In the Simple tab, if you have it set to High, that is what controls the bitrate setting on the Advanced tab. Change the Quality to Low, it will change it to three hundred and something K. Setting it to Med will set it to 5Mb. High will set it to 15Mb. That's why it keeps going back to 15. Because the quality setting defaults to High.

In advanced tab of export button, theres a setting for bitrate, lo is 500 Kb/s, mid is 5000 Mb/s and hi is a whopping 15000 Mb/s. The video file i want to adjust is 8MB, lo generates 4MB and is unwatchable, mid generates 43MB with same quality as original 8MB, hi generates 130MB file with same quality as 8MB file, figure this 1 out, I cut a section of video out of the middle of the 8MB video file, video now about half length, output file size 160MB, can't get my head around that one.

I edited the videos of 4K quality and the length of the video is 27mins....When i want to export the video for 1080P it showing Malloc_error What should i do

I downloaded a 20 minute 720p video (446mb) from KZfaq to test making a 12 minute clip from it. When I used the Med setting (5mb/s) the exported video from OpenShot was still as large as the original. Then I experimented with 2.5mb/s bitrate setting and got 230mb result for the 12 minute video. I did a ratio equation 446mb is to 20 minutes as x is to 12 minutes, resulting with x=268mb as my target file size. When I tried 2.5mb/s bitrate I got a file size of 230mb. The quality was good but to get slightly better quality I did another ratio equation 230mb is to 2.5mb/s as 268mb is to x, resulted in a file size of 270mb which is close enough to my linear time scale proportion target size. I could have stuck with 2.5mb/s which is half the Med bitrate value. The Low quality (384kb/s) setting didn't work because I got lots of artifacts in my clipped video.

ok, but what is the criteria for the bitrate? I mean how did you decide on 1.5 Mbs over 15 Mbs (3:40), is there any set of rules or guidelines or any criteria? (BTW, as for your output size, isn't 1.5 a 1/10th of the size of 15 Mbs? (You said the output is a Fifth 1/5th)(4:30)...

update: original 8MB file reports 1000Kb/s bitrate plays and looks ok, I set bitrate manually in the advanced tab of export button to 1Mb/s, output video is 10MB in size which is close enough to original but is sadly unwatchable (heavy compression artifacting). Next test will be how finely it cuts video, might be useful on tiny files using mid settings, other than that this editor is trash.
