I attended nursing school in the Caribbean where I'm from. I worked hard in nursing school, did the practical and written exam there, migrated to the USA, became a nurse here after passing the NCLEX and having everything verified and became U.S citizen, never took short cuts and became a success. TBH becoming a nurse in the USA is easier than becoming one in the Caribbean. The resources alone available to USA nursing students is one of the reasons I say this 🤷‍♀️

Very well said my Jamaican sister. I love your critique on this low- down atrocity. It is totally a shameless act to buy a nursing degree. It doesn't matter whether they passed N-CLEX or not. Those fake nurses should go to jail too. They'd be seriously playing with patient's lives in the workplace. I'm struggling in nursing school right now, but it would never make me want to go buy a degree. I'm gonna push through to finish. God willing - next year - I'll have my BSN, RN, pass that N-CLEX and get that great job. And - yes, being Jamaican - my mother and grandmother used to always say, "If you're a liar, you're a thief. How to spot a fake nurse. They don't know the fundamentals of Nursing. Example. They don't know what's a sterile field. 2. They will use wrong technique for wound care. Instead of a figure eight dressing. They do a lay person's wrap. They don't know how to find the switch on every day equipment which they claim to have experienced in using, example feeding pumps, suction machine. They don't know how to suction a patient but claim to have experienced in that area. They don't know how to give an injection or start an IV. But they claim to have worked in hospital. They don't know what a respiratory treatment is. They don't know what's a Care Plan. They don't know to look up the meds before they administer it or come on the job. They refuse to go with a pt to the doctor for schedule appointment if they are in home care. They don't give proper report . Having a conversation with them regarding the patient care they responding like a lay person and not making any sense. They also don't attend to simple pt's need such as checking the pt if they need a diaper change or repositioning. They don't know the proper intervention for what's happening to the pt. I refuse to work with someone I suspected is a fake nurse because they can put your licence at risk. We didn't know they could purchase license in America. Be aware of a nurse who said " In my country they do it different " nursing techniques are universe.

Unfortunately, this has been going on for a very long time. Nurses used to buy degrees from foreign universities and sit the CGFNS exam. This would, in turn, qualify them to sit NCLEX-RN boards. It's scary because the consequences were sometimes fatal. It's sad because most of us foreign nurses are very competent and hard-working. These scandals give us a bad reputation.

You’re right. I’m almost certain my ex gf acquired one of these bogus degrees just recently. She’s been trying to pass the nclex for about 10 years now. I wouldn’t be surprised whatsoever.

I hate to sound elitist, but I honestly think we need to put a cap on how many times you can try to take these exams. I'm a clinical social worker and saw a woman on Facebook who claimed she failed our exam for a 26th time. Uh, do you want a therapist like that? If it's because of dyslexia or another learning disability, there are accommodations available so what else can we do but say "no thanks"? I don't want to tell people they shouldn't strive for their dreams, but if I'm thinking about what patients deserve, that our SW test is really easy. I barely studied for it and passed the first time. No study guide at all. I had to study my ass off for the GRE though which is dumb.

This makes me so angry because we work sooooo hard and sacrifice to much to become nurses and these people just cut in front of the line.

All three schools were accredited by the AACN. Why were these schools accredited? As a nursing professor I would like to know how that happened. If someone with no formal training as a nurse can pass the NCLEX what does that say about that exam? In addition to the wrongdoing by the schools and students, academic nursing needs to evaluate its role in this situation as well.
@NinaAce

No they were not accredited by AACN or ACEN, the strip mall schools just had to be accredited by the BON to sit for the NCLEX. But those same nurses cannot transfer their credits to futhur their education unless they continue at the sham nursing school

Before I became a nurse, I had to study in a junior college for 2 years just to complete nursing school prerequisites, took an entrance exam to enter a nursing program, studied part-time so it took me longer to graduate my BSN while my children and working, ended up with 1 federal and 1 private loan. And someone can just buy it all for $15,000....this is shameful and disregard for the human lives that are at stake here, disrespect for the profession, and very painful to listen to this. Just in disbelief for this.

Wish you could see what's Happening in California. The organization of this specific acute psych hospital is trying to hide it. There's been many complaints from other nurse's of incompetence, and just questionable occurrences. Most of the time complaints and errors get swept under the rug. Because administration and management is also corrupt and involved with hiring these people. It's a very deep rabbit hole.

What is really heartbreaking about this is that it diminishes the value of our profession!! The integrity attached to nursing is associated with the rigor it takes to complete it. This field is not a joke nor should we as the professionals Allow it to be taken as such. I can see a lot of policy revisions attached to these findings. And NCLEX taking a more hardened approach to licensure. Also NCSBN becoming more discerning with accreditation of colleges and universities.

I know one of these nurses and she said that she attended nursing school for LVN the right way, but suddenly the school she attended sold privileges and their name to another school I'm not sure why, and suddenly before them taking their boards, they were attending a whole new different school in the same location. So this school that bought them out was based in Florida, but extended their accreditation to Texas. Im not sure this entire story about all the nurses being targeted by the boards are at fault. Some of them attended school, clinical and read. But the schools did some shady business. And now some of the student's are being targeted as buying fake diplomas.

Your commentary was spot on. I grew up in Lauderhill... I would've trust any higher education coming from that city. I also caution against for-profit nursing ADN programs.. I knew some folks looking into them because many of them do not require pre-reqs... but many of them are not always accredited.... which will catch up to you if you want to advance in schooling.

When my sister told me about this, I couldn't believe it. How in God's name could they make it to the State Boards who know exactly what schools are accredited? And as a retired RN, I feel like you do. They ALL need to be prosecuted. I saw a clip of a "deceived" woman who complained only about her money being stolen. No concerns that she accepted a degree after paying money and without the difficult curriculum and clinicals necessary for that RN job. She took no responsibility. I also believe that during the pandemic, health facilities were so desperate for nurses, and remember, there was a shortage of nurses BEFORE the pandemic, that they didn't do the required background checks. I want to see facilities review every last health professionals credentials. RN, LPN, MD, etc. Bottoming, it is a patient at risk. Period.

To be fair,when the pandemic started and people were dying and not enough nurses and doctors to deal with the crisis, the Government requested that students in medical schools and nursing schools be allowed to take their exams to help with the pandemic shortage and that how they were able to get away without being detected . No surprise people take advantage of every situation . I pity them
