The only ones who make the big bucks off diamonds are the wholesalers and retailers. Everyone else just gets very little, unless it's a 5 caret or larger. So damn many diamonds out there. Rubies, emeralds are the ones that get you more because they are so much rarer.

That stone you found was most likely Alexanderite, NOW VERY RARE, (one of June's birthstones-the other is a pearl) not mystic topaz. The pink stone with the small diamonds around it could be a pink diamond or pink topaz or pink sapphire. The redish heart shaped on with tiny fiamonds around it could be a garnet (garnet runs anywhere from green to purple and about every shade in between). If it is set in gold, most likely it is some sort of REAL STONE. Just am FYI. Even white topaz is a precious stone. The rings are beautiful.
@Tanzarian7
@Tanzarian7 Жыл бұрын
Those were not alexandrite... they were mystic topaz, alexandrite will be brownish purple in one kind of light and then the whole stone will have a color change when brought into natural light. The pink stone is most likely morgnite but could be pink sapphire, it doesn't appear to have the sintalation (sparkle as it moved) like a diamond would have had. I was surprised they didn't diamond it test it just incase since it would have been 50k if it was a pink diamond lol

I was thinking the same thing, Tanzanian. I make jewellery & the big stone was mystic topaz but a smaller, similar stone caught my eye as Alexandrite. No longer being dug up so getting pricier by the day! Alex needs to take them all to a jeweller to be checked & tested. Also, he needs to be told that semi has been dropped (quite a few years ago) as anything dug out of the earth is precious.

@@jenniferfox301 ya I didn't even really see that one well enough he only held it sideways most of the time hard to tell what that was was very on the brown side if we are talking about the same halo split shank ring. I picked my own wedding band up at a pawn shop in 2008 and I paid $150 for it and get compliments on it all the time. A few years ago, I took it to a jeweler to repair a broken prong on the setting and he valued the ring at $2000. It is 14k with a row of diamond flowers set just above the band. I don’t have an engagement ring because I would constantly be snagging it on things. I used to manage a clothing store and even my small ring snagged things, that is how my prong broke. I was lucky my ring was dirty, all the lotion in it held the stone in place.

Don’t forget they already made $10,000 on the furniture. So they need way more than $10K to break even with costs. I think they’ll likely make a profit. They should get the rings appraised and have a reserve at auction. I loved the way Melissa wasn’t at all interested in switching out her wedding rings. I wasn’t either when my husband wanted to buy me a larger stone. I’m not a fan of gaudy jewelry even if real. I have small hands and I prefer something suited to my hand size.

@@cynthiaamitrano8915 it's weird isn't it that the bigger the diamond the more fake it looks,? I often look in the jewellery store windows and the rings I prefer are the less flashy ones. Alexander, Must everything go to auction? I don't have a real understanding of jewelry value, but with an honest appraisal you could put a reserve on them and see how it goes . If they don't meet the reserve, then put them up for auction later. It isn't like big items etc, they take up little space in storage. You invested too much time and money on this one to leave it all to chance. Cheers, Rik

Mr. Spector, you must not be familiar with Alexander's auction history...Nearly half a million fans from around the world, from MANY different financial perspectives that compete just to 'get a piece' from Curiousity Inc's 'World of Wonder'- drives the prices INCREDIBLY above and beyond the normal rhelms of the secondary market. I myself have been a jewellery reseller for over 30years - and the prices one has to pay to win one of these jewellery treasures you see in his adventures...wellllll sir, be ASSURED..Alexander & Melissa have NO worries! Even near worthless strings of nonvalue component craft 'jewellery' from Madame Rac's, that one could not sell at a flea market or garage sale for $5, went over $100. I myself paid more for some gold pieces than I will ever admit, just to have lovely treasures from 'the story'. The world's eyes & wallets vying for singular Baubles, makes for an AMAZINGLY, UNARGUABLELY *HUGE* competitive bidding base unlike anywhere- even Christie's.🤗

@@bonnielucas1941 Blue Tanzanite is often treated for color. Natural Tanzanite tends more towards purples, periwinkles and greens. Older Tanzanite rings are less likely to have been treated for color, so have more of the natural look. I have a few pieces that match the color of that ring exactly. One is a very similar setting. Look up 'Green Tanzanite'. That said, I do see what you mean. It *could be Mystic Topaz, but Mystic Topaz usually has a lot of pink in it from what I've seen and I saw no pink in this stone. Topaz also tends to show well in video/pictures without manipulation, whereas Tanzanite often doesn't pick up color well till unless it's on a specific background, well lit and even then sometimes can needs some manipulation depending on the stone. Honestly, better if you're right and it is Topaz, it's harder than Tanzanite and will wear better.

Incredible!!! Beautiful items. I like to imagine a happy couple choosing the puzzle ring set as their wedding bands. They're bound to have a very long and happy life. What you're calling mystic topaz is stunningly gorgeous. What a find! And if it's called Alexandrite and is rare and precious then it's most appropriate.

It's definitely mystic, I have a mystic topaz of a similar cut and it reacts exactly the same in the light, like a blur of colours shifting

I noticed your wife’s hands shake. Mine do too and my kids tease me about it a lot. I have rheumatoid arthritis and believe that is my cause, but my aunts hands shake too so it might be genetic. I’m glad there are more of us out there.

Alex, it's worth looking for a mint mark on the 1909 Indian-head penny. If there's an S at the bottom of the Reverse, it's fairly rare, and that's a good condition.

My grandfather was what was then called a gold and silver smith. He made all kinds of things. It gave me a love for beautiful stones and silverwork. These rings you found are very pretty. And I bet even the fake ones will sell just fine. There are plenty of people who want a big "looking diamond" on their hand. But I loved the ring with emerald the best. Gorgeous.

Look for the "S" mint mark on the reverse of the 1909 Indian head cent. The 1909 S is much more valuable than the 1909 no mint mark cent.

Alex and Melissa, I want to tell you I have been watching and going through the auctions with a fine tooth comb over and over. The minute I saw the peacock I just had to have it. It’s so beautiful. I’m not usually a person who buys much. I admire from afar. I was hoping that beauty would be in the last auction so I could get some money together. I had a little together to by Melissa her missing bowl. Then I saw someone had sent that already. And I knew I would need more so I’ve been selling books and art supplies and such. I was so happy to see it in your beautiful kitchen. It works perfect there. Now I can see glimpses of it every once in awhile I hope. Thank you all for making my days a bit brighter. It means so much. Stacey

I have a small sentry fire safe exactly like those. It’s not for monetary valuables, but life records/memorabilia to grab in case of a SoCal fire or earthquake: original birth certificate, original social security card, passport, my grandma’s hair from 1920s, my childhood hair that matched hers, a sentimental family photo, and a stick drive with all the out of date passwords of my life! Probably other things but only things I’d appreciate saving and nothing anyone would want to steal!

So happy for your treasure find! The mystic topaz looked like a Tourmaline to me. They are Very pricey right now, check that out. In any case, It is so special Melissa should keep it. She could have the Topaz/Tourmaline put in another ring if she wants it more personal.

You should consult a jeweler on these. That large heart shape could be Spinel, and the purple and green could be Alexandrite, both worth quite a lot of money. Also, you didn't diamond test that pink center stone and it could be a pink diamond.

There was a smoky grey color stone, which appested to have diamonds all around it. That could be a smoky topaz or smoky grey amethyst. All the rings are very pretty. You and Melissa are so knowledgable about so many thiennegs. It is an education and a pleasure to Listen to you. ❄️❄️😀❄️❄️

I would definitely take those two stones that are ones that Melissa didn't know or couldn't remember tanzanite or alexandrite I don't think Alexandra I probably can tonight to a jeweler and have them appraised or just have an appraisal done. I wouldn't put them in the same auction with your other stuff I think he can get some money out of those pieces you put them in front of the right people. And the pink stone could be diamond or Sapphire there was something else in there that could be a colored diamond... I'm glad you finally hit a mother lode on that house boy it sure was a lot to dig through to get to some good stuff it wasn't like Madame Rax (I'm sure I'm not spelling that right) good for you guys I'm happy for you! Merry Christmas

It pays to have a wife who used to sell jewelry; Melissa proved to be quite helpful with her gem knowledge. Alex I was surprised at how many real diamonds were discovered with your gem tester. Ok now I'll be watching the Auction when it starts; but I know there is quite a lot of inventory. So exciting for you both to come away with a good chunk of cash that you, Alex worked so hard for. Good Luck!
