⚠Since recording this video, the iO Series 10 has been launched. Despite being the most capable iO model to date, we still recommend the iO9 over and above the 10. The iO Series 10 isn't worth the premium currently asked. The 9900 is still our top overall choice for the reasons given.

@BukuiZhao
@BukuiZhao Жыл бұрын
Clarification: The main reason why the IO9 is recommended over the IO10 is due to the price. According to the RRP, the IO9 is at 600 pounds while the IO10 is 800 pounds. However, as Oral B brushes are typically discounted by at least 50%, you will typically find the IO 9 at 300 pounds and IO10 at 400 pounds. The difference is that you get a IO sense stand which can make some features more convenient, but for most people, the IO9 already has more than you need. It depends on your circumstances and your store as to whether the price premium is justified, but in case of the 100 pounds officially, many would say not. If it is more like 50 pounds, many would also say yes. However, bluetooth is not essential to have healthy teeth and you only need something like a Pro 3 3000.

Didn't notice it mentioned in the Adaptive intensity chapter. The Sonicare app also allows you to define "problematic" areas (e.g. inflamed gums) in your mouth and IIRC the brush will adapt the intensity / pressure sensitivity when getting there.

One thing I’ve noticed is the oral B makes the toothpaste turn into liquid very quickly and just runs down the stem. The sonic care froths the toothpaste and is much easier to brush without spitting during the 2-3 min. I used manual for the longest time and that’s how I’ve always brushed otherwise with the oral just feels like you’re wasting most of the tooth paste.

Jon there is one other thing worth mentioning - and I don't know whether you have picked up on it. When you take the brush head off the oral B iO series, it is no longer a simple metallic pin (like with older models). It is now this chunky plastic thing which has all sorts of nooks and crannies, which after a while starts to stink as it collects a lot of gunk. Not easy to clean other and oral B dont even talk about how to clean this new head adapter (and would probably void the warranty!!!). But the sonicare still uses the simple and slim metallic pin, which is not a receptacle for nasty gunk and therefore, more hygenic in my opinion. What are your thoughts?

Indeed the connector is different on the iO Series. It isn't as easy to clean, but I haven't found that it smells. I give it a rinse every other day or so to keep it clean. Not saying it isn't an issue, but I have been using the iO Series for the last couple of years and haven't found it to be a problem.

Thanks for this review! I’m a long term Sonicare toothbrush user (16+ years) and switch on and off with an extra soft Oral b manual toothbrush. I have receding gums from years of over brushing when I didn’t know better and sensitive teeth due to grinding. I bought an Oral b io series 9 when my Sonicare failed and even on the extra sensitive setting using gentle care brush heads the toothbrush was too powerful for me and caused me soreness and pain. It did an excellent job at cleaning, better than any toothbrush I’ve experienced but my teeth and gums couldn’t handle it. I really wanted to keep it but just couldn’t. I just purchased the Sonicare 9900 and I’m very happy with it with no pain or soreness. I completely agree with the reviewer in saying that one isn’t better than the better. They operate differently and depending on the user’s needs may or may not be the right fit.

Thank you for the detailed comparison @Electric Teeth! I have a question though. In your "Taking care of your teeth..." video, the dentist says sonicare toothbrush needs to be rotated while moving. Was that the case with the other sonicare models but not this one?
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 2 жыл бұрын
Great question and is a topic of debate. Sonicare's official guidance is that their brushes should be used like Oral-B brushes. 45 degrees to the gumline and then slid/glided tooth to tooth rather than in circular motions. Our in house dentists believe that the addition of the circular movements is beneficial. At the time of recording that video, Sonicare hand't introduced this scrubbing sensor that now activates if using that circular motion.

The Oral-B iO9 sucks cause the battery doesn’t last long or it indicates the wrong battery percentage. I had my iO9 replaced about 3 times now and it still does it every after one year when you’re going to travel the battery barely last a week. Also I have noticed that when I’m finished brushing it will show the percentage which is 45 - 55% and after a day it will start for only 4 seconds then it’s flat then I have to wait like 10 minutes to brush my teeth. I love the features and performance of the iO9 but the battery barely last long so my iO9 gets replaced almost every year until the warranty runs out.

I used to have the Sonicare Diamondclean but they kept breaking. After 3 new ones I have up and decided to go for the Oral-B IO9 instead. For me personally it was a big mistake. Something that really bothers me is the size of the brush head. It is so thick that I find it a lot more difficult to brush the teeth at the back of my mouth. You don’t happen to know if there are any brush heads available for the Oral-B that is more similar to the Sonicare compact brush heads?

Hey. It is a shame to read you are not getting on with the Oral-B brush like you expected. There isn't such a head for the iO like Sonicare heads I am afraid. @vignesk6669
@vignesk6669 Жыл бұрын
You are only basing this on technology. I think the most important part of an E-Brush is the shape of the brush head. The Philips has a manual brush head shape. It needs to be held in a particular way so that the entire surface of the brush head is in contact with the teeth. I find it a little hard to hold in one manner. Especially in those front teeth, where the shape of it is curved and not all part of the brush head would be in contact with the teeth. You need apply more pressure to press the brush against the teeth so that all part of the brush is in contact. Good thing, the 9900 has the auto intensity setting which will regulate it. I think Philips must provide this technology to avoid users from over pressuring. This looks like prevention rather enhancement. Also, the app monitoring makes FALSE report as less time spent i.e., less 6 seconds in certain zones even though I spent more than 6 seconds. I suspect this is due to me trying to change the position of the brush for ease of use. The 9900 requires precise use and it’s quite regimented… you can see that in the app report. The Oral-B with its round brush head is more flexible as you can hold the brush in any direction and the entire brush will always be in contact. You can concentrate on other behaviour like pressure/pressing the brush control. Also, the Oral-B allows you to use the brush more than 2 minutes where at times when you need to brush longer, there is no interruption. BTW, I have been using the 9900 for a month now and thinking of returning it. I’ll get an Oral-B brush, good thing about Oral-B is, you don’t need to buy the most expensive one to achieve a good result. That round brush head design is a better design, easier/relax to use.

Hi there sir. Great comparison, do you know an oscillating toothbrush that has a long battery life? Like 3 weeks at least. If not, do you know an oscillating toothbrush that stays at the same power regardless of power? Infact this is more important. My sonic fairy will toothbrush feels just as powerful at 100% as 10%. But I get a better clean from oscillating toothbrushes. My oral b one was great but only for a week where it became weaker. It was older tho, do new oral b ones stay as strong even on lower battery? If they do could you tell me which please?
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. No Oral-B toothbrush that I know of lasts for more than about 14-16 days. I certainly haven't tested one that lasts 3 weeks on a single charge. The iO is the quickest of the Oral-B oscillating brushes to charge, so although not 3 weeks it can be topped up in just 3 hours. There are other brands that offer oscillating brushes and have a better battery life. I have not tested any that I recall have a battery life greater than 2 weeks. There is the AquaSonic ProSpin that claims a 1 month battery life. Most Oral-B brushes do lose a bit of power when the battery is really low (approx. 10% or less). Whilst this can be frustrating they can still clean the teeth well. From memory the iO doesn't do this. But I have to be honest and say I haven't used it recently at that low of a power setting to confirm.

You don't need to let it dry for 24 hours. Yes, you want the bristles to be allowed to dry out and not remain soaking wet, ideally. In my opinion it's unnecessary to buy 2 brushes, but if that's what you want to do then so be it. I have no meaningful reason to say one is better than the other for morning vs night time brushing. @ElectricTeeth 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. Good question. We did update the video description to the review & pin a comment with the following message. In the video I suggest a battery life of 6+ weeks for the iO. As part of our testing process, it is necessary to simulate battery use for consistency. We do this by charging the brush fully and running the toothbrush through brushing cycles until it discharges completely. The iO continues to offer a battery life of 6+ weeks in these tests. However, repeated in hand testing has shown the battery life to only be 2 weeks. This is a discrepancy we have never previously experienced. All other brushes have to date performed almost identically during in hand test to those simulated. I hope this explains the difference.

Does it? First show the Sonicare 9900 Prestige case followed by that of the Oral-B iO. They are quite different.

There hasn’t been a study yet that claims one technique is definitively better than the other. A couple might lean towards one or the other, but clearly state that the difference is marginal and that they need more data to confirm.

Are both of them waterproofed enough to use in the shower? Years ago I wrecked an Oral B by using it in the shower. Also, is the Oral B louder than Sonicare? Can both reach around the back molars?
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 9 ай бұрын
Both can be used in the shower. But, preferably when not in use don't leave them sat in water. Normally Sonicare is quieter, but in this instance it is not. Depending on the specific iO model the noise is typically no more than 64 decibels although we have used some that go into the low 70's, whereas the Prestige registered at 71 decibels in our testing. Both will reach the back molars.

@ElectricTeeth Thank you, I've been researching all day and your video is the best comparison! The price of the sonicare 9900 in Australia is crazy, and it's the one I really want :( I have found a good deal on an iO 9... and an even better deal for an Oclean X Pro Elite. Do you think the Oclean is just as good as the soincare 9900 without all the bells and whistles as far as actually cleaning your teeth? I have lots of crowns/caps, so I like a good clean close to the gums, and my child has sensitive teeth & braces. Thanks again :)
@ElectricTeeth
@ElectricTeeth 9 ай бұрын
The short answer is they are all comparable in their ability to clean the teeth if used correctly. Oral-B and Sonicare are backed by more clinical testing and brand reputation. You would notice some difference between the Prestige 9900 and the Oclean X Pro Elite if used side by side, but for what the likely price difference is, it will be very hard to justify the Sonicare premium.

I have both. Let me tell you the thrue. By inovation sonicare is far away the iq when it comes to technology. Iq is very loud and the way they deliver the pulsation is not as good as sonicare 9900. Second. The battery on sonicare holds a lat more. the desighn and materials on sonicare is superb. Holding case is also important slik and very comortable. Let me go to the brushes - sonicare is far better for cleaning with high number vibrations is les lowd and feel more comfortable in the mouth as well. I can trully say that model 9900 is the best from the best when it comes to electric thootbrush. When it comes to sensors witch i dont care too much 9900 has a sense iq witch do all if you care about latest technology. All this desision is made by me with one year of using both cos my wife has iq 10 and for the last few months she use mine 9900. Actually i sold iq10 few days ago. Just recentlly saw this video and decide to drop a comment.

Well potentially, but it isn't that clear cut. Those who have reviewed the data say more research is needed, but based on what evidence exists Oral-B is better. They both do a great job. For some there are other influencing factors too.
