I have worked in a bankruptcy law firm for over 13 years. Medical debt is the number one cause of people needing to file for bankruptcy. I've seen it countless times. Worse? Worse is that our service members have had to file because of medical debt. That's messed up. The entire system is broke. Looks like a great movie though!

There's a niche for everyone, so no need to denigrate movie genres that don't appeal to you. Movies that make billions make it possible for a movie studio to spend money on movies like this; i.e, movies that will not make billions and not worry about whether it will be profitable or not. Movie studios aren't in business to make you happy, they are in it for the money, just in case that's not clear. That said, I love superhero movies but I love these kinds of movies too.

I was under insured at age 30 when they found my grapefruit sized tumor. Lost everything and moved back in with my parents. Had friends who didn't make it die in medical debt. People want to vilify me for having to go on disability when i actually survived and lost everything. It's the whole system that needs to be reevaluated so people are sick can get care and not die drowing in medical debt. We didn't know our parents remortgage their home to pay for my moms diabetes medication and supllies either. When will people finally wake up for actual change? Other countries don't worry about loosing everything they worked for if someone gets sick or has an accident. We're a smart rich country. Time people speak up!!! This is wrong!

Ugh, I'm fighting to not cry reading your post. I understand you perfectly, your story is very similar to what mine is becoming, except I'm 51 (with a minimum of advanced liver disease and god knows what going on in my brain) and less than 6 years ago was the income-earner of my family of 3 (a hard-working high-earning corporate machine). Man, things change. You are absolutely right - it's not right, it's not fair, it's inhumane, and it's shameful. And no one cares, especially the federal govt, who are actively trying to steal from a family - my family - that is at or below the poverty line by using the IRS to claim ignorance over and over and over on thousands owed to us. Monies that could be useful right this minute to get critical specialist visits, imaging, meds, biopsies, continue treatment plans, etc. while still being able to pay for a loaf of bread, gas for the car (so someone can go somewhere to earn $! how shocking!), some sort of a roof. I'm definitely not at 100% right now, but I will send you what strength and positive vibes I have and keep you in my prayers, Paula.

I root for you, man ..but you have to realize, this will never change. People are not gonna wake up. Big pharma is not gonna stop bribing politicians, ehm. "lobbying" ... and the politicians will not suddenly start to care about the people. There are some great individuals in the US, but as a society and a country - it's too far gone, run by power-hungry greedy psychopaths who only take care of their own (other power-hungry greedy psychopaths). We only have ourselves to rely on... just keep grinding and keep your spirits high.

I‘m sorry about what you have to experience. I am from Germany, which is a democracy with a well running social system and health insurance both funded by taxes everyone has to pay, except the poor and unemployed. We have many health insurance companies, which are funded by these taxes, so no one has to pay if someone like what you experienced experience. To many Americans our system seems to be too communistic, which really isn‘t. We even help unemployed people with the social taxes to have the possibility to live a fairly decent life if possible. The American capitalistic system has a lot of issues which just widens the gap between the poor and the rich. The middle class is getting smaller and smaller. This already happens in Germany and the middle class is carrying everything via taxes, because the rich do pay too few taxes.

"Do you want to go on an adventure?" and hearing the little girl say uh-huh in response just melts my heart Alan Richson pulled it off in spades in the moment he's worried sick about her condition. But at the same time in that same moment in his role as a father, his task is to ease her stress and pain by taking her mind off it by having a spontaneous trip to the hospital a fun moment. I'm also sure that she realizes that he's trying to help her take her mind off her pain but she's just appreciative of her father in that moment as she plays along so in a sense they are helping each other.

When you have one child knocking on Heavens door, you leave no stone unturned. I know how that works. My elder son was paralyzed in 2004 by a drunk driver. His health was never the same after broken ribs, two disintegrated vertebrae, a cracked skull, bruised liver and kidneys and a herniated diaphragm which allowed his intestines to be wrapped around his heart. He spent 5 months in a Texas hospital. He fought for his life a few times during that time. Long story short. He died nearly three years later. Then fifteen years later his one year younger brother nearly died too. Seeing both my boys hooked too tubes and machines... So I will have tissues on hand when watching this movie for sure.

Looks like a film with an actual important message. We have a big problem with medical system in the U.S. all these great treatments ans therapies but access is not equal. Too many working class Americans go bankrupt or have to,resort to Gofundme campaigns. If someone can do something then they should. That might mean pitching in a little to help someone out. It shouldn't be that way in the U.S. but sadly it is.

You are right, but if you just cross the border from another country you'll get everything paid for and never see a bill. Something very wrong with that.

My mom's 50k in bills were reduced to 10k when she showed she was low income and they accepted payments of $50/month. When she died a few years later, the bills left with her. There is so much that can be done with medical bills for those who are struggling with finances and extenuating circumstances. People don't have to be bankrupted by medical bills. That being said, we definitely need to allow competition across state lines. Force companies to lower rates.

I love seeing Alan R getting more roles like a lot of others are saying. If you haven't seen the Reacher series then I would highly recommend it.

I love it especially because it shows how the little people make a difference in an unfair world,my generation stood up and marched to stop a stupid war and now everyone is just watching the daily tally from a stupid war and doing nothing just sending more weapons and thinking they are doing the right thing being armchair supporters.
