Күн бұрын

The Office of Public Works’ annual Winter Solstice gathering at the Neolithic Passage Tomb of Newgrange on 21 December was cancelled this year, due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
The hugely significant Solstice Sunrise event was live-streamed from within the Chamber, on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of December, so that everyone could experience this wonderful phenomenon from any location around the world.
During the closure, an archaeological research project was carried out at the 5,200 year old Newgrange monument where we scientifically measured and monitored the movement of the winter sunlight coming through the roof box into the passage and chamber, to determine how the beam of dawn light interplays with the chamber as we move towards Solstice and then past it.
Results of this research project will be issued in 2021.
Live recording officially commences at 14.10mins on this Video (Please fast-forward)

Just what my Celtic spirt needed this morning as Jupiter and Saturn also align up tomorrow - the Great Conjunction - we are all reminded that our place in the Cosmos , our Cosmic home, is here, now and forever, in time and space.

Thank you so much, Clare and Frank, for a most touching and informative presentation. I remember the time in the 50's - early 60's when you had to borrow a key from a local farmer so you could open the entrance gate at the front! No one was aware then of the significance of the Winter Solstice at Newgrange.

Buíochas as ucht an léargas...thanks for the enlightenment and illuminating the dark recesses of our uninformed minds. How appropriate that this phenomenal gift from Newgrange should go viral as we emerge from the darkness as we contemplate the error of our ways. If only we respected and embraced the precious realm in which we live and appreciated what we have, instead of pushing the planet to the limit in pursuit of greed. Feliz Navidad y próspero año from Andalucía ón Spailpín Spánach.

People show up on the exact same day as the people who built the alignment into their monument over 5,200 years ago and that alignment will continue 5,200 years into the future on the December Solstice. I hope this information gives some joy for although the technical issues are intricate, the monument itself is a testament to our understanding of the motions of the planet rather than guessing how the Newgrange builders understood the great daily and annual cycles.

Hearing the repeated begging of the lady to "show the Chamber Please." causes one to be irritated at the complete disregard of the event inside. She is lovely person whom apprisssiates this much more than the camera operator. It would be nice to have seen this strictly inside where it actually matters. If there is "artwork" in there no one would know.
