What's going on everybody?!? SeanPierceJohnson here and today we're going to check out the OR15 Amp head from the cats at Orange Amplifiers!
This is the next step up from the legendary Tiny Terror lunchbox amplifier. Get the classic, vintage British crunch...get high gain Metal & High Gain tones...and use it as a pedal platform! For real, this is possible.

This is best review of the OR 15 out there. Perfect length, educated us on how to get a clean tone, and whole range of tones. I was already planning on buying this amp but now I'm more confident that I won't be settling for a one-trick pony. Excellent work, my friend!

There are so many reviews of the OR15 and the vast majority are positive. I bought this amp the second a used one popped up at GC and got it for a steal. You have absolutely nailed this review, showing the range of capabilities that this tiny amp can do. 5 years later it still holds up.

This review is nothing short of fantastic... It's a crime this doesn't have more views. Based on the other reviews I've seen I wasn't expecting to see the tones that you got out of this amp. I was also relieved to see the versatility of this amp. Theirs too many amps out there that are one trick ponies or do a lot of things but not one of them well. Im playing two or15’s in “dual mono rig” with ppc212 closed back cabs. Sounds massive! Wet/dry rig is super fun with dual amps too. Or15 is the greatest home/practice/small gig tube head i have ever played

Great demo Sean! Thanks so much for doing this and especially for demonstrating how you can get clean sounds with this amp. I have had one for almost 2 years now and it is excellent. The amp pairs well with the Les Paul and I primarily play a Gibson Les Paul or SG with this amp too. Again great job!

You did a really good demo with this amp and I don't know what the one person who gave the thumbs down was wanting because to me you covered everything good job. I just ran into this amp at Guitar Center and I had actually never seen it before I saw it was used for about $450 and I tried it out and I really liked it.

Another great review! I am consistently finding that your reviews are great at showing the full range of tones something can do, and not just one style. Is there any chance you can do one of the Dual Dark? Pretty much all the reviews out there only show how heavy it can get.

Pretty standard review and I almost gave up on it and was about to click off and look up something else and you started in on that Van Halen riff and damn son you killed that. Amp review or not you had that business dialed. Kudos homie!

That first strum sealed the deal for me. Sounded so awesome!! Though I wish this was a 30w amp....15w can't keep up with my 2 guitar band. I know there's not much difference. I know 30w can and 15w can't.

Kinda depends on what you’re up against as far as the other guitarists rigs. I play rhythm guitar and our lead player is using a Marshall JCM 900 50 watt head with 4x12 angle cab. My OR15 through an Orange 2x12 vertical, open back cab can give him fits. My rig is just as loud and will not mud up at high volume like the Marshall half stack. He’s a “Marshall only” guy though and is threatening to get a 100 watt head now. Hahaha. I’ll just keep on rockin my Orange on our classic rock/early metal set list. I love it!

I got an OR15 and I love it! It's my first tube amp and it sounds amazing. Definitely worth checking out. I play a Strat and it gets those beautiful Stratty tones, as well as crushing doom tones. It's a joy to play. Pro tip: crank all the EQ for a killer sound. My only complaint is that it doesn't take my Pharaoh Fuzz very well. It farts out in the front end, so I put it in the FX loop and it still doesn't sound right unless you mess with the volume of the amp and pedal, basically crank the power amp. Other than that, everything else sounds great.

romixsoundstudios plugged into an Orange PPC212 with Vintage 30s. I believe I just used a Shure SM57 but there may also be a Cascade Fat Head ribbon microphone mixed in. Didn’t have any cab sim stuff when I made this demo.

Not sure if this is typical but when the master is cranked it almost sounds like there is a slight phaser sound on the trail of notes. My or 15 and yours does it too.

Hey there my friend! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The cab used in this video was my Orange PPC212 with Celestion Vintage 30s. I haven't heard it with anything else...what speakers do you have? I personally think this would pair nicely with Celestion Creambacks, which kind of feel like a softened Vintage 30 to my ears.

Wow we’re you given a guitar fresh out of the womb! Great playing! being new to guitar you inspire me to practice much more. This amp is on my list and the solid state cr120 by orange, not sure which one to get, but what about the speaker cabinet? I’m looking at the 4 speaker slanted orange cabinet, maybe an overkill for the home, but it looks cool.

Michael Cupka ah thanks man! Just keep playing, practice and stick with it. If you’re new to guitar, stick with the CR120. tube amps can be a pain to upkeep and can get expensive. Although I doubt the OR15 will fail you so quickly the CR120 will be good to go for a long time. I’d actually recommend taking a look at the Vertical 212s Orange makes. NEO Creamback Celestions is where it’s at, and it’s smaller and easier to transport when you start jamming with friends or playing shows. Keep it up and thanks for watching! I pretty much agree with what he said with one exception: If you can afford the OR15 get it! This is my reasoning: If you stick with playing the guitar this amp will serve you for the long haul and, if you don't stick with it, you can always sell it as tube amps, and Orange as well, have a higher resale value so you really won't be losing anything. Just my 2 cents, I like a few solid state amps but none of them can touch a tube amp IMHO.

I have a CR120c combo and it’s an amazing solid state amp. Probably the best SS amp I’ve ever played, but weighs close to 80 lbs. I also have the OR15 and the aforementioned Orange 2x12 vertical cab. This combination is killer! Simple to operate, easy to transport, tone definition that’s amazing at high gain even. Will get plenty loud too...hearing damage loud if in too small a space!

Thanks for the review! However, what is your chain? Cab? Mic? Preamp? Those have massive impact on the sound, maybe even more than the amp itself!

Cab is an Orange PPC212 w/ Vintage 30s. Cab is mic’d with an SM57. Preamp is an API a2D preamp.

good question. between the two the OR15 was what a preferred. this is for a couple of reasons but the main one is that I just liked the OR15's feel better. It got VERY close to my Rockerverb 100 tones...the Meteor got kind of close. at this point I had to send back the OR15 to Orange and I sold the Meteor to a friend...I don't have either of them anymore. and of the two, I wish I still had the OR15.

I love the tone of the OR15. I don't own an amp but looking at getting one. I'd love this but I'm thinking the single channel might not be the best option for me. Maybe the Rocker15 or Rocker32 would suit me better. Have you compared either amp to this? And thanks. Great great vid!!

hey man! thanks for watching and your kind words. I have not done a direct comparison of the Rocker Amps to the OR15 but I have intimate experience with all of them. I think the OR15 has a bit more preamp gain to it than the Rockers do. When I had the Rockers for a time I found that I usually was cranking the dirty channel's Gain to get a "high gain" sound and would still need a boost but the OR15 can handle higher gain on its own. If you don't mind using pedals to help get your gain tones the Rocker provides a bit more versatility.

hey man! thanks for checking out the video. that LP is actually a Les Paul Studio from 2003-2004, it was a Guitar Center anniversary exclusive model. I put some Seymour Duncans in it, JB in the Bridge and a Jazz in the Neck.

Nice review. I have a special edition Holy Terror version from the British factory. Mercury Magnetics transformers and upgraded capacitors. The tubes that came installed did not thrill me, so I went with Mesa SPAX7 pre and Mesa matched EL84 power tubes. It made it brighter and punchier. Love it through my Marshall 1960AX Greenback cab. With a Maxon OD808 it is rock heaven !

Question about the OR15 vs Tiny Terror. Apart from the effects loop, is the only difference tonally between the OR15 and the Tiny Terror the 3 band EQ? I have a Tiny Terror, so could I just stick an EQ pedal in front of it and essentially get the same tones and the OR15, or are there other differences in how the tones are shaped for these 2 amps?

Having had both I honestly think the OR15 get's much closer to the "modern" Orange tone than the Tiny Terror could get. You can crank the OR15's gain and get convincing metal tones but the Terror needed a little boost for "high gain". So I'd say the difference isn't just specs, it is in the sound and feel as well.

SeanPierceJohnson i have the same amp love the little bugger still learning things all the time about it. I think with you already owning an orange it allowed you to get to the nuts and bolts of the gain and volume interaction quicker than most which is key to getting the most from an orange. Awesome vidéo. About the mad fuzz sounds you got with OD pedal in this video : can you tell us how you set it ? Does a EHX soul food pedal would also do the job ? Thanks I already tried a big muff on OR15 and the result was quite bad ...

Well, the Fuzz pedal I used was the Pelican NoiseWorks Pelitaur...which the EHX Soul Food is NOT in any way close to. The key to the Big Muff working with the OR15 is using it much like Billy Corgan used his Marshall and Big Muff for "Siamese Dream": crank the Master and dial in preamp gain to taste. Too much preamp gain makes for flub. The other thing too is that the Muff is scooped...so your core sound has to have a decent amount of midrange to sound good.

Did these get discontinued? Dont see them on long & mcquades website I assume the terror 15 took its place. Theirs one used on Kijiji for 600can but honestly thats what they were selling for around Christmas new. If only I could get an orange tone from my boss katana head🤔

These are still available. From what I understand these have been gaining a lot of popularity over the last year, being a bit of a sleeper hit for their line. I think you'll only get the Orange tone from one place: an Orange.
