I'm a dispesing optician in Switzerland and we clearly don't recommend Polycarbonate lenses. They get scratched easily and there's just no advantage worth buying it expect they're a little bit more shatterproof (regarding the fact that's already hard to break any other kind of lens material). In all the years i've been working I never saw anyone breaking their lenses.

polycarbonate lenses are more lighter and thinner than cr lense, and it comes with uv protection

As an optician I feel we should all stop pushing polycarbonate on our patients.. And start talking about trivex/Phoenix or mid index. However you'd like to call it. Poly has horrible optics

EeveeChick10 not even a good safety lens, they still crack. Trivex all the way!
@NiHaLxSeNnAr7 жыл бұрын
MsMetalBabe100 But honestly... i've never seen anyone crack a 1.6 material lens. Trivex (/poly) should only be used for safety glasses or sports glasses.
@MsC9367 жыл бұрын
NiHaLxSeNnAr really I'm just anti poly, I wore it for years before I got in the field.. now there is no way I would wear it again. we get clearer /sharper vision out of plastic, trivex, high index. Poly is always my last resort.
@aoballa0237 жыл бұрын
and as an optician you should understand most insurance companies only cover poly for children or those under 19 and not everyone can afford a premium lens like "Trivex". I wear the Essilor Poly Eyezen lens and love it, I am an ABO/NCLE optician in Oregon and can guarantee you poly benefits more younger people than you think, what if the patient has a rimless frame and cant afford a high index lens? very few insurance companies cover these or even remotely give a huge discount, I complete disagree with you here.

See if the lenses were correctly ordered for your glasses and measurements were correctly taken with the optician. If this holds correct, I’d recommend requesting a follow up appointment with your optometrist.

You need to go back and have them recheck your PD wish is the distance from pupil to pupil. sometimes if it’s off and if that doesn’t work have the eye Dr recheck your prescription again. You have to do it asap so they won’t charge the exam again.

Why would you push a child to have polycarbonate lenses when they have a really high prescription, it's only a 1.59 index. CR39 can provide higher refractive indexes, at a max 1.67 if really needed and generally using a 1.6 with the correct frame choice and centring is best practice. Polycarbonate lenses are more scratch prone and have a lower abbe/v-value making them pretty rubbish to look through. They are far more useful for people who need safety spectacles. If you would really insist on safer more resistant lenses, Trivex lenses are much better for the sporting activities children would usually do. You also refer to 'anti glare' lenses which is totally inaccurate, those lenses quite simply just reduce unwanted 'surface reflections' on the lenses, they will do very little against the sun or car headlights. It is an 'anti-reflection coating'. Only polarised lenses will cut horizontal 'glare'. I don't mean to be negative about this video, but there is so much misinformation with regards to the sale of over marketed Essilor products, as good as they are. Read a basic dispensing guide people! Would recommend 'Essentials of Dispensing' by Tunnacliffe.

you are helping people to find frames that they like and work with their face. its not that hard to figure out lol
@Blacksquareable7 жыл бұрын
OK, I see. So looking nice in your glasses takes priority over whether they give you a good field of vision.
@Cosmicattt7 жыл бұрын
lmao... most people who spend the money on prescription glasses want both a good field of vision and lenses that suit them. there is a market for it regardless of your opinion. clearly you do not understand the nature of business and sales, or the phycology of the average consumer. i would suggest not getting into this line of work if you find it to be beneath you.
@Blacksquareable7 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, I have no intention of doing that. The market is one which has been created by the large chains rather than implicit customer demand. There are certainly opticians which do not take this approach and concentrate on actually helping the customer with their eyesight issues, first and foremost.
@anneasmr35256 жыл бұрын
Nobody said looking nice takes priority. But there's literally nothing wrong with your glasses looking nice while you wear them. That's why there are so many styles and colors available.

As a Licensed Optician, I can say that this is absolutely NOT the way that Opticianry should be practiced. This sounds more like the crap you would hear from a big box chain optical store or from a brand rep. Please do everyone a favor and just remove this.

Are opticians considered a salesman? Do they have a sales goal?
@jasonmerth51214 жыл бұрын
Crush unfortunately in most optical companies yes they tend to be sales reps. However all licensed opticians know the anatomy of the eye as well as how to adjust/dispense prescription glasses as well as contact lenses. There is far more to being an optician then this video goes into. This is all sales bs
@optician20067 жыл бұрын
wrong first thing to do is to ask about script and look at the script and the the questions you mentioned i think there should be a law issued that to be an optician you have to go to school for at least two years then go take a license exam or abo exam to be an optician so sad too see some people barely passed high school diploma and get to be an optician learn optics the right away first before becoming an optician.
@jasonmerth51214 жыл бұрын
To be a licensed optician that’s abo certifies you do... you can dispense and not be an optician in many states though
