I bought a Civic. Horn didn’t work. Took my buddy out in it and he went to hit the horn to mess with me. It didn’t work. So he smashed it repeatedly. On the last hit we got a struggle of a honk. A few more taps and it works just fine.

It’s because it’s 12volts it’s spinning the horn too fast. He needs to uses a voltage resistor and drop it down to 6volts it’s literally easy to do but he won’t. Basically cut the power wire going into the horn connect the resistor on each end. It drops the voltage to 6 volts and the horn spins slower making the actual ooga sound. Cars didn’t run 12volts before the mid 1950’s. And ooga horns were back in 6volt days.

@@tro_b0t I think it's mostly a sign of head gaskets that are near the end of their life, which is not uncommon on them- so a lot of people have had problems with them running hot, but you likely won't have issues as long as your head gaskets are okay

@timm.6391 9 ай бұрын
The turbo version has MLS head gaskets, the NA version has a single layer graphite composite head gasket in certain year ranges that would fail anywhere between 80k and about 125k miles. I just dropped a JDM short block in my Forrester for this issue, I used the AVCS heads from my old engine and used MLS gaskets when I put it together. The other issue isn't so much the radiator, but the inefficient path the coolant runs in the Subaru engines.

@@goosenotmaverick1156 I haven’t used them outside their designed purpose- wired in series with individual turn signals to match resistance so the flasher will open / close at correct rate(older vehicles) and satisfy body control modules circuit monitoring (newer vehicles). I don’t remember what ohm values are and I’ve never tested one to failure to find how much current they can handle. A horn most certainly uses more watts than a turn signal bulb so your recommendation for using an ignition resistor might prove to be the winning solution.

That's not just a silly idea. We already mentally ignore horns because we hear hundreds every day in a big city. The point of a horn is to warn of danger, so being conditioned to ignore them is bad. But when a different sounding horn sounds, people pay attention again.

I did this to my truck. Just install a separate switch, and install your horn completely separately. Turn it on when you need it, without tampering with your original horn. 😎👍 AND .. just to expand on that a little, and explain ... You want to run it separately as not to burn out the factory horn circuit. I was in the industry for 32 years, and it's actually fairly common to burn out the factory car horn circuit. Factory horns were made to be tapped a couple times, they were not meant to be on for any length of time, that you would see in an auto alarm. Using the factory horn circuit, if it's on too much it'll just burn it up. Also, by way of note during your installation, you should throw a relay in there. Don't just power on a power off the new horn with the switch. Use a relay. Pretty easy to wire. You can find one online I'm sure. Cheers!

@cornbread4297 the grill cover helps direct air flow into the radiator. A little bit like a funnel. It's aerodynamic. Putting anything in that gap changes the effect. It's not empty space for no reason. You can visually get an idea of how this effects things by sticking the tip of your finger into the stream of water coming out of your kitchen sink.

That is a klaxon, they work by a diaphragm (thin disk of metal, plastic, or other semiflexible material) the diaphragm vibrates when power is put across it, and the sound you hear is just basically the click of the metal plate moving, along with the air around it. It vibrates pretty fast. Most car horns use a variation of a piezoelectric buzzer, and they will do something like a 3rd, or a 4th when combining 2 buzzers, for instance sometimes could be a B# and a E or even a B natural. For more information about Klaxons I would greatly suggest looking up the technology connections video about them

So its not actually vibrating the way you described. what happens is a motor behind the diaphram rotates a bunch of pushers that in turn vibrate the diaphram. Thats what makes the distinctive sound that a Klaxon is known for, its the motor winding up and down.

@sterlingodeaghaidh5086 true, I'm more trying to learn the code side of electronics, more than the mechanical/electrical side, gotta learn both tho, also thanks for the clarification as I had forgotten and didn't want to describe the actual function in too much detail (was wrong lol)
@sterlingodeaghaidh5086

@@AaronLyNxAI its easy to mistake, what you described is how modern horns work, their speakers, a coil attached to the diaphram is vibrated via another coil to create the sound.

I believe that type of horn is called a “klaxon”. They produce a similar sound to what was used on some World War II submarines. Also mounting it in front of the radiator might not be a good idea, as it probably blocks some of the airflow used to cool the radiator. I do like the sound of your klaxon. 😊
