FYI: This scene is describing a group of Chinese special forces soldiers that stole a T72B tank from a terrorist base in order to escape. Then the terrorists, driving the M60 tanks, come out of the base to catch these soldiers. These tanks were possibly captured by the Terrorists from government forces. So sure, maybe that the M60 tank have some good equipment that allows better accuracy when firing on move, but it's the terrorists that are manning the tank, so it's possible the terrorists don't know how to use these equipments and is poorly trained.

Peng Jeff You’re exactly right, been trying to find this movie with English subtitles for a decent price. Terrorists can really only drive, and kind of aim. So moving against a group of SOF who have training this isn’t all that unbelievable.

Rare seen tank battle scenes with 4 real modern tanks. Lots accurate details, like T72 has auto load with makes it possible operated by two soldiers. T72 and M60 really make a match, and shooting when moving at moblie targets is very hard to them.

I really wouldn't call it modern tanks, more like modernish in the 90s. Most modern tanks are like the M1A2 Abram, T-90MS, Challenger 2, Type 99. Those have laser rangefinders, gyro stabilizers, and hit their targets at 1km moving speed with 95 percent accuracy. Additionally all of them have Active Protection Systems against rocket based attacks because they are so expensive.

This scene is really good. The most fantastic tank fight I have ever seen in movie. Hollywood movies always have super hero that can destroy three M60s with PRG. Then a sexy lady with beautiful face will make love with the hero.

The 105 of the M-60 proved fully capable of penetrating the T-72’s armor. The last model of M-60 had a full foot think front armor in the front of the turret which the T-72 could not deal with.

It looks more like a HEP round. Just a plain high explosive round that can be used on bunkers or other things that need blowing up.

Feels weird two tanks with crazy ERAs are shooting each other with chemical rounds... and it is ballsy to try to block a shot with Soviet side armor... if that round punched through the ammo would instantly blast the turret up into the heavens

None of those tanks had any armor-piercing rounds. High explosive would do less damage, but overall destruction is very hard to mitigate with ERA, which is designed to counter anti-armor rounds.

Very realistic. However not a good strategy to put your least armored part of the tank toward your attackers. The upgraded M60 is a formidable tank.

The tanks were armed with high explosive rounds, so none of the rounds punctured the armor - but they did cause proximity damage.

T-72 is much better than M60 Patton. The design of M60 is about 12 years older than T-72. Also M60 has only a 105mm cannon against T-72's 125mm, it's a big difference actually. In real life T-72 should be in able to kill them easily.

They were made for different strategies T-72 was a far cheaper alternative to the T-64, and could readily be sent to the Warsaw Pact allies of the Soviet Union in large bulks. That being said, it was designed for a massive mechanized forward offensive. The M60 (Or specifically the M60A3 in the movie) was modernized to be better at defending positions, preferably in hilly terrain where it could use it's gun depression to it's advantage. It still had a very good 105mm stabilized gun, and very much could damage or destroy a T-72 that's running away. Also, neither side were probably trained all that well in tank combat; one was a Chinese Special Forces unit, and another a terrorist group. Tanks aren't necessarily better than another, put a Veteran crew up in an M60A3 and a fresh out of training crew in a T-72, and I guarantee you the M60A3 crew will win unless they have 0 advantages to use, and the T-72 crew play their cards right.

Age doesn't dictate how effective something is. And bore diameter doesn't correlate to how powerful a weapon is That's like saying .45 ACP is more powerful than .223 because it has twice the bore diameter
