The Onvis Kameleon Lightstrip is the most fun I've had with a lightstrip in a long time. It has a ton of cool features like paint mode, music mode, cool effects and transitions... and the best part... it all works in Homekit! Today we'll install this in my daughters room and do a full walkthrough and review of all the features this lightstrip has to offer.

Love the video and glad to see Maci is enjoying all of the cool party modes with this light strip. I am intrigued by the possible adaptive lighting and the security mode scenes that this light strip seems to offer. I will do a bit more research on this one and see if it will fit my needs. I am also glad to see that you were able to get Eve as a sponsor. Congrats.

You never fail with brighten my Monday morning with your new videos. I’m in the process of redecorating the stairs and hall, was dead set on getting Philips Hue light strip for the bannister, but not anymore. 100% Onvis now, will be trying to set up a kids bed routine where the light will be guiding them upstairs haha. So thank you for the light strip, iPad wall mount and automatic blinds.

@@ShaneCreates quick question regarding the LED strip length. Do you tend to go for perfect fit or smaller? My bannister is 3m, and I’m debating 2m or the 5m and cutting it to 3m.

Hey Shane. As always, thanks for the nice review. Do you think the Onvis Kameleon attached behind a TV in music mode could be an alternative to Phillips Hue Sync Box?
@ShaneCreates
@ShaneCreates 2 жыл бұрын
Not really because the Phillips Hue Sync Box uses HDMI input to mirror the colors that are on the screen, not the audio. I think a lightstrip in music mode behind a tv would probably be extremely distracting.

Which one between Vocolinc and Onvis for under cabinet lighting? Looks like the Onvis you can shut off segments of lighting due to not being cuttable, not sure Vocolinc LS3 can do that.

Hi Shane! Do you know of a video to program one of these to simulate street lights passing by in a vehicle? Basically a yellow light that's rolling but instead of white, it's off. Hey Shane, thanks for the video. I’m actually having some problems using my new Sengled lights with hub in conjunction with my Lutron Caseta dimmer switches. Any advice on how to set them up together to run smoothly? In my bedroom double light sconce, I’ve grouped the bulbs together but the start flashing every time I try to change the color. It has something to do with the current flowing to them through the switch. Have you had this happen?

Hey Mike. Generally speaking, smart bulbs and smart switches don't play well together. I usually recommend using one or the other for each light fixture.

@corywithaynoe
@corywithaynoe 2 жыл бұрын
@@ShaneCreates I was…until I saw this video. 😂 Seeing all the potential and crazy features the Onvis has made me want it even more now. But honestly, I got the Meross one, because it was 32 ft long which covered my entire bar all around, and it was half the price on Prime Day. 😁 But I can see WHY the Onvis is more expensive; it has SOOO many features!!! The one thing I’m not happy about with the Meross is the limitation on color-changing - you only have flash and breath mode. The breath mode is like fade off/fade on to new color, which is terrible; it should gradually change from one color to the next. Other than that, it is ok.

How does this compare to the VOCOlinc strips you've recommended in the past?
@ShaneCreates
@ShaneCreates 2 жыл бұрын
Quite similar. They both connect via wifi and they both offer effects that can be used in HomeKit scenes. The major difference is that the Onvis lightstrip has the individual addressable LEDs meaning it can have multiple colors across it at the same time, whereas the vocolinc lightstrip can only have one color at a time. So there are more options for effects and customizations with the Onvis for that reason.

Most modern routers come with dual bands: a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band.
@howardyermish
@howardyermish 2 жыл бұрын
I know that my Eero mesh router has a "troubleshooting" mode that temporarily disables the 5GHz band, which is often all you need to get the device setup via 2.4GHz band. Once the device is setup, then it will pick the 2.4GHz band (because that's all it can) and your network will run as usual. Hope that helps!

@@ShaneCreates exactly but for some reason I can’t get mine to change and split. Both say enabled when I go to my IP address site but they won’t seem to split.
@ShaneCreates
@ShaneCreates 2 жыл бұрын
@@nickpanzeca7640 most modern mesh routers, for example, will use a single SSID for both WiFi bands and the router is “smart” enough to select the correct band for devices to connect. Sometimes I hear people have issues with that. Some routers give you the option to split them to separate networks completely or disable the 5 GHz band temporarily.
@Polkster13
@Polkster13 2 жыл бұрын
Nick - you might see if you can rename the 5 GHz network on your router. Mine allows me to do this with a checkbox and then it appends a " 5 GHz" label to my network name (SSID) for the 5 GHz band and uses the original name for the 2.4 GHz band. I then have my iPhone attached to the 2.4 GHz band when I am adding any devices to HomeKit as most of the device setup routines will use the settings from the phone (it's currently assigned SSID and Password) to attach the device to your WIFI LAN.

These Onvis light strips have turned out to be the least reliable light strips I've had. I have four sets of these in two separate homes. All four of these have disconnected from wifi multiple times in the last year or so. Whenever this happens it requires removal from the Onvis App, factory defaulting, adding back into the Onvis app and then Apple Home. Then I have to set up the lights all over again. I'm done with these. All four have disconnected for the last time. It took a couple of weeks but the last two disconnected at the same time the other night making all four sets inoperative. I won't be adding them back in.
