They have 12 weeks to open a new training restaurant behind bars. Follow the prisoners and staff of HMP Lincoln on a high-pressure journey of redemption.
Co-founded by Fred Sirieix, The Right Course is a charity which runs training restaurants in various UK prisons, helping prisoners gain hospitality qualifications and skills which better equip them for employment on release.
With thanks to The Right Course, HMP Lincoln and PeoplePlus.

I survived 5 years in prison. I tuck up the cooking class in side HMP oakwood. Started cooking in te kettles . The day I walked out of that shit hole, I changed my whole life around. 9 years later, I am now a qualified chef in all foods . Stayed out off trubel stayed away from the bad company. Probation lol I rehabilitate myself with no help from probation . They are there to make you fail . Food is a passion. I now work for a 5 star restaurant as a sue chef. Hats off to the lads. That food looks nice! This is the exact thing prisons need. I done a year in Wandsworth, and had a great job working in the officers cafe. But many people have nothing to do, and they learn nothing. I know people don't want to help people in jail, but it's important to stop the offending pattern. It doesn't matter what you're given in jail, nothing will take away the pain that you're locked up and doing time. They're people, who have messed up. Most offenders in jail are decent people. Many people helped me out and took their time to help me. I met my best friend in prison and he's gave me many job opportunities and helped me out, even today.

So you decided to make a change off your own back. Why do so many people think the system owes them something, after they mess up? It doesn’t.

@@Jrt91it doesn't owe the prisoners, it owes the public rehabilitation that's the difference, I got out in 2019 for the last time and sorted my crap out (still a work in process) but making prisoners suffer doesn't bring crime rates down ✌️😎

Brilliant idea ... that has come to fruition through people working in collaboration of each other and tirelessly. People need to be kept occupied in any setting especially in Prisons and should not be locked up for hours on end as this is not good for their mental health and physical wellbeing.

The MOJ need to review the people they employ because 100% some people out of prison would make the best probation officers . People whom have been there understand people out of prison if they can relate to someone and see that someone has managed to change his/her life they are more likely to listen and engage that’s one of the main issues I know through my own experience. The MOJ look at this please

But the system is built on a suspicion of those who've done 'wrong.' In recruitment, a previous offender would be like dynamite. Yet the reality is as you say, if they hired guys who've been through it, recividism rates would drop.

@@munasheZOE I absolutely agree with you 💯 . I just couldn’t resist as the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. For those who were not convicted of serious crimes ranging everywhere from murder to let’s say terrorism, learning a marketable skill in prison is highly beneficial. I do feel for those who’ve made a serious mistake in life who seemingly forever struggle to find employment because of their record.

I thought this was recorded at Wandsworth. I did time there. I doubt they'd run this at dispersal jails. But I agree with you. Prisoners are people who messed up in life. Some mess up once, some have no hope in life and mess up regular. The most common theme among criminals is a lack of education. Don't get me wrong, there are people in prison with degrees, or studying for one in jail, but that's rare.

@@IdeologieUKIt's not so much a monkey on my back. I'm a software developer. My crime was hacking related, so I'll never get security clearance for any company that works with the Government. Huawei couldn't employ me because of this. But I did develop depression, anxiety and agoraphobia. Prison wasn't hard, or uncomfortable, but I became used to being locked in a cell. I enjoyed solidarity. That became comfortable for me. Interacting with the world is a frustrating experience. I'm lucky to be able to work from home, and have good people around me. I take meds now, and a bit of cabbage. I'm doing ok. What messed me up even more was being told I had cancer 4 months after release, just as I was getting a place for the family and starting to rebuild. I'm good though. Sorry for rambling.
