That's a fire board and stout too (ASUS B450-I) I have a 2700X on it. Really wish I got a strix Z390-I for my 9900K even if the VRM is eh it has more BIOS features then the Phantom ITX. I'm pretty sure that is why Ali switched to the strix over the phantom. That and the ASRock dumps way too much power in when OCed to 5GHz and well cooled.

The biggest technical advantage of X570 is the option to add a second Gen 4 NVMe drive. You only get 20 lanes Gen 4 lanes from the CPU with B550, which leaves you with x16/x4 4.0 between your x16 PCIe slot and your primary M.2. The X570 provides an additional x4 4.0 uplink, where the B550 will only provide x4 3.0 uplink for the second M.2 slot.

Are you planning on looking at the asrock b550 Phantom gaming itx as well? It has a rather interesting io-layout that seems to be optimized for sandwich-style cases. Hey Ali! Finally an overview video of B550i Mobos from you! I want to see a detailed thermal performance comparison between MSI MPG B55OI and ASUS STRIX B550I mobos using only air coolers and Noctua fans in Ncase M1 builds. The components could include Ryzen 3700 (or 4700), Noctua U9s (or any other cooler you see fit), 2080-Ti (3080 or Big Navi would be better), 16GB 3600mhz Ram (or higher), one Gen 4 M.2 NVME SSD, and a large enough PSU. The point is to see if I build a gaming rig with these parts using either board, which one could give me PS5 or XBOX Seriex X level gaming performance while maintaining low temps and noise next to my future 4K TV. I know it's a lot to ask from you to build such a specific system, but it would be very popular I suppose and might give you a boost in terms of subs, given how high the hype is before the next gen consoles' releases. If you could not build one exactly as I requested, which is totally cool, could you please at least build an ITX gaming rig using only air coolers and fans that could sufficiently cool the next gen GPU 3080(Super/Ti or 3090) or Big Navi? I heard they could come with a monstrous TDP of 300W to 350W. Beisides comparing the thermal performance/noise to next gen consoles, I really want to learn how you could arrange as many fans as possible inside Ncase M1 with only three 4-pin headers on both of these boards. I noticed that you don't highlight how you split the fan cables in your previous ITX builds. Is header shortage not so big an issue if you use AIO or am I just not smart enough to figure it out myself? ASUS Strix B550I has all three headers (CPU FAN, CHASIS FAN, AIO_PUMP) capped at Max 1A / 12W (Manual P20/68), while MSI MPG B550I has different configurations for each, CPU FAN (Max 2A / 24W), PUMP_FAN (Max 3A / 36W) SYS_FAN (1A 12W) (Manual P38/69). How many fans could you use? Which header would you connect which fans to? How many fans would you split out of each header? Would you use DC AIO PUMP header as fan header and connect a seperate fan controller to regulate the fan speed with voltages? How do you control/coordinate fan speed if spliting makes some of the fans not PWM compatible? What would be the best configuration for each board? I might be asking for two different videos, but as a noob to PC building, I would appreciate that you mention how to split fan cables and utilize multiple fans with limited headers in your future videos, especially if someone's being forced into such an instance. There are two other reasons for my first request: the first one is that in China where there are ridiculously strict security check procedures, passengers could not pass a checkpoint carrying any form of liquid without drinking it to prove its safety if he/she wants to board a public transport (eg. train, subway), and any item holding more than 100ml of liquid must be put in check-in luggage where they could be easily damaged (like United Airline breaking the guitar) or opened & checked without owner's consent/presence, or drained if he/she wants to take the empty container onboard, thus exluding the option of fitting an AIO in an ITX computer if you want to travel with it in China; the second reason being the intention to see my idea properly tested as practical by a pro before I invest a few thousand hard-owned dollars into such a set-up.
@DeilGrist

In this breakdown, would love to see what the VRM quality between boards does to temps, as if it is a large delta it could affect what cooling you need in cases that don't support anything but small air coolers. Or at least let you time down the fan profiles. Sounds dumb to spend an extra $100 on just for that, but then again we're the same people buying premium fans.

Great video, thanks for the comparison of these two mainboards. I´m curently watching the B550 ITX Mainboard market. When we are talking I/O one additional difference between the two boards is the spec of the Type-C Front Header. I've just finished a build using the Asus TUF gaming plus x570 mboard and am delighted with it. Not to go into too much detail I've used a Ryzen 5 3600X (3600 is fine without the so called overclocking x prefix and you can save money) 16Gb DDR4 ram with EVGA GPU 1060 and paired with my Samsung 55inch 4K tv the pc system works phenomenally well re streaming/gaming et What I looked for re my nieces build was some future proofing re CPU, memory, other devices. This certainly allows for that. Though I will NOT use vega graphics enabled CPUs AND I take serious note now re motherboards and Ryzen compatibility. Great vid and once again informative.

Looking at the new PS5 hardware with high speed storage, one can argue that future games will require a fast interconnect all the way from storage to the GPU. PCI Express 4.0 definitely helps in that regard. A lack of games today that don't take advantage of high speed interconnect doesn't mean that it won't be necessary in the upcoming few years.

Hello, Optimum Tech ~ I like your video very much. I hope you will continue to make more related videos for new computer products and research. This time I have a problem with the CPU heat dissipation BLACK RIDGE that I have studied in B550 and before. It is when BLACK RIDGE is installed in On the bottom plate of the B550M.. Will the GPU slot on the motherboard also be covered? Because I have seen you in-depth research and discussed that this heat sink has more or less compatibility issues with many ITX motherboards. For example, after installation, it will I lowered the height and covered the GPU slot and the motherboard VRM radiator is too large. And I use the MATX motherboard. But I did buy it too quickly and forgot this problem. So now I want to ask.. I don’t know BLACK RIDGE Can the radiator be fully compatible with the GIGABYTE B550M AROUS PRO motherboard. If it is not compatible, then I will return the radiator to the seller as soon as possible and choose another radiator. If there are other friends who know the actual situation.. I hope to share with you. .Thank you for your help

As someone who’s currently running the ASUS X570-I ROG Strix in my current PC, I would 100% recommend the B550 variant. It has a much better layout, and the X570 version has no USB type-C front panel connector. I think the B550 may also have 2.5 Gbps LAN whereas the X570 model has 1 Gbps. X570 might be better if you really want the best VRMs and tons of good rear I/O (Ethernet port excepted), but overall the B550 is a much better choice for most people in my opinion.

Here in Melbourne Australia, at Centrecom, the pricing for the cheapest B550 & X570 is only $5 apart, and from there they're mixed in pricing upto the most expensive B550 being $439, with the next cheapest X570 being $355, though there is a couple of X570 boards up in the $600+ range. This is a mix of mATX & ATX boards. In my opinion, with these pricings, I'd be going an X570 board.

I like that all the MBs now are with grey and black colors. I like the black and red too for people that want a bit of color but I remember some Gigabyte MBs in orange, green or some Asrock Formula (?) in yellow and damn. I liked those tbh, they were cool too for a thematic PC when we didn't have RGB yet (that I hate, I don't want light disturbing, thanks) but at the same time in those years we didn't have all black or grey MBs. Also, I see so silly the underglow in the motherboards. The new Gigabyte ITX B550 have it and oh god... Its the ITX MB that I like most and now I have to deal with it

Ali, the B550i Aorus PRo AX seems a better choice than either of these MB. I just paid $159 for the AX in the states with a 3700X combo.

Problem is that you can't currently get "cheaper" b450 boards now. They are all out of stock on both Amazon and New egg, the only way to get them is to pay higher than MSRP. X570 is getting hard to find at msrp, so if they actually have stock at MSRP next week on the boards that are releasing july 6-7, thats what you should get.

2:50 - Trying to understand what the diagram (particularly on the right) is saying about the X570. It says on top that it supports EIGHT PCIe 4.0 lanes. ___________________ Under it, it says to choose between either a x4 PCIe 4.0 lane (I imagine for m.2 SSD drives that are capable of PCIe 4.0), Or TWO x2 PCIe 4.0 lanes (I imagine that means for 2 smaller devices like a network card), Or FOUR SATA3 6Gbps (meaning normal SATA cabled drives like 2.5" or 3.5" ones. My question is, if you have both m.2 PCIe 4.0 slots occupied (like on an Asus X570-i Gaming motherboard), does it mean it throttles the speed of any other cabled drives connected to the SATA3 ports?

105w tdp ryzen chip (3900x 3950x) has a power limit of 142w if you don't unlock it. That translate to ~120A, and that definitely can be handled by b450i strix 240A VRMs. I'm currently use a 3900x with strix board and it's working fine. However if you plan on overclocking, go b550.

Think my b450i gaming plus ac will do just fine. Depends how sketchy MSI bios for 4th gen is tho. Still haven't fixed the cold boot issue. Fortunately simply enabling erp ready in bios fixes it.

At this point I’ll buy either a b450 or b550 depending on what comes in stock first here in the US. Every itx motherboard is sold out.

One thing not a lot of people know, you can actually upgrade the built in wifi card on most boards. So if you want wifi 6, just buy the $20 card and take off the wifi card shielding. It's just 4 screws.

I'm sad you weren't able to test the B550i Aorus Pro AX ITX motherboard. It's got an TRUE 6+2 phase VRM with *90A* power stages. (no doublers) it's actually one of the best B550i motherboards, and one of the cheaper options. Also, there are rumblings about PCIE 4.0 being a necessary part of *next gen* GPUs.

can you review the ASRock X570 PHANTOM GAMING-ITX/TB3 Mini ITX? especially it's tb3 capability for EGPU. if it's possible, it will make the itx build much more flexible.

One thing you missed was ethernet speeds. The reason I went with B550 on ITX is because they were the only boards that had 2.5Gbit ethernet ports. Even the X570 offerings didn't have that. My NAS transfer speeds are now more than double than what they were, which is useful as I don't have my mass storage inside my ITX build.

My Asus b550 Tuf (basically the Strix) is awesome for overclocks my 3600. Hitting 4.5 all core @ 1.23v with an AIO temps are 45c gaming and 55c on a Cinebench r20 loop. Prime 95 does get up to 65c with smallest (hardest) setting.

I’m disappointed in low amount of usb ports and absence of optical audio on almost all b550 itx boards. There’s really not a single board that has 5-6 3.2 usbs, optical audio and front usb-c connector at the same time.

I would love to buy a b550 board as I'm planning on building my first sffpc right now. But neither x570 nor b550 support my ryzen 1700x and I don't want to buy a zen2 CPU now because zen3 is supposed to launch later this year. I've wanted to wait a bit after the zen3 launch to get a good deal on a 4950 or something. Now my only options are suspending my build until next year or buy an "old" 470/450 mainboard. So much for the 5 year support of am4...

In 2012 I built a AMD FX 8120 computer. It is still running well today. I did have to do some upgrades and and address a failure but it still runs. My failure was replacing the CPU heat sink from the stock one, and a hard drive. Upgrade is mostly graphic cards. i do not remember what I started with but I have always used Nvidia cards. Last card is a GTX 950. I am not a gamer but is it possible to build a computer that will last for 8 years today? I have built a AMD 3900X. Even though it benchmarks around 3000 in Cinebench and my old FX benchmarks at a whopping 77. But in real life it does everything I wanted it to do. I do not see that much improvement with a really expensive computer I built I am wondering if this would last as along as the FX did? I guess that nobody really knows? But building computers not only for speed and purpose should not only be concern for folks like me. It is lasting and being able to run the upgraded programs that we use and the higher resources they use is why I upgrades it from the FX with Win 8.1 to AM4 super box. But this new one seems to not be as tough as the FX. I am just wondering about longevity. I do not know if the problem I am struggling with is really hardware or OS software. I hate windows 10. I really did not like windows 8 or 8.1 with that metro junk. But I could fix that with software programs. I can fix win 10 for looks but it still acts stupidly. By the way I hate UEFI too. What is your view on this?

With inventory being so low, and pricing all over the place, currently the ROG Strix B550i is only $8 more than a B450i... And the X570 is nearly $100 more than the B550i... So, ROG Strix B550i it is! First ever build - just ordered: NZXT H1 NVIDIA 2070 Super FE Ryzen 3700x Next to purchase is the motherboard! Very excited/anxious to start building! Any words of encouragement/tips are appreciated :)

I would have liked an X570 itx board that included the USB 3 3.2 front panel connector. The one on my NZXT H1 irks me that it goes unused because my Asus X570 board can't connect to it. The Asus B550 is a hard swipe due to it's skimpy offering of rear IO, the MSI does a better job in that department, too bad it's not available anywhere.
