There's a deeper interpretation than this, but it's ultimately up to the readers/viewers to decide. Here it is: Yukino Yukinoshita: As to how she looks at Yui and 8man goes; those two are the only people that really matter to her as of now. Starting amidst the second season, she started to develop feelings for 8man (which is quite obvious). But she refrains from saying anything because she is aware that Yui likes 8man. To her, Yui is like a real sibling she thought she never had; and probably her closest friend she ever had/will have. Yui Yuigahama: She started crushing on 8man ever since he saved her dog. As the series progressed, these feelings only grew deeper as she began to understand the type of person 8man is. As for Yukino, Yui considers her, her best friend. Also, she's aware of the fact that Yukino started to like 8man. So she refrains from openly confessing to him as she thinks Yukino deserves 8man more than herself while constantly being torn in-between her own feelings and her best friends'. She is the main driving force for the progression of the story for these three. Hachiman Hikigaya: To him, both the girls are the people who will probably care for him the most in his life(apart from his sister). He doesn't want to lose either of them. He is obviously starting to see Yukino in a romantic way. But at the same time, he also doesn't want to lose Yui. Now, I can't really say if he actually likes Yui romantically or not simply because it wasn't clearly shown. He is, however, aware of the fact that both the girls like him. But he doesn't want to create any waves. Well, to summarize, these three see each other as the legs of a tripod, being in love with each other (romantically or in a friendly way), and if any of them were to confess, it would mean the end of their group; and the tripod would fall. This is why they kept dancing around while desperately trying to hold on to each other until Haruno finally snapped them back to reality. As for the other characters go, Iroha has a crush on Hayama, but at the same time started to see 8man in a new light. She will mostly develop serious feelings for him as well(maybe she already did?). And also, Hayama likes/liked Yukino(if you can't accept that, re-watch the entire season 2/ or at least the 11th episode ending). So he tries to rely on 8man again though he really doesn't like doing so. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now as for this episode, Yui is the MVP in this episode. She is the first person to come in terms with reality and accept the fact that the three of them cannot go on like this forever. So, she gathered all the three of them together as one last 'Hurrah' before everything inevitably falls apart. She played the role of a martyr this episode, trying to appear negligent to Yukino's feeling, while in reality she is trying to get them both together by playing the villain. By openly confessing to 8man(well, giving him cookies?), she hoped to pull out Yukino from her shell and admit her feelings for 8man. When that didn't work, she tried convincing Yukino to follow along with her plan to come to a happy ending. Now it's not really clear whether 8man understood Yui's intentions or not, but he still believed Yukino has to make her own decisions. PS: Notice the 8man's and Yukino's reactions when they see each other at the aquarium? What does that mean? Neither of them were aware that the other person was going to be there. To them, they were going out with Yui, and ONLY Yui.

The more I understand this episode the more I’m leaning on Yukino’s side now. Dang why can’t COVID just stop so I could watch season 3

When I watched this ending the first time I understood nothing; there were too many implicit concepts behind their words, and initially I just accepted the fact that this was an avarage anime ending like many others, with a banal but hidden moral that I didn’t really want to know. After i watched your video, i totally changed my mind. Even though it doesn’t make it so “clear”, this anime really tries to show every aspect of characters’ personalities; every word they say, every facial expression they do has a reason, and even past actions now have a meaning. This really is a good anime, and thanks you to make me understand that.

Oregairu conversation have double to triple layers. An hypothetical example: they can be talking about the poor management of a comittee, but you can project it to the way a friends group manage their relationship. I think in this episode they are aware that for Yukino is difficult to make decission on her own, they notice something when they were on Yui house. If its true about the translation error, things change a lot. Still i got doubts about Yukino family having problems with her being with Hachiman, i think most of it was because the choose she was making for her future, you know, choosing what she wanted to study. It was just a coincidence her mother meet her with Hachiman and Yui, she would get scolded anyway if she was alone. She was doing everything as her mother tells (or thats what i understood) until then, so when she didnt , her mom got worried. Well, i dont really know, but if it is like that, maybe Yui make the proposition to make Yukino and Hachiman realize what they wanted. If Yukino didnt reject it, Yui knew Hachiman would, and maybe the "dont tell me how i feel" now means "dont decide for me", hence being the conversation first layer about Yukino problem, and the second layer the problem of Yui, Yukino and Hachiman relationship. If we go by that interpretation, it coincide with lots of points of the video too (komachi points?). And maybe im missing another layer (?) Anyways, i find interesting how this series and Evangelion touch the themes of Human emotion and relationships, while parodying the conventional stereotypes of anime characters. Also! Going with the logic of something Genuine, i found a genuine emotion and its strange that me being someone so negative, im happy to say that almost everybody have experienced it: Real Love. Not romantic love, real one without any second intentions, AND I GOT PROOF that it EXIST! My proof its, if you could remember when you were a little child, very little, when mom and dad (or any family) come back from work, you run to hug it and didnt want anything in exchange, genuine love. Well years pass and you grew and hug because you wanted a toy or money and become a calculating bastard lol but anyways! Genuine thing does exists. Give a hug to your child ( when you have one)
