Thanks for choosing OPTIMA batteries again! The height adapter you removed from the top of your battery should be installed on the bottom of the battery, which should elevate the battery in the tray and offer better fitment

ProTip! Thanks Optima! In my research, and the many people & clubs I asked on this no one knew this! I even mentioned it to the salespeople where I bought the battery from because I was looking for aftermarket solutions. Must be one of your lesser known features. Will try to fit this soon! Sounds like it will solve the problem!

@@BenCad it's mentioned on the fitment tab on the same page where you took screen shots of our batteries- www.optimabatteries.com/en-us/product-finder?year=2015&make=Subaru&model=WRX+STI&engine=H4-2.5L&find=find

@@optimabatteries yeah thanks Optima, saw that listed but never connected the dots. I might do an updated video to talk about this feature once I do it. Haven't seen any D35 videos for the WRX that also fit the adapter. Thanks for the tips!

This would have been a good video if you had shown how you attached the height adapter before putting the battery in the car. And the window trick doesn't work for the 2014 WRX STI USDM Hatchback, because it isn't needed.

Thanks bro, I got the red top for my 2018. It definitely starts faster, and when using the remote the lights are brighter. I used the spacer.. but now I just want to modify my bracket, get the weight lower center of gravity..

Thx for the video very helpful. My oem battery is also going out after 4 year. I searched up on best battery for a sti and it got me here. Gonna get my self one too. Also what's the difference from the d34 and d35 ? Is it just the size?
@BenCad
@BenCad 3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, the D35 is a little smaller in size, weight (and power capacity). So if you're wanting to reduce weight the D35 will be good, if you want a little more power capacity go the D34. Now assuming you also have a VA WRX or STI if you watched my whole video, you'll see I hit a fitment problem here. If you see the comment below from Optima Batteries themselves, they let me know the plastic lid you get on the battery is also a height adjuster (seems not many people know about this haha). Which I have now fitted and it fits fine. Otherwise, another youtube user has commented here that the D34 fits perfectly with no height adjusted needed in their VA WRX. I have also used a D34 on my previous 2003 WRX which fit fine as well. Hope that helps you, cheers!

h Ben great video i have a wrx 2006 and i run a repco 3 stage trickle charger to my current battery my car only gets driven around 6 times a year my trickle charger says it is good for these types of batteries lead acid, maintenance free, gel and agm so will the OPTIMA be ok with my trickle charger cheers Marc
@BenCad
@BenCad 3 жыл бұрын
hey mate thanks for the comment. I am not an expert on trickle chargers but I believe its recommend you that you should use one that regulates voltage properly. There's a bit of info on Optima's website that might help. But Yes I believe it should work for you, Cheers. www.optimabatteries.com/experience/blog/can-i-use-a-regular-battery-charger-on-an-optima-battery

@BenCad

I'm afraid I don't think I'll very helpful here Steve, we don't get extreme cold here in Australia (just rainy--wet-cold days at worst). I will say that optima has lasted without needing a charge with minimal use during winter. Always needed with my other battery. Hope that helps somewhat.

thanks for the video, about to do the same - would the d34 fit in that space do you think? Shame about the bracket not working with the 35

Hey mate, yeah the D34 I think would avoid the small Issue hit here. I'm assuming by your username you're from NZ so I was a little surprised with the fitment issue as none of the US videos seem to report it (I even asked a few guys directly), may be a few differences in the right hand drive models? It certainly gets tight enough if you over-tighten that front side but its not 'neat' in my opinion. I've currently stacked 2 washers on the bolt which has solved my problem for a more even and neat fit. Still probably a better aftermarket solution but definitely no need to rush to find one now. Hope that helps you! Great battery overall though! Cheers

@@BenCad as an update I got the D34 and it fit correctly, not that you would need to upgrade kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jLOdlKWox5Oxf40.html . I think I will send it though to optima to show them

Hey thanks for sharing that looks like a perfect fit! How far did you need to wind down the nut on the battery bolts to fit it? If at all?

@@BenCad they are close to limit. They would have about 5mm left

Sounds like (at least for RHD models) the D34 is the perfect fit then if weight reduction is not a concern. Thanks for that was great to confirm my theory on its fitment.
