Is your car battery dead? Need a new car battery? Learn how to test if your car battery is bad and how to recharge a dead car battery. Also learn which car battery is best for your car. In this video I show you how to test your car battery with a multimeter, clean corrosion from the battery terminals, test your alternator, test for a parasitic draw, load test a battery, and replace a car battery properly. I also show the inside of a car battery with a bad cell and I show how batteries work with multiple grids and how they go bad with heat, vibration and corrosion. And finally I show you the main difference between the different grades of battery and which is right for you.

Getting the videos to this level of quality takes a lot more time, this particular video was over 100 hours of work (research, outlining, filming, editing, etc) start to finish. That being said, I'm planning on getting some of the next ones out pretty quickly and I'm changing my workflow in a few weeks to make the editing and other aspects go a lot faster! I would like to add a few things to this: •Flat vs dead. A flat battery is a good battery that has been partially discharged, but can still be charged and will hold its charge. A dead battery will not hold a charge at all. •AGM batteries have a faster charge & discharge rate with a higher depth of discharge rating than flooded. They also have different internal designs (through the wall vs over the wall; thin plate vs spiral cell; recycled lead vs pure virgin lead) that affect performance. •Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFB) are an updated flooded design better suited for basic stop/start wear & tear without the additional cost of using an AGM battery (still more expensive than a basic FLA battery). •AGM batteries typically charge at 14.1-14.8V with most vehicles being able to handle at least 15V for a short time during a cold start. Their float charge is about 13.5-13.8V (some batteries disclose this info more specifically). •If the vehicle has a battery management system (part of a smart charging system) then that system needs to be reset as soon as possible after replacing a battery as it monitors the age as well as other variables (temperature, state of charge, current flow) for better charging habits to increase fuel efficiency and battery lifespan. •Stop/start systems are usually equipped with an AGM, but sometimes with an EFB. If a flooded battery is changed to an AGM (or vice versa) in a vehicle with a smart charging system then the system needs to have the battery type changed as well or the battery could be charged improperly resulting in a shortened battery life.

Yeah, he gets paid lots of money to do this stuff. Even received free DieHard batteries. Man, he looks very young. Some people just have a really easy life compared to most of us who have to sweat just to get ahead. My guess is that someone got him into cars like an older relative. It's all about being in the right place at the right time or being born into the right type of family. There's no way most of us could have ever started doing this at that age because the internet didn't even exist and people back then had to work. Kind of like certain influencers on Tik-Tok. They do spend a lot of time making videos and hoping to get views, but they don't know a thing about real work.

Chris, I used to work in an AGM and SLI battery mfg plant and I can say for certain that the example you cut open was our fault. The pole that fell from the battery plates is caused by manufacturing defect. The plates are cast long before they are dipped into the mold of the cell. If the lugs (thin fingers above the plates) are dirty, wet, or cold, the cell won't cast perfectly. Your description is incredible and I just want to share my love while giving you a bit of insight in the industry. Much love!!

When buying a device to keep a battery fully charged long term, the description one should be looking for is "maintainer". As opposed to many "trickle chargers", maintainers are intended to be connected to the batteries for long periods of time and are ideal for storage applications. Really good video, as always.

I always tell my friends about your channel Chris and how good it is. This battery maintenance video is just super. Who remembers all these things today, and it is helpful for mechanics or lay people who just had a bad day with a dead or dying battery. Very good video. Should be mandatory to watch this ( once a year at least). You might not fix it yourself, but you have at least an idea of what is going on/ what may be wrong/ and if the attendant is trying to rip you off on more maintenance charges or jobs! It can be a nasty world out there for the uninformed. Once again Chris. Thanks. One of the BEST videos you have done, and that is saying a lot.

Your videos are just amazing. I always learn a lot, and especially appreciate the little nuggets of knowledge. For example, the hold-down that protects the battery from flying in a collision, why some batteries are placed in the back of the car, why to disconnect the negative first, etc. You always explain WHY and I really appreciate that! The troubleshooting steps are thorough. Thanks so much! I have an AGM battery that is only 3.5 years old. Last winter it struggled to start. I jumped it, and it seemed to have no problems the rest of the year. Now this winter, all of a sudden it has stopped working. I replaced the battery but am wondering why it went bad. The voltage was 11.33V (engine off). Let me know if you can think of any reasons. The new battery only has 12.3V (engine off), which seems kind of low for a new battery. The new battery is an AGM Diehard Platinum size H6. Appreciate any insight. Thanks!!

For what i received i passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures 1 Corinthians 15 3 PS: "according to the Scriptures" - what the Apostle means is that Lord Jesus fulfilled prophecy's of the Prophets of God in Old Testament. There are like hundreds of Prophecies that Lord Jesus fulfilled, just look it up dear ones. God is our Father. He is the best of Fathers, the most lovable and merciful of Fathers. Read the whole uncensored Bible that is Catholic(The Original) and pray my friends. Wish you all well

I'm a Red Cross volunteer. Just last February while on scene of a incident, our Emergency Response truck battery didn't have enough power to start the engine. Our lightbar drew too much power despite the umbilical plug in at the station constantly. We've not had as much emergency calls since as people stayed at home due to Covid, but new orders to drive the vehicles weekly were given, but a lot of us volunteers didn't understand why without much purpose. (including myself) This has been really insightful and I'll be sharing this with my team, Thanks Chris!

Now if I have to take my Beast to the mechanic, I can be specific and knowledgeable about what needs to be done. No more screwing the old Lady 🤪, I've had enough of that.!!!
