I am from the Midwest and we used to get our hands on shine once in awhile. We learned at an early age to take a breath first, take a SIP and exhale after it went down. The Vapors, oh dear GOD ! , the vapors. My first drink of EverClear ( legal moonshine ) I was already prepared for what was coming. It was a bit smoother than the parts cleaner moonshine we were drinking. Yeah , that stuff was the dare liquid you used as a right of passage. We had lots of slang names for it but KZfaq won't let me list them in comments.

In utmost seriousness and honesty, I must partake in a steadfast defence of this, the younger generation. Being part of the unknown generation or gen x as we are colloquially known as, we rarely if ever did or even could enquire to our elders for knowledge in such matters. As we know all too well, the most common advice we received was to go figure it out. While I am quite certain that you, the commentator of the aforementioned video, have all the best of intentions I can’t help but to query if your initial response to said inquiry would be met with a response that could be described as little more than a expression of disdainful curiosity. PS Had to try my hand at writing this just to see how it turned out. 🤦‍♀️

The reason I have a few large bottles of that stuff in my home is when the panic buying started cleaning out supplies of rubbing alcohol and other other anti-septic items from the stores at the start of the pandemic along with all the hoarding of toilet paper I found the local liquor stores still stocked pretty well with intoxicants and as I need a way to prep for insulin injections and since rubbing alcohol patches were becoming rare to find in the stores I naturally figured a few liters of Everclear would make a adequate substitute. I'd never drink the stuff. You drink bourbon or scotch not paint thinner.

I actually love everclear. Do you know it has medical properties as well. Take the bottle and put about 5 of those shots in a drink mixing jug, such as would be used for tea. Then add cranberry juice to the brim. My friends father shocked the doctors on his health once drinking that with his son every evening. But really, I loved that burn when taking 1 shot not in a double shot glass. Or course it also helps being an ex bartender to understand different types of liquor. But he would never do well with a long Island iced tea. 🤣🤣🤣 I actually know that was coming and yes I did laugh because this new generation amazes me with there failed attempts at what we did when we where younger. I guess Gen Xers have more brains that this new generation. But it's amazing knowing what will happen before it ever does happen. 🤣🤣🤣 Really has me cracking up laughing.

Before electricity was as safe to use in the body as it is today, surgeons would use phenolic acid to cauterize the stump of the removed appendix. To keep the phenolic acid from eating through the intestines it was immediately neutralized with EverClear. Then we irrigated with saline and closed. I was 18, the idea of drinking something so strong that it was used to stop a very strong acid? Not even the guys that hit the bars after work were tempted 😂 and this was the early 1070s. Maybe it was because I was in the army, maybe because we were taking care of a lot of people coming back from ‘nam with injuries that needed further treatment, but it seems sobriety wasn’t as common then as it is now.

Everclear is not for drinking by itself, only for mixing. Ouch. (We did have a party with Everclear after graduating basic training - in the 1980s.)

Gnarly Dude! It's totally rad how like the comments section is all focused on the kid, and not on the trilobite speaking like Jeeves. Seriously though, to act like our Ps when we were latch key kids learning on our own is hardly creative or original. Every generation has it's "Can you believe kids these days" moment. At least weed is legal now, in some places

In my fraternity days I figured out that seven shots of Everclear put into two quarts of Kool Aid is the perfect ratio. It will get you hammered without obliterating you…..too quickly.

LOL, I used everclear to make hand sanitizer when I could not find any around, while drinking a corona. It is a two for one joke, but true.

Oh, I'm sure they could ask us older generations, but how many of us would actually tell them the truth or challenge them to experience it themselves so that we can be entertained by what happens? I know I'm all for a good laugh!

lmfao!! when i was a young marine, we used to take 2 bottles of 190 proof everclear and put it in a juice dispenser (preferably the grape juice dispenser) and the entire company would get ripped off that. 190 proof isn't made for drinking shots! but i admire their aggressive tactics. in honesty i think they would have done better to ask those that came before for advice, then proceed to the test. of course it ended the same as we would have expected....hilariously! good stuff bubba! keep'em comin'.

Ahh everclear, great for starting a grill when it is cold, Stripping paint, Put it in your lawn mower if it is kinda sorta empty and you "want it to go faster". Ohh and you mixed it with other non alcoholic substances.. a lot of them. The only thing more notorious was Absinth.
