Carrie Anne Moss became the hottest woman on Earth for at least a year after this movie came out, and Trinity shot straight up into the stratosphere of "best female characters in movie history", right up with Princess Leia and Ellen Ripley because of The Matrix. This was a fantastic super hero origin film that crossed over with cyberpunk, kung fu action films, and there was a decent sci-fi story in there too about what it means to be human! She crushed this role, and this opener is one of THE BEST I've ever seen in 40+ years of movie watching. It hooks you right in, it gets you asking all the right questions, and in under five minutes, we love Trinity and can't wait to see her next scene.

I think it is good to view this as though you have never seen it to realise what a great start this is. She defeats a room full of armed police using supernatural strength, agility, and their own weapons against them. And then runs scared from the Agents. Its a very clever way of showing h the Agents are increadibly dangerous without actualy showing you (other than the jump between buildings so you know they have powers like hers). She then disapears. Lots of exciting informatin but with no explanation/exposition

First watched in San Francosco in 1999. Just realized what a prudent character Carrie Anne Moss's young Trinity is, never making unnecessary risks, and hewing to plans and orders. She seems particularly averse to Agents, and takes no chances with them that she can help. I personally theorize that the Oracle once predicted her death by an agent....
