After two improbably excellent seasons, the smash hit 'Karate Kid' spin-off 'Cobra Kai' made its move to Netflix in mid-2020, where it immediately dominated the month of September on the streaming service. With countless fans now caught up on the decades-old rivalry between Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), as well as the new generation of karate students under their guidance, Season 3 takes the story even further with new alliances and old enemies. Ahead of the third season's Netflix release on January 1, 2021, Rotten Tomatoes chatted with Zabka, Macchio, and their young co-stars Xolo Maridueña (Miguel), Jacob Bertrand (Hawk), and Mary Mouser (Sam) to talk about diving deeper into Mr. Miyagi's world, the contrasting styles between Daniel and Johnny, reuniting with familiar faces, and where the series can go next.

I heard they start filming season 4 on January 20 so I could see season 4 being released late this year or early next year

Season 1 is the greatest I would agree. But this one definitely comes 2nd, above S2. Although they filled it in with sooo much stuff, I still felt like everything developed properly. And being a fan of Karate Kid, all season long it kept me asking for more. Now I am sooo ready for S4.

Thanks to the Cobra Kai team! You guys are keeping me wanting more and bringing back my childhood. I was 4 when I first saw Karate Kid. The young girl is a lot like my daughter and you bring the show alive. This show addresses the changes and the times where the protagonists and antagonists are blurred. I lost it when Allie came back. That was epic!

I will still put Season 1 slightly over Season 3 but barely. How surreal for a show like this to be so popular in these strange times.

Would love to see a Zabka/Macchio "buddy cop" or road movie side collaboration outside of Karate Kid, great chemistry with the two. But to my mind the heart and soul of Cobra Kai is Johnny and Miggy. Great writing by the, uh, writing team as well as performances on the actors part to really flip the script from the original movie. Season three was great for a number of reasons, had some issues, but their scenes were what kept me hammering the "continue watching" button.

S2 was really bad. Too many kid characters, too much teen romance triangles, completely annoying characters (the nerd guy from the hardware store was atrocious), and a plot that lost focus and went in circles. Season 3 was good again, and every time the focus shifts to the adults or Miguel, the chemistry is there. The Japan arc was also nicely written. It feels like the series lost its edginess though with Johnny no longer being a bum. Aside from Kreese, it's all just sympathetic characters fighting for more and more ridiculous reasons. I hope the reintroduction of Silver in S4 will bring back some much needed tension. And Tory's arc could be interesting, especially with Kreese and Silver turning her more vicious.

I've enjoyed all three seasons. Season one was the best. I agree the plot lines are silly, but I'm not sure how much you can do with the rivalry or keep it going without it becoming utterly ridiculous. I miss Johnny being politically incorrect. As far as the hardware store clerk, I thought "Stingray" was was hilarious. Their will always guys who will try to relive high school
