"There's this real sense of hope" - It's the saddest music I've ever heard in my entire life. This is kind of long because I'm trying to explain some things. Mostly, there's a lot of back story attached to this music. Not game lore but I mean this sort of meta experience the developers want the player to experience when they hear this song while playing through a mission. So, FAIR WARNING. When it's put alongside you killing like 50 people in the span of 2 minutes and the next story beat is "Hey, nothing got better. But you made money." it kind of cooks into this sort of nauseating feel that you sort of like. The song is a remix of Cosmos, which plays during the final missions of Armored Core for Answer, and the original version is a lot grittier feeling. This version will play in Verdict Day, which is even more post-apocalyptic than for Answer, if you have the DLC for the music. It is worth pointing out, most of the music for Verdict Day is incredibly dark, so these remixes which are really quick and pop stand out to bring a sort of nostalgia feeling which is a theme of the game, as the story of Verdict Day revealed that Armored Core 5 and Verdict Day are actually a pair of sequels to Armored Core 4 and for Answer, and are likely prequels to Armored Core 1, Project Phantasm, and Master of Arena. This is important only because as of Armored Core 3, it looked like FROM was making new timelines for each generation. So to see 4 -> fA -> 5 -> VD -> 1 -> PP -> MoA -> 2 -> AA all linked together like that was kind of mind blowing, as a much more cohesive timeline was formed and the game, and this is also important, didn't actually tell us that this was the case until the very last mission. So this throw back to the older music, of which the DLC has music from more than just for Answer, is very thematic. It plays into this repeating beat of history looping in on itself, of mankind destroying itself over and over and over again with no real hope that things will ever really get much better. Just a cycle of increasingly desolate apocalypses that scorch the Earth into an ashen dust ball every few hundred years. So you're sitting there, listening to this old music remixed, and you're unlocking art assets which only ever appeared before in the very first game, fighting in a war that is escalating quickly, and you realize that nothing will get better. Things will only get worse. But again.. At least you got paid. And that's about when that little tickle of nausea sets in and you sort of decide you want it to stay a while because for some reason it helps you play better. You might notice a lot of Armored Core players actually do refer to each other as Ravens (or Lynx, for the "new comers", yeah you lot are getting old too!), and I think it's because after we subject ourselves to feeling like absolute crap for so long and after years of honing our skills at this game franchise we probably get uhm.. a little *too* immersed in it? This stuff, it gets into you kind of like a disease. I don't really know how to explain it, but I know it's there in my brain and it's there in a lot of other players too. So this music hits a little differently for us. So while the music is enjoyable on its own I think the full impact of the song requires non-aural components which must be more than seen, they must be experienced through the interactive aspect of playing the games. I think a lot of video game music is like that, though. When you have this music blaring at you, and you're surrounded by a dead city that's seen a worse hell than anything Dante's Inferno could have imagined up, and someone is charging straight at you with intent to kill and.. and it's just you two. Right there. Right then. You almost forget it's a game. By the time you get to the part you see as "Danger," the mission is probably nearly over. It's pretty rare for a mission to last that long, so if it has you're probably in some kind of climactic battle with an enemy team of players over some burned out, ash covered, radioactive shit hole piece of territory, decorated with the titanic corpses of boss enemies mass produced during the last great war, slain and left to rust. You're darting between them, trying to ignore what they are, what you did before to cause this, trying to not become like them, trying to make the other asshole share their fate. Your ammo's low. Your armor's half melted. You've got a back up blade, some sort of laser-chainsaw, and you're thinking about if you're going to need it. You're thinking about what the other guy is thinking. How many steps ahead of you is he? Does he know whether you'll juke left or right from behind cover? You try to think back. Which did you do more often before? Will he expect that or predict you'll switch it up? Did he stop firing the particle gun before to conserve energy or did it run out of shots? If it's the latter, you're good, but otherwise? He's had plenty of time for his generator to replenish power. You realize you're kind of fucked. Two seconds have passed in that span of time. You can't stall any longer. You pop a scanning drone. it's your last one. You see the other guy's silhouette through cover. He looks like he's kind of doing the same thing you are. He's probably a pretty good guy. He probably also still has scanning drones left. Maybe he's just waiting to take his shot. The music turns. It's slowed down. It's time to make your move, Raven.

In case of misunderstanding, this music is not from For Answer but rather Armored Core Verdict Day. It's a remix of a track from For Answer named "Cosmos", used in Verdict Day DLC, hence the "New Version" on the track name. Anyhow, glad to see more people talking about Armored Core ever since Elden Ring came out!

Your talk on how Fromsoftware changed throughout the time actually reminded me that Fromsoft, unironically, has made a game named 'The adventures of Cookie And Cream'. Yeah... Also, I've been going back and playing pre-Souls Fromsoft games (on an emulator), and they're actually legit very fun! I've been playing Armored Core IV I think, and the one and only Tenchu game Fromsoft directly developed ie Fatal Shadows, both of which are amazing although Tenchu: Fatal Shadows is definitely my favorite rn. You should listen to some music from Tenchu too! That series has amazing music too. Also, this track kinda sounds like an anime opening to be completely honest lol.

Something i heard from my music teacher (may she rest in peace) is that those little electric sounds randomly scattered through the song give the piece a sense of futurism, they sound like the keys and buttons and alerts you could find on a modern vehicle (in this case a mecha) and i agree with that, without those random sparkly sounds the song wouldn't be the same, wouldn't sound the same. Interesting how something so tiny and random can change an entirely song

Ayyyyy Armored Core For Answer! I loved that series so much. Gen 4 has a LOT more aerial combat sorts of things going and particularly massive foes. In For Answer they introduced city-sized crafts manned by crews of thousands. The Arms Forts. The original version of Cosmos would play during a big battle against Arms Fort Answerer. A massive floating structure armed to the teeth with radioactive Kojima arms tech ready to wipe everything in its path. It was a fight that looked like fighting a divine messenger towering over the sky. Nothing much captures the feeling of that kind of fight in a video game. It's like speaking out against something so much bigger than you. You're not going to find too many videos of it that aren't people showing off how well they can do a mission. Spirit of Motherwill was another beast of fight and song. I wish just one game could recreate that feeling. They gave Spirit of Motherwill a badass return in Armored Core Verdict Day. The Mother Will Comes Again ost. It's very worth listening to. I can hardly contain myself. When the thing you're fighting is the map, I cannot get over how awesome it is to fight.

Armored Core For Answer (4A) is perhaps the start of the transition from traditional armored core to Souls. The premise of 4A is you versus large walking cities with their own flavour of WMD. As well as the traditional armored core mercenary loyalties and clashes. Often, the break in music is usually a drop in point of a new enemy, or boss armored core. I interpret the solo reintroduction of the melody after the break is to get fired up at a new challenger, and I noticed the singer went radio chatter at her last verse. Signifying communication, which is often conversation between player and assailant.

Oh man, KZfaq algorithm blessed me with this recommendation! It was a joy listening to you! I think a lot of people already commented enough about how awesome Armored Core and its soundtrack actually is. Kota Hoshino, who composed this track "Cosmos- /new version" as well as most newer AC OSTs made a lot of very interesting and unique music. One thing which I'd love for you to react to would be "Thinker" from AC4 cause it's such a slow song and invokes a feeling of strong nostalgia even when listening to it the very first time. 04:43 btw. The drummer who's popping off is actually Tsukasa Saitoh, which may not ring any bells, but this was the lead composer of Elden Ring for example. The ER main menu theme and final boss theme were both composed by this very drummer!

This particular version of Cosmos is from Armored Core Verdict Day. I highly reccomend looking at the mission it goes along with. It helps to give context to the feeling of the song. Two mech pilots who live entirely for the battlefield, having a duel to settle things. This was also part of a dlc that added additional music. The original song for this mission (mission 10) is called "Mechanized memories". It has a much different feel.

Funnily enough, From made King's Field before making Armored Core. King's Field was another Dark Fantasy game much like what the Souls series is. That said, they DID originally want to make a complex mecha game at first but were unable to for a variety of reasons So essentially they made King's Field to FUND what they actually wanted to make, Armored Core. And now history repeats itself with all that Soulsborne money going into Armored Core 6 lol

Honestly, they didn't really change much. They got better at making games in my opinion but the first 3 games they made where King's Feild which are pretty much a first-person Dark Souls games. In fact, the Moonlight sword that appears in Dark Souls is in both King's Feild and Armored Core and they made Demon's Souls because they wanted to go back to a King's Feild like game. They really been flipping back and forth between dark fantasy and dystopian sic fi forever. That said, they do branch out a lot and try new things. Like a JRPG like Enchanted Arms, or a tactical game like Chormehounds, or the best and the most American game ever made Metal Wolf Chaos. The aesthetic for Armored Core changes a fair bit with each game (more so in the later ones), and it reflects in the music. Cosmo's new version is actually a remix and was used for the final boss in the (currently) final game for Armored Core, Armored Core Verdict Day; though I do believe there's a way to swap out music if you wanted. I want to agree there's a bit of hopefulness in there that the original Cosmos didn't have, because it relates to the theme and ending of Verdict Day. It might be interesting to compare the original with this one, too; There's a lot of crossover and remixing between Armored Core 4/for Answer and Armored Core 5/Verdict Day. For fans that like the newer Fromsoft games, there's a few tracks like "Spirit of Motherwill" and "Flag is raised" that might sound a bit more familiar, but in general the music is quite different. Personally songs like "Galaxy Heavy Blow" and "Stained (a perfect day)" are just as memorable and amazing, so if you're up for trying something different, there's quite a bit of good music in there. There's quite a lot more songs I really like but I won't clutter this comment more than it is already. The composer for a lot of Armored Core's music, Kota Hoshino (certainly not the only one) is an interesting artist, and if you have the chance and fancy, I'd recommend finding "Buying goods at Palmira" for one of his really early and unique works.

@Joel_Inosin
@Joel_Inosin Жыл бұрын
@Jokzton Seems kinda stubborn to bring up the definition of a theme song, but I'll let you have it because it seems like it's important to you that cosmos doesn't represent anything to the fight. I was only pointing out to Marco that this version of the song only plays in the game specifically in this fight, alongside Mechanized Memories; I'm not invaliding the point of the latter for the fight. If a fight has two songs, they both have some point to it. You're presenting a better argument that I bring up there; why not have one song for hope and one for despair? There's two forces, two pilots in the fight, why is it so hard to think that each presents something to the fight? Really confused why you two seem so intent on this being a orthodox that I'm violating here.
@Joel_Inosin
@Joel_Inosin Жыл бұрын
@Jokzton Really? because I don't remember that being possible. You mind directing me somewhere where I can confirm this? I don't know why you're so angry about this, not the least by insulting me when you didn't actually tell me you can play this on other fights, but if you have a source I can look at too, I'd appreciate it. It would seem strange that you can since I remember them splitting up Cosmos NV for the two phases of the fight, but if I'm wrong, I wouldn't mind being proven so even though you're being a real dick about it.

I was actually listening to armored core music while working on hobbies over the weekend and thinking to myself how Marco would react. Glad I wasn't the only one! Its definitely unique and fun. Dirty Worker from Verdict Day is one of my favorites. Armored core music has this uncanny feel to it that I cant nail down but I always come back to it lol. Now I have to know what you think about Zone of the Enders music!

A lot of the filler missions in armored core games was a lot of music like this. I always felt it was something your pilot is listening to while working. Like if you had a radio in your war machine your probably just going to listen to some rock or techno or flight of the bumblebees. But when your fighting something apocalyptic, like a city size walking base, it kicks into that dread orchestral music. Atleast for this game. Honestly though I prefer songs like this. But Outcry was my favorite from the series which is pretty uplifting so maybe that's got something to do with it.

Just to throw in my two cents as well, Mechanized Memories/Remember, I think most would agree is overall the modern 'anthem' of sorts for the series, the one that most people remember and immediately evoke when Armored Core in general is mentioned. I would agree with some other people's mention that Someone is Always Moving on The Surface is the best piece of musical work in the series. I'm not so sure that would make for an engaging video, though. For videos specifically I'd recommend, as mentioned before, Remember or one of its reworkings, The Mother Will Comes Again, Fall or its reworked version, Fall Into The Grace, and The Answer. There's plenty more, of course, but I think those are the ones that would be most worthy and most interesting to engage with.

You have to try and find some copies of AC4 and ACFA at least my dude. I played so many AC games in my day, and more than half of my playlist is AC OST stuff. This particular song is beautiful once you have been in the mindset of a righteous Lynx fightong what you beleive to be the good fight. It has weight that those that havent experienced thefight first hand may not feel. The part where you feel like you are flying through the clouds, I feel the same thing. But I can see the scy falling and the ground burning as I push on, holding that hope and reaching to graspvictory in hopes of the peace I so desperately want for the world. Then when the song slows down, I feel like I did when I realized that all I was fighting for was burning. The hope leaves me and all I could see, hear, feel, was dispear. And when the singer says her last lines at the end, I feel like I did when I found my resolve. My reason to keep fighting. When I realized I wasnt fighting for my own peace, but the worlds peace. This song speaks to the heart of what every AC story has always been, yet it barely covers the beginning of the story in what you will feel should you get emotionally involved in the plot. The Story that ended with ACV and ACVD has literally every emotion a person will feel throughout their lives. It shaped me to be the person I am today. It made me realize there really is no good or evil. Just 1 giant grey area. To fully understand the words and feel the emotions in any AC song, you have to have lived and died in the universe it reprisents. I did just that. I laughed, I cried, I yelled out in anger. I regreted, I hoped, I loved I hated. I pushed farther than I knew I could, I grasped victories that were impossible... And when I took the controls of Strayed and had to fight my former self, I accepted that I was going to watch a pert of me die and sink to the bottom of the ocean, because I knew I ahd to. And I knew my former self accepted his death as well... He may not have died that day, but at the time I didnt know that. It was the second time I had to watch White Gling die, but this time I didnt feel sorrow.... I felt peace. I highly recomend listening to some of the remixes out there as well. Those that make them love AC and put their on feelings and emotions into their music. OC Remix has an entire album from 4th gen he gave out for free, and it has some real bangers. I also recomend listening to and watching the remix from USUDA, "Do You Remember? Take 2". I hope you enjoy them. And to those fighting, always remember what you are fighting for

This plays in Armored Core *Verdict Day* which is a sequel to Armored Core For Answer. Specifically, this is an alternative track for the final boss (the other song is also a remix of a track from ACFA), and the final boss bears a close resemblance to the mech on For Answer's cover art.

Sorry but Cosmos: New Version are from Verdict Day, not For Answer. To be precise it was added in dlc music bundle for VD game. And of couse it is still a remix of remix (Reprise ver) of original Cosmos from FA. And to add some context - this song replaces "Mechanized Memories" during final mission (which is also called "Mechanized Memories") when our Raven must fight J and his N-WGIX/v or Black Glint (as nicknamed by community). This fight is overall big ommage to Armored Core 4 and Joshua O'Brien - pilot of original White Glint (not the FA one). It is intresting that you mentioned "hope" theme despite not knowing context - i think you actually read mood quite right. While theme "Mechanized Memories" were more about reminiscing (this theme also is remix of older OST which added more dark mood thats actually fits the idea that Raven in mission must witness twisted shadow of former humanity technology glory), new Cosmos more about what may come for Raven and humanity in general after J is destroyed. Yeah, From Software loved grim fairy tales way before any Souls.

People recommend individual tracks from the soundtrack, but I beg to differ and suggest for you to check out each and every bit of avaible bits of audio concerning Armored Core, in my opinion the quality and feel is consistent in every installment. Seriously though, what fascinates me the most about Armored Core are it's fan creations, please do check out USUDA or Shok Music, who make purely fan-made music inspired by AC or like USUDA, who makes magnificent covers and his own iterations of the music of AC, I especially recommend "Do you remember?", the second and newest version he made, which is kind of a remix of many 4th gen era music. Anyways, this was an enjoyable video, earned a new sub :D

I want to point out in this 6 month old video. He mentions FormSoftware going fur Futuristic to fantasy mid evil. Lots of different studios do this. Studio Project Red going from The Witcher To Cyberpunk. Bethesda does this a lot. Elder Scrolls to Fallout. now Stanfield. BioWare Does this with Mass Effect to Dragon age. You even see that with anime and movies. Many creators and developers do this to reset their perspective. refresh their creativity.

Has I've heard in another comment section. The soundtrack sounds hopeful because, usually, the setting is a world ravaged by war amongst corporations and other events, and in that world, the mercenary's in the incredible machines they pilot are the only ones who are truly free, so even among high stakes battles and constant dances with death, at least they are still alive, and having more fun then most.

Interestingly they didn't shift that hard, they just always put new settings in their mechanics toolbox. Hell, they were doing the Parry mechanic as early as Armored Core 3. Parry Blades existed, sure, but they only parried with a laser shield, and if you're bladed while it's pulled back, it puts an AC into a stun state. It's crazy to think how far that niche idea evolved.

Fyi this is the alternate boss theme for the final boss of Armored Core: Verdict day (the original theme being Mechanised memories, a remix of remember, which you should check out), where you fight the main enemy pilot, J, who is a clone of a long dead pilot, and is piloting a way more advanced machine (a salvaged NEXT, which were the armored cores from 4 and for answer, where the original ver of cosmos came from), and his boss and main enemy of the game, the foundation man, a man who has unleashed destructive technology on the world in the aims to wipe humanity out because he's given up on it due to the fact it's at constant war with itself (iirc). Cosmos new Ver compared to mechanised memories seems to represent the player and their last remaining ally, Fatman, side, who believe that no matter what, there is still something worth fighting for in the hell the world has become by that time. When J is defeated, the main enemy says that he still refuses to believe there's hope for humanity and says his machines will not stop till it is destroyed, but accepts that if the player character and Fatman will continue to fight on for a better future, they have every right to do so, with Fatman immediately responding that that's exactly what they'll do. Mechanised memories seems to represent J more, and how he's an artificial being made to be a monster and kill and fight till he dies, whereas Cosmos New Ver seems to represent the player and Fatman more, on how no matter how dark the future gets, they'll keep fighting on for that light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how dim it is. That's just how I see the two songs tho anyway
