France completed the elections to the French National Assembly recently and the snap election's results shocked everyone across the globe. The snap election was called by the macron government after dissolving the National Assembly and the first round of the France Election 2024 was completed last week with the far-right party national rally leading. Everyone expected the National rally to gain a majority in the national assembly and form a new government in France. But the final results after the second round were shocking. The left-wing coalition the new popular front gained the maximum seats and Macron's Ensemble came in second place pushing the national rally to third place. To understand the French election results properly, one needs to understand the French political system and the French electoral system properly. You don't need more than 50 percent votes to win in the 2nd round, if there are 3 or more candidates. One who gets the most votes in 2nd round is elected. Also, to qualify for the 2nd round, you have to win 12.5 percent votes of the total eligible voters in the particular constituency, not 12.5 percent of the votes polled.
