There aren't tracks that really cut to my core as much as I've experienced with the soundtrack for Outer Wilds. First, the main theme, so full of heart. Now, this. It really makes me contemplate life, death. The loss of my dad, a year ago. This music is something else.

I know in my community post recently, I said I'd play the Outer Wilds soon but I started it not too long ago, and I can't. It's a little too painful for me. Being lost out in space, falling into a black hole. I think I need more time.

That's perfectly okay. The game won't be going anywhere anytime soon, and as I can tell you've discovered through the music alone it is a game that can dig into the depths of your soul and lay it all bare. It is legitimately a game that changed my view on life, and I know I'm not the only one it's touched this way. And I think I can speak for most of the Outer Wilds community in saying that the reason we advocate for people to play it is because of how beautiful of a game it is, being one of the few games that has truly done what no other medium can do. The last thing any of us wants is for someone to suffer playing through it. Take your time, it will be waiting when you feel you're ready. As will we.

That's super understandable. Outer Wilds is a game in which the horror coexists with the wonder. I do hope you can overcome that feeling, though, this game is the most beautiful experience I've ever had, and if just is music can make you feel so deeply, the game will definitely be something else. Will you record it? I don't know if you're aware, but most people who have played this game are always looking for new playthroughs, and I'd love to see how you experience the music as it plays in the correct context (because, in my experience, videogame music is at its peak when it's situated in the appropriate context) Be curious on your journey! ::)

Outer Wilds feels like a love letter to everything that makes us human. Fear, curiosity, loss, love, loneliness. Sitting around a campfire and shaking hands with tragedy to play a beautiful song that's already hidden inside everyone, though they've never listened to it before. Outer Wilds makes you face it all head-on, and you can't help but come out of it feeling that everything is going to be okay. Everyone deserves to experience this game, and I don't think anything could ever take it away from my #1 spot.

Outer wilds might not be for everyone but I will never stop recommending it to everyone. Because if it is for you, it is an insane 20/10 gaming experience that will change your view on what a game can be and potentially your outlook on life. The way this game took ahold of me when I was playing it is like none other. If you understand French or can bear auto-translated subtitles I can only recommend the video of "theGreatReview"

I got engaged last summer and while neither of us have started thinking too much about the wedding (we're both in our, hopefully, final years of uni and we're long distance) the only solid decision we made was that 14.3 Billion Years will *absolutely* be the aisle song. We'll likely cut it down but the part where the guitar comes in at around 3:44 in this video through to about the 4:47 mark is just... I can't let it go. My life has been one hardship after another but this game changed something in me, man. Solanum put it best, into words I've gotten tattooed on me because they made me openly weep: As a child, I considered such unknowns sinister. Now, though, I understand they bear no ill will. The universe is, and we are. I am ready.

Andrew's song, "Echoes of the Eye," from Outer Wild's DLC (AKA sequal) is hands down the most beautiful piece of music I've heard him do. I very much relate to the feeling of loss and death, but also to the feeling of renewal and calm acceptance that permeates his tracks. So far, Outer Wilds and its DLC are the only games that've managed to make me cry, and I cannot recommend those two games highly enough.

I lost my father 15 years ago, when I was 7 years old. And you know... the sadness never really goes away. But it gets a little easier to bear, after a while. And music like this helps me think about all the things I wish that I'd had with him but couldn't. It's like... allowing yourself to be sad, because to miss something that much means that for at least a little while, you had something beautiful.

For me, this song isn't truly bittersweet or true loss. Rather, it's the beginning of the end, and the end of the beginning. It represents the passing of time in the sense that all good things must come to an end, but through that ending, something new springs up. The track is full of hope, new adventure, and just a little big of crazy. There's a sense of longing, but it's not the focus of the track. The net result being an extremely beautiful track that, if you played the game itself to completion, hits completely differently. Which I do recommend. On my second playthrough years after the first, after playing Echoes of the Eye (which I likewise recommend), it still hit me just as hard the second time around as with the first. Also, try Elegy for the Rings if you just want to continue.

Okay, I know i just said I wasn't gonna say anything, but screw formalities. This game is easily the most gorgeous thing I've ever experienced in my entire life. I don't think any media has really impacted me even close to as much as this, the thought of existentialism, (these arent spoilers btw this is what I took away from it) contemplation of existance, and I think marco summed it up perfectly to how this game made me feel. life is beautiful, life is worth it. I was in a really low spot finishing this game (and a year later, its DLC) but outer wilds always reminds me just how incredible life is. my family makes fun of me for sitting around outside during a nice sunset, always enjoying the clouds, or feeling the grass and leaves on the trees, but whenever i do that, i just remember my time on timber hearth, staring up into the solar system wondering what is and what could be. Its why timber hearth is probably my most listened to track, it just makes me want to live. I have more to say, but I think ill leave this one off here. My condolences to your father, Marco. Sounds like the relationship people dream of having with their parents.

So glad you listened to this piece, it is truly one of a kind. Within the context of the story, this song hits the absolute hardest for me. The second the banjo pops in it is just a floodgate of emotions and then the cello taking over in the end is...it breaks you in the best possible way. I played Outer Wilds while going through some major depressive episodes and the game, somehow, grounded me. It's a difficult game, emotionally, at times but the characters, stories, and lessons it brings into focus are worth it once you feel you are ready to play it.

My grandma passed away a year or so ago. She made me feel loved in a way that I hadnt and havent felt before or since, and her passing didnt hit me until I watched this video. You really nailed it with the title, this feeling is truly indefinable. Its such a profound mixture of true grief and happiness, regret and joy. I remember distinctly there was a day I visited her, maybe a month before she passed. My extended family was all there with her, but she was asleep. She woke up for me. She saw me and said my name and smiled like everything was okay again. She had been asleep for a week by that point. I wasnt old enough to understand how much that meant to me at the time, but hearing this song and listening to you speak on it really hit me where it... something. It dosent hurt, but it aches in that indescribable, maybe good way I mentioned before. Thank you, Marco. This music is beautiful, but I'd argue your words are equally so. the most cathartic thing for me is not just listening with you to my absolute favourite songs out there, but also watching the emotion i feel mirrored on your face. especially with a soundtrack like 14.3 billion years, the leitmotif of outer wilds is just so profound even though it's so simple. it's tender but there's also the underline of "beware, we are so small in this big, big universe. yet here you are, here is life, you exist." I lost my dad last month, and, yea, wow... hearing the points you brought up, the feelings you brought up about this song and music in general is just so well said. The biggest thing I've noticed for me, is just how much music can change after such a large loss. Even music I've listened to almost every single day. These pieces that, still, certainly were impactful and actually profoundly important to me, have changed (or maybe morphed is a better word) sometimes for the better; bringing back memories and emotions of my time with him, but sometimes, well, for the worst; bringing out pain of things not done or said, or the pains of the NOW being here without him. And sometimes it's just what I needed. Sometimes I literally need help to cry because I couldn't. And that is honestly beautiful, even if right now I still have these horrible days and don't feel that way at all.

For me its hard to describe what i feel while playing Outer Wilds and listening to the Soundtrack. But damn this music is a masterpiece. It makes me feel so much and so little at the same time. Its eternal, otherwordly and etheral but also warm, cozy and hearthfull. Its feel like a new begingn but also like the end of something beautiful. Outer Wilds itself is one of the few games that changed me as a person and my view on so many thing. On Death and Life, on the small moments, on friends and fate. I will give a TW from here on. It taught me to accept Death and certin fates and that i dont need to be sacerd of death. It taugth me enjoy life itself and the small beautifull moments that life creates. Just like sitting around a campfire and listening to the music. Id formed my view on life in to something almost nihilistic and im so glad for id, because i fell peace and hapiness. Life happens wherever you are, whether you make it or not. Even if it can be hard, sad, difficult and heartbreaking and at somepoint everything ends but for me thats ok. This music and the game makes me appreciate the beauty of life itself. Life just like Outer Wilds is filled with sadness, tradergy, loneliness but there are also moments of love, curiosity, compainship, happines that you can enjoy even more because of the dark parts of life. I just finished the game today. I’m overwhelmed. I feel both incredibly blessed to have had this experience, and also a burden of responsibility for those in my care. Endwalker (another of my favorite games) really tried to hit home that we become better through our pain and our grief and not seeking perfection. But as parent of a 6 year old, and a school teacher, I see the opposite. Kids go home to neglect and abuse and their troubles will follow them until they die, unless they take matters into their own hands, like the 2 children in my district this year that have taken their own lives. Some of these kids will never know happiness or joy, and my 5th and 6th grade music classroom may be the only place that they can know that somebody cares about them. But I want them all to know that they’re not alone, and that I’m sitting around the fire with them. Outer Wilds is beautiful. It’s a heartbreaking blessing.

Exactly what I wanted!!!!! My favourite song from the game (like for most people (i assume)). And holy sh*t that reaction... you know, when I first heard this song (in context of the game) i shed a tear too, okay maybe some more... Yeah I cried so what????? Maybe for a diffrent reason than you but still... sad, but also... hopefull, encouraging maybe. Hard to say honestly... Such a beautiful song, I can't even describe it. Keep it up, hopefully there is more Outer Wilds to come :D

I have played this game to death, I've listened to the soundtrack dozens of times. And just hearing the piano riff come in in the beginning had me openly weeping again. Full blown crying, because of a connection of the piano song to... something in the game. And what it takes to hear this song in-game. I'm glad you're giving the game a try. Take your time. It can be a lot. It's the most emotionally gut-wrenching game I've ever played and I love it far too much.

This game was a complete journey there and back..I love my games, I love my game music. When a song can feel like it’s pulling a string of your emotions with every note or sound… when a construct of sounds plays your emotions like a melody of instruments.. that truly is something special and something this game did in waves. It holds a place in my heart as an emotional gem nothing could take !

Lose is something so incredibly difficult to truly understand, and even then each of us react and process it in such different ways. The relationship you described with your father is one that I relate to as well. Not only father and son, but friend. Something that very few can recognize in their life and fewer value. When a truly amazing individual is a part of your life, it leaves such a weight in the wake of loss. I feel for you Marco, and I cannot fathom how it may feel, not yet. But your comment on how it will feel to see him again made me smile, and I agree my friend. Life is a multitude of ups and downs, but just as the stars line the sky in an endless ocean of cosmic wonder, may the joys of life be just as innumerable. And may such sweet music as this score the reunion.

I love to see you enjoy this music with your entire body. Lost my dad roughly around the same time period as you. I have found a extend of peace with the finite of life through Alan Watts teachings, but I am looking forward to buying this game, and experiencing what it is about. I will now also stop looking at content related, cause at some point I will find spoilers and I do not want that. Thank you for this video brother. I hope you are doing well.

I lost my grandad 6 months ago, coincidently just a week after I finished the Outer Wilds for the first time. He was the closest thing I had to a dad and we were very close. Every time I hear 14.3 Billion years, I can't help but cry and think of him, and how much I miss him.

This game is very good at conveying that even when we feel so deeply alone traversing the darkness of space- it is beautiful the entire time. The loneliness itself can be beautiful. It's been nearly 3 years since I lost my father to his battle with cancer. You're not alone in your pain, and it's good to feel it. It's okay to not be okay. Embrace the love for your father through the waves of grief. As the years go by, the waves don't get weaker, you just get stronger at bracing against them. Be strong, you got this.

I lost my older brother in 2021. in the same year, I was having trouble even focusing on games, which is not like me. I played outer wilds and the emotion after I beat it was unreal... I needed it so much, a game where I could take my time get to know things slow and really feel like I was part of somewhere else for even a moment. The ending was sad but... not sad, like a small amount of my grief was lifted. The game gave me a chance to just try again and again, and cry for moments I lived in game or in life. It really was a breath of fresh air.

I think the best way to sum up the message of Outer Wilds is this: The end of one story is the beginning of another, even if we aren't there to see it. See you in the next universe.

"It makes me contemplate my entire existence." "Life is beautiful... stunning." The Outer Wilds experience in a nutshell. This might sound strange, but I envy you your pain and sense of loss (and that of several other commenters.) I didn't have that sort of connection with my family. I was born into bad circumstances. I don't say this to guilt anyone for having good parents or to downplay their suffering. I sure as hell don't want anyone's pity. But I sincerely hope that everyone in a loving family appreciates how even grief is a rare privilege. That said, the storytelling magic of video game music is something that's always helped me through difficult times.

andrew prahlow is a genius for his work composing all of this game's music. i've never hated a man more for the actual indescribable emotions his work has made me feel. it just feels so human, so authentic, so true to the experience of living and loving and breathing in the fresh air everyday that you get to share with your loved ones. this game is incredible, and its music is so perfect. thank you for sharing about your dad. outer wilds is not an easy experience, but i think it's one that's so important and everlasting, and even life-changing. and i agree, that this music really does feel like a reunion. when you're ready, i'm so so so excited for you to cover travelers, and travelers' encore.

I usually think about our place in the world, apace and universe. Outer wilds made me love my place and helps me a lot when I feel sad (mainly the soundtrack). I lost my aunt not so long ago and I regreted That I wasnt spending enough time with her. But this music makes me feel like she is telling me: "dont worry. You did nothing wrong". My life will never be the same after playing outer wilds. Thank you mobium

This music will never stop reminding me that this world, this planet, this solar system, this galaxy, this universe.. it’s not mine. I’m just renting a time slot. We all are. And when I, my kids, all of humanity, earth, our sun.. when it’s all gone, I know that somewhere in the universe there are tiny bubbles of safe space that are being born, and dying where life can flourish. And at all times there are places where: *Everything is going to be ok.*

what you said at the end about people thinking games are childish, it's true that a lot of people see them that way even though there are a lot of great games that would be more like interactive pieces of art than anything else. I love how there are so many great games and stories for every single feeling and situation. Another great one is GRIS which explores and shows in many ways what depression is like, showing that it's more than just sadness, and it does it in a way that no other medium could communicate, in a fun and feeling-packed experience, just as Outer Wilds (been a completely different game) also teaches many things about many different feelings
