I like the smaller rotating cups with the oral b and the variations of heads is better. I use the heads that have the little rubber cup in the middle and the 3 or 4 little rubber bristles between thr Fibre bristles. Teeth feel very clean after every time. I feel like the sonic cares minimal up and down movement doesn't compare to the oral b rotational movement

I own and use both of these toothbrushes. I like both of them but the Sonicare has a fatal design flaw. After some use, the Sonicare starts collecting dried toothpaste under the On/Off switch, even though I rinse off and wipe dry the handle after each use. Eventually, the Sonicare collects so much dried toothpaste that it becomes almost impossible to turn on or off the handle. Mine did this after 2 months of use and I called Sonicare support and they were familiar with the problem and recommended that I thoroughly clean the switch with hot water and a cloth. I did this and it fixed the problem but the problem came back after another month of usage. It appears that this is a design problem and that the Sonicare engineers need to come up with a waterproof and toothpaste proof switch to eliminate the problem, permanently.

My first sonicare was a cheaper version. It died shortly after one year of use. Then I bought a diamondclean hoping it is more durable. I was impressed how good it cleans so I bought another two (to wife and mother in law). None of them are functioning anymore (the winner kept running ~2,5 years). Battery is not replaceable. I have a feeling they were designed to die after warranty expires so you can buy a new one. The oral-b in the family still keeps functioning after 4 years daily use. (You can but I will never buy sonicare again.)

If you like the Sonicare scrubbing action then look at the Burst toothbrush. It costs $70 online and the replacement heads are $6 online. You could buy 4 Bursts for the price of just one Sonicare DiamondClean and, in tests, it beats Sonicare in the thoroughness of cleaning. It doesn't have all the fancy apps, like Sonicare, but who uses all these apps anyway. It's just a simple good cleaning electric toothbrush with all the useless frills and extravagant cost of the Sonicare.

I recently switched to the Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean from years of using Oral-B brushes. It feels like I upgraded from a kid brush to an adult brush. The quality and designs are incomparable - the integrated screen of Sonicare is just so much superior and more futuristic to Oral-B's IO screen. Also, the noise of Sonicare is significantly lower and much more pleasant than the drilling noise of Oral-B. The only thing that worries me is some reviews about faulty design features that make the brush break down after two years.

Your girlfriend has had incredibly good luck with Phillips customer service. Most people have to spend up to 1.5 hours on phone to get replacement approved and then often don't receive their replacement back in the mail based on reviews. My Sonicare began working poorly after 8 months (with 3 year warranty because I signed up online). After half hour on phone with a voice that was so hard to decipher (due to accent) combined with a rooster crowing in the background (asking me questions that were all answered on my online registration such as name, address, date of purchase, date of registration), I decided to hang up and never own another Sonicare again. Hope Oral B works well for me. BTW... the longest I've had a previous Sonicare last is roughly 2.5 years.

I see that the Philips do tend to die frequently (lots of reviewers say so), but I'm afraid of anything that isn't gentle on my gums while still doing the cleaning required. @electric Teeth -- What are your thoughts on which one is best for delicate gums with mild gingivitus?
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 3 жыл бұрын
Laura. Sorry to hear it has failed just outside of the warranty period. Too often the way isn't it. Both are fine for sensitive/delicate gums providing you are not brushing too hard. Setting the brush to a more gentle or less powerful mode can ease the brushing. Plus you have softer bristled heads available too. Some dentists will have personal preferences, but both are comparable really. I would question, do you need to consider such premium brushes? These are top of the line models and there are more affordable options available.

My sonicare came for six and a half years. I have mild gingivitis too. I found sonicare could not really brush the back version of my front teeth and plaque accumulated over time. So I generally use sonicare for the front and sides and io for the inner sides of the teeth because of the oscillatory motion. Flossing was the ultimate answer to gingivitis.

Sonicare and Oral-B should both be fine with implants and geographic tongue. The implant itself should be very secure in the mouth having fused to the jawbone. The toothbrush should not cause any issues here. Was the cause of the loose implant really determined to be the toothbrush? So both of these brushes should work for you. Same with me. Had a composite filling come away from the main tooth. What started as a feeling of a small ridge down the side of the tooth (the filling slowly loosening from the main tooth) lead to the filling coming out Never had that happen until I used a sonic toothbrush. My gums were also damaged too. Ultimately my dentist said electric / sonic Toothbrushes aren’t for everyone. Especially not those with receding gums. No matter how many pressure sensors that have. The vibration is more vigorous than a manual soft brush. My dentist also said there is no need for such strong brushing in these electric brushes for most people. Our teeth are very delicate and usually not that dirty every day from just abit of food. So they are really unnecessary. People get addicted to the sensation and buy into these brushes. Well at least my dentist was honest and admitted that can damage dental work and manual brushes are more gentle for those with receding gums. He said the increase in gum recession has been high in his practice since these fancy toothbrushes came into the market

Do you know of any tooth brush that comes with a ‘chargeable’ travel case? I.e you could juice up the case before a trip (it’d have its own internal battery). And then charge the brush inside it overnight. Meaning you didn’t have to bring a spare charge cable/plug.

Hi Sandy. Apologies if it comes across as confusing. The DiamondClean Smart is the brush that I would choose. It is a tough decision to make as the differences between these are realistically quite subtle. However, as a complete package, the DiamondClean Smart just takes the edge. The Sonicare offering just feels a tiny bit more refined and the way the technology is implemented feels slightly more intelligent.

0:00 Introduction 0:29 Verdict 1:00 Key differences === ⚠ UPDATE - Battery Life ⚠ In this video comparison I suggest a battery life of 6+ weeks for the iO. As part of our testing process, it is necessary to simulate battery use for consistency. We do this by charging the brush fully and running the toothbrush through brushing cycles until it discharges completely. The iO continues to offer a battery life of 6+ weeks in these tests. However, repeated in hand testing has shown the battery life to only be 2 weeks. This is a discrepancy we have never previously experienced. All other brushes have to date performed almost identically during in hand test to those simulated.

All the bells and whistles are useless. For the Sonicare, just get the single speed $40-50 models w/quad timer and pressure sensor. This cleans as well as the $200 model. Low price is important because this isn't any sort of investment. The handles last for about two years before they die (unlike the original, bulky Sonicares that could go a decade). The more expensive models are essentially the same mechanism only with more potential failure points. At $40, these are priced as the disposable items that they are, so you don't feel bad about tossing them out every couple years from a pricing perspective, though I hate the waste that Philips wants you to generate. The Oral-B's have lasted way longer in my anecdotal experience, but I feel the oscillating head isn't the best idea for preserving gums.

I hope I remember everything correctly as I am looking into buying a new electric toothbrush. In one video, you recommend Philips Sonicare over Oral B IO; in another Oral B Genius X over Sonicare, in another IO over Genius X; in a third. I do realize price is an issue in some reviews and some features not relevant to function (eg. design) are a factor, but one review seems to contradict another a little, though this may be due to models. Naturally the tech will continue to evolve and there are many considerations that could put one ahead of another in different ways in a head-to-head comparison. I was wondering if you had a chart comparing the three (referring to some specific model numbers, of course, as there are differences within a range) so I can make the best choice based on the criteria that are relevant to me. Thanks, very informative channel. Sonicare > IO: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nLuJaZh9sZy3kY0.html IO > Genius X: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/obGRqdujntHcYok.html Genius X > Sonicare: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gZyaedmTqNO9mps.html

Apologies if there is confusion, but it is honestly quite tricky for us to always make a consistent recommendation. As you say yourself the models are evolving and the prices are changing, so in many respects it is a moving target! Models and prices change from one region to another too. For example, Sonicare tends to be better value in the US than it does in UK/Europe, yet the models are typically very similar if not identical. We do not have a chart that puts these 3 models in a head to head comparison I am afraid. We are looking at ways/tools to do just this, but at this time we do not have such available. All will clean the teeth really well, make no mistakes about it. All will give you way more than you need too. There are much more basic and affordable options that exist, that will serve you well. The DIamondClean Smart is typically one of the most expensive options, but in my opinion it is the best all round package. When you consider everything you get, then it is the 'ultimate'. The iO is very similar, but things like the travel case are not quite so well thought out, in my opinion. The Genius X is the best value of these 3 because it still has many features, but isn't perhaps quite as slick at the iO and DiamondClean Smart. More than happy to answer any specific questions you might have.

@@ElectricTeeth Thank you very much for the comprehensive response, time and the informative reviews - I wish it were so easy to find info about everything tech; your comments here were also very helpful. I've been using an older Oral B electric brush for some time and am happy with it, but it's time to upgrade it. I travel a bit so the IO would not seem to be the ideal option. I also like what I see of the Oral B app as a kind of "training tool" and like the small head for reaching wisdom teeth, but after reading this I'll look into the Sonicare options to see which pack offers me the most at the best price. Thanks again for all the info. I guess like sports teams, one team might stack up better against one than another, it's not so clear as to say one is always superior. I'll think about what use I can make of the extras. By the way, the comparison chart was just to avoid needing to watch the videos again to find details, though that may not be your goal here. is not the sonicare motor more powerful at 62,000 brush movements vs B-IO 48,000
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 2 жыл бұрын
Oral-B do not disclose the number of movements the brush head makes on the Oral-B iO. They do/have for other models. The iO brush head still has an oscillating, rotating and pulsating action, however rather than being measured by a number of movements per minute it is now measures based on the oscillation angle. Thus it becomes quite difficult to compare. The number of brush head movements only plays a small part in the overall ability/cleaning performance of the toothbrush. Technique and brushing time have a far bigger impact on your oral health.

It is just a session where we have been testing the app and the brush etc hence the longer brushing time

Why no one compares the noise level? It's literally one of the biggest factors for me and I guess no one cares!
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry! A small difference for most, but I understand it might be a big issue for you. The iO louder than the DiamondClean Smart. The iO is quieter than most other Oral-B products, but still not as quiet as Sonicare.

@@ElectricTeeth Thank you for the response. I used to have Oral B until two years ago when I switched to Sonicare and I must admit I miss the circular motion of Oral B and I still prefer it. But the only reason I'm not back to Oral B yet is how loud it is. I wonder how many more years it's gonna take them to reach Sonicare level of quietness.

All Sonicare toothbrushes are made in China and all Oral-b toothbrushes are made in Germany excluding the carry case of the IO9 and a few brushes and ecessories, that made my decision very easy, oral-b all the way!

Not true. When looking for the high end models, yes, I do believe Philips Sonicare is better, for the reasons I give in each video. I ultimately have no preference which brand someone picks as long as they get a product that suits them.
