Paint the interiors of the cars. It will be a more involved job, but it will be worthwhile. You will also be able to fit passengers and staff. Looking forward to the video of you getting the model running again, whenever you get a chance. Wishing your good lady a speedy recovery from her fall.

Always interested in your landscaping activities Bill as I'm in the middle of my own so tips and ideas are very helpful. Such a shame BR never pursued the APT to its conclusion as a few years later the problems would have been solved. Best wishes for your wife's good recovery.

Alright Bill been away for a couple of weeks catching up on videos your layout coming on brilliantly it’s going to be an amazing one

Firstly, best wishes to your wife Bill. As someone of a similar age to yourself I'm increasingly aware of the importance of avoiding injuries, good health, and indeed a decent health sevice. I've seen far too much of care and health care services recently for those close to me, and indeed myself. Re the APT, I think it will look much better if you leave the windows clear and paint the interior. I still recall the prototype APT-E and (earlier) the prototype HST back in the 1970s.

I wish your wife a speedy recovery Bill. Glad you liked the wee sign..although your your shindigs at The Gnomes Legs may have to take a back seat whilst you look after the missus. A new name plaque may be in order……The Frying Scotsman.

Hope your wife is better soon, I know how she feels, I broke my arm in a similar place, cycling to the Greenock model railway show of all places, I was on the cycle route just after port Glasgow when my back wheel hit some moss and down I went. I'm still feeling it now. I still managed to see the show, however 😅. You're right about the Paisley show. It wasn't so good this year. 7:18 better last year. And I had a look at that APT too.😂 Ended up buying 3 Bachmann Scotrail coaches. Sorry I missed you at Paisley, I would have said hello.

I'd paint the interior a dark blue and then paint any tabletops a light tan to get a suggestion of detail. Maybe add some figures while you're at it. Cheap ones from China since no one is going to get a good look at them.

For the bogies and the seats in the APT, if the paint used is acrylic based (you can scrape it off easily with finger nail), a good method of removing it is Dettol. This has been used as a paint remover in wargaming miniatures for as long as I can remember. Soak the item in neat Dettol overnight and then rinse off and use an old toothbrush to get into all the detail and clear it out.

Best wishes to the Missus . Sorry missed you at Paisley . Bad news is that the interior of the APT was Tartan ! I’d paint the interior rather than blacking out the windows . A deep red or blue should do it .

Hi Bill. Please pass on my best wishes to your good lady wife. We all must remember that there are some things even more important than model railways. I'm very much a fan of adding small details such as animals etc. They can help bring a layout to life. Love the Gnomes Legs sign: class.

You could lightly tint the windows a smoke color so you can still make out some detail, but not enough to see how toyish it really is. Tamiya does have a smoke color in acrylic that would work though several passes will have to be used. Prayers to your wife for a speedy recovery.

Hi Bill sorry to hear about your wifes accident . My wife fell down some steps in Cyprus 3hrs after arriving. Insurance didn't want to know about paying four the private hospital where she was taken to €800 . Hey ho treatment was good food crap .. Anyway the important thing is in about 6weeks your wife should hopefully start physio tell her to keep it up after her treatment is finished as my wife did and all is back to normal with arm movements 😊 Happy xmas and new year to you both and thanks for all the video's.

Best wishes to the boss Bill. As someone else mentioned, maybe airbrush the windows with smoke. I have seen car modellers use it. Vallejo 70.939 Smoke. I may be way of the mark but, could you use kapton tape as tinting as well. Just a thought. Cheers from Australia.

Speedy recovery to yer missus.

Picking up an APT, perhaps a video or two on the restoration. Layouts looking good. The most important of course the speedy recovery of Mrs 00Bill, when my wife broke a hand, a little nip of Malt helped.

Tartan paint is expensive these days so I'd spray them blue and perhaps get some grey or tan paper and guillotine to the size of the table tops (as in take an A4 sheet and cut it length (retaining the ends uncut) and breadth into rectangles) and glue them in. As another suggestion noted, cheap figures will finish it nicely. Hope your wife has a speedy recovery. Best wishes.

Nice to bump into you at Paisley. Hope your wife has a speedy recovery, but she should be incapacitated until at least the 26th! My advice for you APT would be to occupy most of the seats with cheap figures and don't bother painting the seats at all. Cheers

My wife did that same on Dec 27th last year. She then got a frozen shoulder due to not moving it enough (after being told to keep it still) which was even more painful that the initial condition. Not nice, only now does the shoulder work okay, but still not a full range of movement. I send my sympathy to her.

Date for your diary - 3rd Feb 2024 - the Musselburgh toy and train fair is back at the sports centre after a long absence. There are a couple of follow up dates planned for later in the year. It’s run by the folk who host the long-established toy and train fairs in Gateshead, so it should be good. Hopefully your wife will have recovered by then. By the way we have to travel from Eyemouth to Edinburgh to get to a hospital, so consider yourself local! As to the APT interior, assuming it unclips I’d give it a squirt with a grey car primer aerosol which would give you quickly and easily a nice recessive appearance which will take your eye off the interior.

Did you look in the local McDonalds for the absent police? Nice progress on the layout 👍🏻 and hope your Mrs makes a speedy recovery.

Hi Bill, Sorry to hear about your wife's fall and injury. I do hope she gets better asap. I know what you mean about the health service. Local DSG's closed and services being centralised. It is the same state in Wales. As for the APT I would suggest you paint the seats in a slightly darker colour.

I hope your wife is on the mend soon. Meanwhile, I opt for painting the seats of the APT. Painting the windows seems a bit drastic and irreversible to me. By the way, I understand that the earliest 1980s APT were much more difficult to service than the later ones of the 1980s. Take care with how they come apart if you have an early one. Hope your wife recovers soon. I thought Paisley was better for layouts with plenty of room to see everything which was right up my street. Poorer trader support than Falkirk but there was enough to buy something I thought.
