommets to attach the backing to the sheath. You end up with three attachment points. But I found a perfectly round hole peeking at me through both the backing and the kydex sheath on top. So I attached another screw, washer, and grommet to that portion of the sheath. Now I have 4 secure attachments. Not sure, but the leather backing without the sewn-in firesteel holder should be able to accommodate yet another (5th) hole as well. So drilling 3 holes instead of just 2 for an even more secure attachment should be possible with the RAT-7 set-up.

If you were to choose between the Rat 7 with TKC scales or RD7 with TKC scales which would go with? One is 3/16" 1095 and one is 1/4" 5160. I have the RD7 with TKC scales but I've never owned a RAT 7 or ESEE 6. Just curious.

Another great video and with your evil twin. LOL He looked like I feel, tired like he just woke up like I did. thx a lot for doing my morning coffee with me. I'd still pick the esee over the ontario. I bought a Manix 2 this week and a Tenacious and a byrd bryd and a SR2 baton light which I really like but the special batteries are twenty a piece, which no one said in any of the reviews. :( :)

For someone who's just getting into this and not looking for anything top of the line what do you think would be better? One of the knives you showed here or the gerber strongarm?
@gideonstactical
@gideonstactical 7 жыл бұрын
OfficialBeast225 Great question, the strong arm is a good knife for the price with lots of good features but it would not compete with the Esee six or rat seven in the woods and a survival situation these knives are larger and longer and heavier give you more capability. The strong arm would be a good companion knife or soldier knife.

gideonstactical I mainly just need something to take shooting with me but I want to get into the survival and bushcraft side of things more.
@Airik1111bibles
@Airik1111bibles 7 жыл бұрын
OfficialBeast225 Buy a Strongarm its perfect for that, I also would recommend buying either a cheaper Mora knife to go with it for carving scandi grinds are awesome. If you want a tough knife that is a bushcraft blade right now the Mora Garberg is only $57 on Amazon with their leather sheath, I just bought one and its a great deal. I'm a huge fan of the Gerber Prodigy cause of the serrations but they now have them at Walmart in straight edge, it to is an awesome utility knife BUT the Strongarm is IMO the better of the two. I know its been a month since this comment so you probably made your choice already LOL. I started a year or so ago with this bushcraft thing and learned that medium sized blades are the best for me, all the big blades are very hard to start off with and mainly made to chop and baton with. Hope this helps ya.

I think Ontario should have 2 versions of their knives, one with their usual furniture, and then an upgraded version. For the money, I think the Esee 6 is a better deal. HOWEVER, if someone already has a RAT7, it is better to upgrade the handle than buy another knife IMO, FWIW.
