Hey Drew. I'm posting another video today on a repair I did over the weekend. Don't worry, we're about the same age, and it wasn't too bad. Just do your digging when the ground is soft but dry, maybe after a couple days of rain. I would definitely call to get your gas and water lines marked out first, if you don't know where they are. Good Luck!
@Dan-oi4kt

EZ trench makes two trenchers. One cuts a 2 1/2" wide trench and adjusts up to 13" deep. The other is an edger that cuts a 1"wide that can have a 7" deep blade put on it which is perfect depth. Check tool rental stores near you. That is what I'm going to get tomorrow

Thank you posting such a great video. I am hoping to tackle this in the next couple of weeks. I have similar water pressure to you and was wondering if it is working out ok having 5 sprinklers on the same line?
@mistercrick7698
@mistercrick7698 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ralph. So far so good. Just keep in mind that the default nozzles on these sprinkler heads only let out 0.5 gpm, which is about as low as it gets. If you were to use 2-4 gpm then I don't know how well it would work. It might still work, but I haven't tried yet. Recently I broke a sprinkler line while aerating, and water was gushing out the ground like a geyser. Even with that going on, my 5th sprinkler head in the line still worked like a champ, so it might be ok. I'll do follow up videos. Good luck with the install!

How much range distance of water were you getting per sprinkler head? like 15-20ft?
@mistercrick7698
@mistercrick7698 2 ай бұрын
I'm getting 20 ft, with my current settings. Running 5 heads per line (one line per zone). I have no need to spray over 20 ft, so I've adjusted the nozzle to spray wider. My max range can actually be closer to 24 ft, but the stream becomes very narrow and useless.

what is the water bib/faucet pipe size that run from inside of the house to the outside? I measured that it has 50 PSI, and 6 GPM, but not sure if that will be sufficient.
@mistercrick7698
@mistercrick7698 2 ай бұрын
Mine is the standard 3/4" GHT spigot. I'm not sure about the actual pipe leading to it, since my house is over 60 years old. 50 psi is a bit weaker than mine, so I'd recommend using less heads per zone if you buy this system.

Are the sprinkler heads that come with the kit self draining? As does that mean the system does not have to be blown out in Winter? Thanks!
@mistercrick7698
@mistercrick7698 4 ай бұрын
I don't know if the sprinkler heads are considered self draining, but the system does come with 4 auto-drains. Each sprinkler head contracts automatically under spring pressure when water is turned off at the timer/valve. The excess water runs down the pipe, to end of line, and capped off with an auto-drain filter (should be installed at each line's lowest point). This should work to prevent any damage in winter. We just made it through our first winter, with several below freezing days, and I don't see any issues with the system yet.

@mistercrick7698
@mistercrick7698 Жыл бұрын
It's been over a month and no issues so far. Keep in mind that these default nozzles are 0.5 gpm, so if you have plans to increase the water flow then there's potential for weakness on heads 4 and 5. For me, 0.5 gpm is fine. Also, my water pressure at the spigot is close to 60 psi, which is pretty strong.

@mistercrick7698
@mistercrick7698 Жыл бұрын
40 psi is a bit low, but according to Orbit instructions you should be able to spray 16 feet, if using no more than 3 heads per line. My system is at around 60 psi and it sprays about 22 feet max. What are the shape and dimensions of the area you want to cover?

Can these heads do full or close to 360 degrees?
@mistercrick7698
@mistercrick7698 Ай бұрын
Yes. These heads can rotate a full 360 degrees, but will not continue spinning. It will rotate about 360 degrees max, then spin back the other way. Coverage will be 360 if you want to install it in the center of a lawn, but it will rotate back and forth from the start/stop point. The coverage can be adjusted between 40-360 degrees.

@mistercrick7698
@mistercrick7698 Жыл бұрын
No. Even the dual-zone kit is not enough to cover your property. For reference, I'm using the full dual zone kit to cover my front yard, which is about 2400 sqft. You would probably need 3 full dual-zone kits to cover yours. For this to work you would want each one connected to its own spigot, so there's plenty of water pressure. Hope this helps.

@williamjeffries7749
@williamjeffries7749 Жыл бұрын
When you sat no pressure, is your pressure at the hose bib above 40 PSI? If not you might not have enough pressure to pass through the distance of lines you have. If your on a well water you might be able to adjust the pressure tank. Be sure to test the pressure at the hose bib before for doing any adjustments. If your under 40 PSI you will need to consider contacting a licensed plumber to see if your well GPM can handle a sprinkler system. The have options to boast your pressure at one hose bib. Good Luck

The most cost effective anti siphon device is a vacuum breaker adapter that can be mounted in-line, right at the spigot.

how are you winterizing your sprinkler system? I just installed mine this summer
@mistercrick7698
@mistercrick7698 9 ай бұрын
This will be my first winter with the sprinkler system. I live in Houston, TX and the winters aren't too bad...most of the time. My only plans are to shut off the water at spigot, turn off the water timer, and blow out leftover water using a weak air compressor. I'll probably just disconnect the two zones right at the timer and blow air into the pipes from there. Each of my zones also end with an auto-drain, so theoretically the water should drain out on its own, unless it's clogged. If it feels like the water isn't coming out then I'll unscrew each sprinkler head and visually check for water. Hope this helps.

Hi Richard. Sorry for the late reply; I've been out of town. This Orbit Blu-Lock kit uses 1/2" pipe and connectors. Sprinkler heads compatible with this system should have a 1/2" female inlet.
