I appreciate what you are hearing. The note I play is very low, but it is actually purer than an older drum playing the same note would be. We were also recording this primarily for voice and so not focusing on timpani sound for this clip. Timpani will also sound bad if you are listening on a phone or tablet. But I take your point; this low F is at the very bottom of our normal range and, had the note been higher in pitch, you would clearly hear that the sound is purer

Thank you God Father of Timpani. If I may say, I hope and believe there is a history of timpani as a field drum. They have volume to be heard in the outdoor distance. In the mid-sixties in Drum Corps we marched with 4 Timpani in formation with the Drumline. Melodies within the rhythm of the Drumline. What a joy! This was before Orchestra pits in Drum Corps.

Guy just has 400 years worth of timpani sitting around? Interesting I had never really even heard of these, until recently I saw a video of them playing a part in a classical piece. Okay, never mind, I didn't realize that these are the same thing as kettledrums. I didn't know they were adjustable though.
