Thank you so much for making this so simple. I'm trying to plot boat traffic on the Great Lakes for personal use and maybe a website. I only have a Pi2 currently but it's all setting up.

Great video! There are DIN rail mounts for the rPi for a more industrial installation.

I used to think that indications on vessel instrumental panel is a kind of tech that should have a mission-critical reliability (perhaps less than of military level). However any web-browser doesn't fit into this pattern.

Hi, I would agree with your comment. All of this information is available natively on the system/device/panel its coming from. This is a way to combine it in one place, have an additional station to view it on and to have a backup chart plotter.

Amazing video. Have you checked the power consumption of the PI? Will follow this project, especially around the Victron connection and Grafana. great to see historical data not just the data when Victron app is active. How about N2K will you integrate to that , with which interface? Best regards from snowy Sweden

Hi, thanks for the comments, much appreciated. I did some initial tests and saw about 0.2-0.3 amp on the 12v side. I now have a usb volt meter so plan to do a video showing this with the addition of the monitor. For boat data, mine us currently seatalk1 (St60 era) so I’ve followed a guide to build that interface, as I upgrade I will move to N2K. It was the Victron data that started all this. Just need the lockdown to lift and a trip to the boat.

Awesome video. My autopilot is using sea talk. Are you able to create routes with open cpn and the autopilot follows them?
@BoatingwiththeBaileys
@BoatingwiththeBaileys 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments, at the moment I don’t send any data back to the seatalk network, it’s something I would like to do but part of me likes the fact they they are separated. That seatalk interface is pennies compared to the off the shelf ones and so far it’s worked flawlessly.

do you have a way to connect 0183 from a Yaychevice over Wi-Fi?

Hi, you should be able to create a connection between OpenPlotter/SignalK to your WiFi device and listen to the data. This guide should help openplotter.readthedocs.io/latest/signalk/multiplexing.html

At the start you mention "a full blown chart plotter"; in what way is the open plotter system as a whole that you're looking at here, short of that?
@BoatingwiththeBaileys
@BoatingwiththeBaileys Күн бұрын
Hi, well it tracks my route, I can plot a course, I can send that route to an autopilot. It can show charts for anywhere in the world, it can multiplex different data types and convert them from one type to another, it can help with system migrations, it can show AIS data... having used it for the last 3 years it has more features and options than my Axiom does, the hardest part is making it waterproof.

@@BoatingwiththeBaileys So what you're saying is that its more than a full blown CP ( btw lovely recent vid to QAB .. nr my base!)
@BoatingwiththeBaileys
@BoatingwiththeBaileys Күн бұрын
Yeah it can be, but just build it bit by bit and make sure like with everything else you have a backup, that's why I still run both this and an axiom. Some of the later videos will show the integrations it can do if you have come across them yet. QAB was nice. The bays were great to explore!

Hi, not really but I haven’t looked into it all that much. My initial plan for this was a 2nd system/planning plotter at the chart table which it’s been brilliant at. Got a couple of ideas for upgrades this winter and I also need to look at my ageing Raymarine Kit

What is a good way to get the battery data in there?
@BoatingwiththeBaileys
@BoatingwiththeBaileys 2 жыл бұрын
Simplest - Victron smart shunt and a interface/usb cable. Then the SignalK plug-in that can read Victron data. That’s documented in the video shorts
@myozone

This would work very well with Node-red then you could easily react to data with alarms etc etc. Node-red has tons of 'plug-in's nodes and endless flow ideas. I use it for home automation with Docker, EmonCMS, Influxdb etc - I'm a non sailor 😞

Hi, I've had a try with Node-red a couple of times but never really got the hang of it. Maybe a project for the winter that i can take a look at. Your home automation project sounds interesting!
@myozone
@myozone Жыл бұрын
@@BoatingwiththeBaileys Node-red has a bit of a learning curve but really very simple, think of it as SignalK for MQTT messages. MQTT could contain any form of data as just numbers then scale display within Node-red's UI on send out as serial data. I used to use 3 PI's as for FreePBX, logging Influx and Node-red and Sonarr, Deluge. But now changed over to Promox running VM's for Pfsense, Debian for docker with containers for Portainer, Node-red, Deluge, Sonarr, etc :). Others are Grafana, Emoncms, mosquitto, RTL-433 for logging neighbours weather stations ! and a few other things. FreePBX does the phone and pfSense my router all now on a little 1 liter PC running Proxmox.

@@BoatingwiththeBaileys It's well worth a go. I forgot to mention automation, I've a couple of Sonoff switch plugs reflashed with Tasmota (open source) and an ESP8266 which measures 1-wire outside temp and pressure. Tasmota sensor version can use all the IO pins and ~10 1-wire sensors temp, pressure I2C and more. House power uses a ESP32 counting the 1 watt red led flashes on the meter - no 'smart meter' needed. The RTL-433 receives the oil tank oil level at 1cm increments as well as neighbouring wireless weather stations :). The Proxmox PC uses around 17 watts and also has Windows, Debian etc VM's to mess with.

hi. nice video. how do I get the cpu temperature in signal K. I see in the video that it is there. Perry
@BoatingwiththeBaileys
@BoatingwiththeBaileys 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for the comment. To get cpu temp - Signal K Appstore > Available and search for signalk-raspberry-pi-temperature. Install that, then go to Server> Plugin config and it should show 'Raspberry Pi Temperature', enable this and map it to a SignalK Path. I picked environment.cpu.temperature

@@BoatingwiththeBaileys Many thanks for your quick response. I found this; github.com/sbender9/signalk-raspberry-pi-temperature. but I have no idee what to do with it. What should I install? and how?..
@BoatingwiththeBaileys
@BoatingwiththeBaileys 3 жыл бұрын
That looks correct. So in SignalK (about 8:30m in this video) the left menu should look like mine, if not you need to login at the top right. Default username is pi and and any password you have set. That should give you the menu. Expand ‘AppStore’ and the look at ‘available’ and you should see Raspberry pi temp in the list. Click the little cloud to install it, restart and then it should appear as a plug-in. I’ll try and cover this in a short video.

Your cpu is on fire 🔥 😁 Sounds like Kelvin - should show K in units on the data browser tab. If you display/graph it in Kip you can convert automatically by changing the units. 👍

Hi, Yeah it's all open source software available from here openplotter.readthedocs.io/en/3.x.x/getting_started/downloading.html and for the UK, I had to purchase charts which I got from O-Charts o-charts.org/shop/en/. They have lots of charts for all over the world and you add the plugin and download. I've covered that in another video on the channel. Let me know if you need any further information.
