I've handled and raised opossums nearly 34 years of my life now. I love them more than dogs and cats. I am also an Advocate for them and do my best to speak to children and adults about them. It changes a lot of negativity toward opossums. Wonderful video!! Juuzou is adorable. ❤

I love their little hands. I wonder can they be litter or pad trained? I was curious about him spending so much time in the house. I'm curious how people who say they worship God and love God can so easily discard his creations.

I’ve never rescued a possum, but I have encouraged several to come to my yard every night. If you were a gardener, a possum is a wonderful assistant! They are fabulous at eating, the slugs and the snails in your yard. They also are so fun to watch.

It's just so sad to think that possums only lives around 2, 2 1/2 years usually. They have a very short life span. But they're so cute still!

Some will live longer than others. In captivity some make it to 8 years old.

So cute! When I was younger I was afraid of them. Now I love them because of their sweet nature. I feed the wild ones at my house. I have seen a cat, racoon, skunk and opossum all eating together peacefully from one dish!

I've seen that as well. Unfortunately for one unlucky fellow, I also found a possum who'd been sprayed by a skunk. They were probably trying to move into a den the skunk was using and scared the skunk. The possum looked absolutely miserable, with watery eyes and fur all messed up. The smell was awful as well.

He's so adorable. I just love him. I have one who visits me almost every night. I give him fresh water and I cut up fruit. He eats the cat food I leave for feral cats, too. I sometimes see him in one of my trees. I bought an insulated cat house with a special heat pad made for cats on Amazon for him ... or her ... last winter. He actually used it when it was especially cold. Sometimes he sleeps on a cushion on my porch. They eat ticks so all opossums are welcome at my house! He's not really my pet but if he needs me for anything, I'm here for him.

I love these two ❤❤ 😘😘😘 Bathing tips to help him feel more safe: 1.Use a container like a cat litter box in the bathtub, 2. Line the container with a towel so he feels more stable, not slippy, because slippy feels scary. 3. Add warm water to the container so he'll get wet and soapy 🧼 😊 to wash him 4. Have a bucket of comfortable warm clean water and a plastic cup to rinse instead of running water, which is scary. 6. Have all of these ready first, before even getting him into the bathroom ❤🙌🥰

@@kenyaouko7388 Yes you can but it's a lot of trouble to hand raise them from a baby. Then the diet is an issue, as there are conflicting ideas about what to feed them. Diets too high in protein cause disease. Depending on your state, it could be illegal to have them, which causes an issue with vets. You have to find a vet willing to treat them. They can be very loving animals but they are better left in the wild.

Juzzou holding his tail as he sleeps might be similar to human children sucking their thumbs, a way to self-sooth. When we humans are kind to animals, they teach us many wonderful things about their own unique "perspectives" and "world views". We simply need to be kind, observe and listen to them.

For such loving and gentle creatures, their incredibly short lifespan of only up to 4 years is heartbreaking. This might be one of the reasons that they were not domesticated.

People used to keep them as pets, but they were also highly sought after for their fur and meat. Up until maybe the 1940s or 50s, The Joy Of Cooking book used to include recipes for possums. They can live longer in captivity, sometimes to 8 years. If you think about it, hamsters are very popular pets and they have short lifespans as well. As far as domestication on a large scale, you might be right, it's hard to say.

The opposum should also be doing things like foraging and enjoying a natural habitat. Not playing dress up etc Thank you for caring .

They might be doing that. If I had that possum I would turn them loose into the back yard and let them eat the slugs and things like that. They're super adaptable to new places so if they get some of the enrichment you're talking about they can do well inside. But in general a possum belongs in the wild.

I rescued a baby possum once a hawk dropped him in my garden couldn’t find the mom so called a wildlife rescue they are adorable!

I just found your channel and I love it like I love this story. I fed opossums for 10 years, saw so many babies grow up. There isn't much sweeter than seeing a baby possum eating grapes with the moon behind them. They are the sweetest animals, so much nicer than dogs or cats, believe it or not. I always wanted one as a pet but it's not legal where I live and never found one to rescue. Thanks for the great videos!

I love your story and found it quite interesting. I cannot however, agree they are better pets - or “better” animals than cats or dogs. I advocate for the rescue and humane treatment of ALL or ANY animal. As an apartment dweller in an urban setting setting, my rescue efforts have been mostly cats, dogs, birds, the occasional squirrel etc. I’d rescue an elephant if I saw one in distress, but don’t have many of those running around NYC!! Take care!

@@friryr My brother, Ken, lives in NYC and rescues animals too. He always has leukemia kittens from the shelter. He has a friend who is in charge of Central Park's abandoned animals (most are not indigenous to the north). He pet sits for this guy on occasion and sees quite a menagerie of animals. I admire both of you for the difficult task of rescuing and housing animals in the city. Not sure why I mention all this except that it is nice to hear from other animal lovers, wild and domestic. I do love all species and my neighborhood calls me "the crazy animal lady" because I will have a variety of animals following me on my walks - crows, squirrels, neighborhood cats. I wish the very best to you and your endeavors, whatever they may be!

I have raised 3 Opossums .. They are the sweetest most misunderstood creature on the planet !! I LOVE them !! SO SAD that they have very short life spans !!

I live in the woods of west virginia and always have possums, and every year, mom brings her babies over, I have no idea how many generations have enjoyed possum friendly snacks on the porch. I think they are great animals! wish I could upload the latest photo of the newest baby 'george' looking in the window for his snack
