Great interview. Underrated player. As a fan back then, you tend to forget how great he was. And he nailed it about the travel. People don't appreciate how it must be. But travelling so many consecutive weeks in 90/91 in the finals after finishing so high on the ladder would not be heard of these days, and most certainly cost at least 1 flag.

Danny Southern and Footscray! yep that makes sense. It was amazing what the Eagles did in 1992-94 and I'm a die hard Saints fan. Sumich should've been the Freo coach about 10- 12 years ago.

What a legend I use to get a little upset about his waywardness but then what do I know he was a great player I am glad I have seen this interview from 1st class of a first class player and sportsman

Suma, one of my favourites. Though I remember the first time I met him was in early 90's, back when he was still at the top of his game, thought he was a bit of a prick. Met him again about 20 years later and few times after, nothing but nice to me. I think he should be coaching the eagles.

I always wonder if east coasters respect Summa or acknowledge he was good....or even remember who he was. He was so great for us!

Cowardly dog act by Southern which is surprising as he seemed like a good guy.

In reality it wasn't in that much danger in the Southern incident, this sort of choke-out is very common in MMA, judo & jiu-jitsu
