Today we're taking you to what we commonly refer to as "Oprah's Island" in the San Juan Islands, WA. Ever since she purchased a sprawling waterfront estate back in 2018, this amazing island will forever be named in her honor :)
But there's much more here than only O's vacation home. There's a bustling town filled with eclectic shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants and more. In fact, this might just be our new favorite destination in the SJI's!

As a long time Orcas resident...I want everyone to know that although we embrace Ms. Winfrey.....there are struggling residents that live here who love and care for the island 365 days a year.

I’m from New Zealand, not a boatie, but enjoy learning about the wider world through videos like these. I am amazed though at the torrent of abuse from these haters, there is no justification for that, and I for one will make sure that Orcas Island is not somewhere I will ever visit, they sound like the most unfriendly miserable people on earth. Keep up the great videos and ignore their bs.

MV Freedom, this is my first post ever for a video. I live in Japan but originally from New England and have been kicking around the idea of boat living for a few years now once my retirement starts in 2022. Your videos and following another one called Mermaid Monster have been extremely helpful to me. You seem like very genuine people with your travels off the boat being very interesting but you also seem to bear the brunt of people who are miserable and borderline hateful for some reason that’s not your fault. Please keep up the interesting videos and realize there are many around the world that enjoy them.

Mike, we normally like visitors too. But we're in the middle of a global pandemic, on an air ambulance dependent island. Also not sure if you're from WA but there's an essential travel order still in place.

3:22 - Yes, take Elizabeth's advice and make sure to include Washington State Excise Tax into your annual operating budget..It's steep! The excise tax on our little 23" Ranger Tug is over $480 per year. My wife worked for "Ms. Oprah" from 2009 through 2011. She often refers to it as the longest decade of her life! :-)

As a detailer of 20 years, a better product than Rainx is Griots glass Sealant, it lasts longer and is easier to apply and buff out.And to get water spots off use Sud Factories SPOTLESS X2 Glass Water Spot Eliminator, again the best I have found in 20 years of detailing.And yes I do this on every boat I detail.

I polish my windows every time I wash my vehicle. Rain runs off and the bugs don't stick as bad. Great videos. Stay safe.

You guys should look into small e-bikes for your little treks into town. I seen some that are boat friendly with a dog basket attached you would be good to go.

When you live on Orcas we do not call it Ophrahs Island and right now we do NOT encourage visitors during a pandemic. Visit another time when more things are open. Most restaurants are now take out only.It is a community with all the things communnity means good and bad. The video shows this as paradise, remember paradise is someones home

Most people we heard while waiting in lines were visiting for the holiday weekend, so if visitors aren’t welcome we suggest the locals works with your tourism board shut down the WA State ferries to visitors and prohibit all travel there. Now that it’s open people have every right to be there safely and responsibly.

How cool is that. We’re cruising with the Aspen folks next Friday x ten days I’ll have to ask who was Eastsound on the 4th. You guys are one of the couples we follow that has led up to this purchase. Looked at the Nordhavyn 35’ in Anacortes, feel in love with it but decided we wanted the speed. I get impatient when ice cream or Sushi is calling my name in Victoria etc. I’d love to hear what you said about it? Thanks again

12:40 is actually the court yard of the Episcopal church!!! Ocean front worship! I went in (I'm Episcopalian) and listened to a concert they were practicing for. I Totally concur that East Sound is WONDERFUL!!!!! Also so is Deer Harbor around the corner.

We have a little run about, starting to explore the San Juan’s this summer. Looking forward to the different locations that are so close to our Lynden, Wa. home. We have learned really fast to keep an eye on the winds, the south winds can make things really rough in a short amount of time.

No, never waxed my windshield - but will now. Shawn I noticed the smaller drill buffer, what type of pad do you use on glass? What type of wax? As I’m in New England and don’t cruise PMW (yet) I love the technical aspects of your videos. Plus you’re basically living on my ideal retirement boat, so love seeing how you operate. That’s a nice thing about your channel: good balance of tours, tech, and boat life. 👍😎👍 And HBD Mr Sully 🎉

Jay Whitestone we use a 3” foam pad with the Milwaukee buffer, and wax is 3M cleaner and wax 👍

Griots Garage has a great selection of small high quality buffers as well. Use those instead of Milwaukee or Dewalt. Lots of review videos..

You guy's where anchored right around the corner from us when you where by the Allen estate, we are right in Shoal Bight, we keep just missing you guy's. Crazy too see such negative commitments from islanders, let's see what would happen if tourist stopped going to their island? people don't think things threw, I also love how they still manage to watch your episodes, that's nice that they still support you that way, you have a solid passive aggressive fan base. Steve, perhaps you don't get it. In case you missed the news there's a global pandemic going on. While normally Islanders would welcome you, you're coming to our neighborhood when there's an "essential travel only" orders in place. Also it's "through" not "threw". 😂

One day I asked my wife if she would like me to Rain-X her windshield, since I knew we were in for some rain the next day. She told me, no, she was fine and, after all, had been driving for years without it. After she went to bed I snuck out and Rain-X'd the PASSENGER side of her windshield. The next day when she returned from work she walked up to me, leaned her head to my chest and asked I would do her side of the windshield. Of course I did. . .

Yes glass waxing is normal, retired yacht captain of 35 years , rainx is ok , prefer old fashioned glass wax,

You think just because you bought a piece of land where other people like to visit that you have some sort of say there. You knew people visited there when you bought it so you have no right to complain. I’m not sure what that says about your character that you get so butt hurt about what someone calls the place where you bought land. Welcome to adulthood where people get disrespected every day get over it.

Big fan of Rain-X...also been to EastSound and agree that it's still a bit of an undiscovered jewel in the San Juans...next time you are there, I suggest a bike ride to the Moran State Park...superb view of the entire region from up there.

It is not undiscovered at all. And you should warn people that riding a bicycle to Moran Park is very difficult. it's very hilly and there's virtually no bike path. A lot of people do it, but they should be aware of what they're going to have to deal with.

You got us all excited about Sucia. Been there twice in the past 20 years and got blown out both times. So we went back again. SW winds so we choose Shallow Bay in the NW side. Got blown out again. Lesson learned (again).

Glass wax is really great for preventing spots, but for my car I use a ceramic based glass spray, does about the same job

I live on the Gulf of Mexico in north Fla and listened to Coast Guard in a C 130 called out on a blue bird day for an EPIRB that a boater had sent out. Turned out he had run out of gas and had no VHF radio. CG circled near by boat to go over check on him and ended up towing him in. He turned down Sea Tow and I’m sure he tallied quite a bill to the tax payers. Usually EPIRB is reserved for emergencies.
