It took me about a week to get used to the Skypad, I got it because after a few months I could never get the cloth mousepads to feel consistent even after cleaning, it was never the same as factory new. I value the consistency of the glass pad, even after a year it feels brand new. Glad you mentioned about the PTFE glides and muddy feel of the mousepad, but even after cleaning my G640 cloth mousepad it feels rough towards the center and smoother at the edges. Anyways great video EDIT: To clean the skypad I just run a lint roller over it and if it ever gets really dirty you get just a wetwipe

i may pick one up. I currently have the Artisian Hien Soft. I use this for work everyday for 3D Modeling and Cam, and after couple months of use, I noticed that the small area I use just doesn't feel as slick as the areas I haven't touched, even after cleaning. And the texture of the mousepad on the area that I use most often looks different too, like its been compressed. I need consistency, something that won't change over time.

Sorry you didn't like the skypad :( I love mine with corepads and just being able to wipe it once with a cloth and know that it feels the exact same as it did (in every spot) a year ago is great. The inconsistencies of cloth and needing to wash them to keep them feeling the same was annoying. I think the wrist bunching isn't an issue for me because the games I play don't require me to ever really lift my wrist. It can stay planted the whole time. I do have to wipe sweat every 30 minutes or so but that just shows how much sweat (salt, oil, skin, etc) is going into a cloth pad constantly without realizing it.

I’ve been using superglides with a modded g pro x super light on a lethalgaming Venus pad. When I first set them up just breathing near the mouse made it move, after breaking in both the pad and glides, I really like the setup. Super fast and smooth to where I don’t realize I’m moving anything more than my hand In air. I’d say it’s borderline too fast for flick shooters, but I generally guide the cursor to target and track, so it’s perfect for me.

I bought a skypad a few months ago and I love every second of using it. I came from cloth to g440 and I already had the sweat problem there. I picked up one of those artist gloves (I don't know if it's called that but those pinky and ring finger gloves they use to draw on tablets) and that worked for me on the g440 and I love it on my skypad. I only wear it while playing FPS games. it does get sweaty and needs to be washed but the sweat doesn't bother me on the pad anymore. my cat on the other hand... every time she walks over my skypad I need to wipe the hair off. unlike my g440 she doesn't like sitting on it and block my mouse. maybe that's because the glass feels cold on her toebeans.

I have been using the skypad 3.0 for about 3 months now. I never had problem sticking unless it's super hot. I bought a arm sleeve and I honestly don't feel like I need it. Flicks are not very easy, but with practice, it gets easy, tracking is insane, I feel like I have aim assist sometimes. If you don't sweat while gaming, I think skypad is no brainer, it's always consistent, a quick wipe down before playing is all the maintenance you need. Humidity doesn't affect performance which is something I had a problem on cloth pads with hyperglide, which was my setup before, where everyday day it would feel different, some days I had good aim, other I didn't. Now it's pretty consistent

im using skypads 3 with no mouse skates on g pro super light, and it feels super good, very consistent. my arm does get stuck on the mousepad since i dont use sleeves, but most of the time i dont even feel anything at all, and that is also how i get the feedback for control and with some parts of my palm as well. with the sleeves, its much harder to control. 10/10 experience for me not having to clean a mousepad all the time is just so convenient. and other problems with it are just easy to fix. I use it for CS, and i believe it works on all games as long as u get use to it. i think any pad with good, consistent glide and big is good, glass ones even better. and its great for if u r bringing it to a tournament too, if ur teammates arent performing great, well it can feel good smacking them with it too 🙃

If you use teflon feet, the Shidenkai will wear out fast. I think it's the residue from the feet that gets stuck in between the glass beads. If you use ceramic feet however, I noticed zero wear over 2 years use. I would imagine it would be the same for the Superglides.

Honestly I think the skypad 2.0 was the perfect balance of speed, low static friction and good dynamic friction. There's a bit to be said about glass pads being too fast as you've shown. Ignoring the gripping aspect a hard pad doesn't give the ability to use the cushioning of a soft pad no matter now plush or firm it is to increase the dig of feet. Surface area doesn't increase friction but the different angle of feet against the surface does and this is something that you can't do with hard pads. All the more reason a slightly more controlled pad in general is best for a hard pad because you're not losing any smoothness or inability to absolutely fly anyway. Skypad 3 was honestly a silly product over the skypad 2. Basically a butter meme pad for people chasing a slippery glide for no actual benefit

This sound ridiculous, but hear me out. A small piece cut from a large ziplock bag works perfect for palm/hand sweat. Just big enough for the contact patch of your hand. Zero friction, lasts a long time, and no sticking to the pad. I use a GLIDE 38 which has a very similar feel to it, and this method is a must for me. But it works.

I don't like glass pads so I haven't tried the skypads. I had high expectations of the superglides and I love what they offer and how they perform..... until they turn into a muddy mess. Also, I think the Shidenki is being discontinued and does have durability issues. The Raiden is a fantastic feeling fast pad but it will cause spin outs occasionally. I would probably main this pad if it didn't. I'm also an aussie and happy to lend you the pad, if you did want to experiment with it and would like to hear your thoughts. to me is is still faster than what my superglides have been after they broke in after a week. Really happy you did this revisit to the superglides, I had picked up a set just before your first video. I had them for a couple of months with my Hayate Otsu and thought I was going crazy while playing Apex. When tracking targets my mouse would feel magnetic to the pad in one spot, such a strange sensation especially since this wasn't just a little pull either it would almost completely stop my mouse when tracking across the used spot on my pad. I searched extensively online for other experiences and came across nothing as I could not find another superglide + artisan user with this problem. Thank you for putting my mind at ease, I have just purchased a set of core pads and I'm not going to look back!

the skin-sticking-to-pad with the skypad can be countered by just a long sleeve shirt, hoodies make the problem worse because of how bulky the sleeves are on most if not all hoodies

I can confirm re:Shiden-kai durability. I have owned two, and both lasted 8-9 months before the centre area starts wearing down to the point where the glide is noticeably affected.

Shidenkai was discontinued, and yes it has low durability as the glass particulate layer wears out quickly. There's a method to peel that layer off and get a pseudo-Hien experience afterward.

Hey Ali, Shedenkai(?) user here, Mousepad itself is great very smooth movement and feel but very weak in terms of durability I've only had mine less than a year (2-3 hrs use per day) and It's noticeably worn where your wrist rests on the pad almost as if the layers are splitting apart. (I can "pinch" the top layer of the pad)

Adding to the superglide, the Razer Strider mousepad (maybe because of the rough surface) has a noticeably inconsistent feeling if not watched monthly. It also shows some shiny particles on the dirty part of the mousepad, which tanks the smoothness even further. The dirty part of the Razer Strider would be similar to a QCK Edge (my old mousepad), while the clean one would be very fast, making traversing from the clean to dirty quite jarring.

I have a Roccat Alumic mousepad that I bought several years ago. What I found is that although the pad itself doesn't wear out, the skates do wear out and the material becomes embedded into the grain of the pad and is impossible to remove. They will also wear out your skates faster. The Skypad is advertised as "The last pad you will ever buy" but I strongly suspect that you will run into the same issue I ran into with my Alumic pad. There is no such thing as a pad that lasts forever.

I initially hated the Superglides. Double clicking on the desktop borders on rage inducing. After 2 months in game (& using my G502 on desktop) I now like them, definitely frustrating at first but they do slow down over time.

Honestly it just reveals any flaws in mouse control. Either the superglides or the skypad if you're not using super low sensitivities will immediately reveals not only flaws in grip but also inconsistencies in performance day to day. Which while not for everyone since I totally understand wanting to hop on and have relative consisitent performance. It is invaluable for people looking to judge their performance over the long term for improvement. And even short term just to know when you're having an off day.

had the superglides and reeeaaally loved them. I've never had less issues with tracking in Apex and had my highest-kill game with them. But the fact, that you couldn't click without moving and vibrations on your desk led to mouse movement were things I couldn't get used to. I still have the Superglides on my Outset AX but changed to Tiger Ice on my NP-01. Aas you said, not as fast and easy tracking, but balanced and consistent. And I get to play CS or Valorant, too. Maybe if they'd create some Superglides with a tad more stopping power this would be a thing even Pro's could change to.

I haven't had an issue with sticking to the skypad at all, been using it for a year now and I love it. First with a Zowie EC3-C and then with the Finalmouse Phantom Wireless. No need for sleeves, always a smooth glide, however I play with fairly low sens so my arm never stays in one spot for long, which could potentially be the case. If I left it in the same spot playing a slower FPS like Valorant, and mostly doing small adjustments with my wrist, I could see that being the case. I think low-friction speed pads are typically better for low sens players overall for that same issue. While high sens benefits more from having a more control-like pad.

I use one at 28cm/360 with an XM1r and the only time my wrist/arm becomes and issue wrt friction is when I've been playing for hours and I end up placing my arm/wrist on the pad from getting tried, when I normally don't place them on it. I don't play Val too seriously, but from what I've played it was actually pretty nice.
@senseofpermanence

@@asoidfhowehjr8248 My sens is at 43cm/360, though it used to be 57 which is why I went up a bit. I generally play faster games where barely such a large swipe to do a 180 was just not working for me.

@@senseofpermanence yeah, I used to play Overwatch on 43-50cm, and I felt like fighting flankers as hitscan was needlessly hard. Recently started wrist aiming, and I'm still getting used to it, but I actually prefer the Skypad + ptfe feet over anything else. I tried really hard to main the Hien, but I just couldn't for whatever reason. The tracking and the occasional flicking I do on OW is godsend for me on this pad.

Would cutting the tips off of a garden-variety cotton glove help? You could also take a one-size liner, stretch it over and mark where you'd want to cut. Would keep the fingertips exposed well enough to better know where your fingertips are at.

I recently picked up the Superglides just because I wanted to try them out on my GPRO Superlight, and it was not what I expected at all. With my LGG Saturn, there is a slower spot (where I make contact with the most) and I had a similar experience as you. It feels very muddy but at the same time, I'm still able to micro-adjust with my fingertips/wrist very easily which is quite preferable for me (I play VALORANT). With the expectation that I wasn't going to be able to control my mouse at all because of the extremely low friction, this happened to be quite the pleasant surprise for me. 8)
