Using footage Todd captured years ago, Todd aims to tell the simple story of what it’s like for a fly fishing angler to spend a few days trying to catch a Pacific Northwest Winter Run steelhead on a swung fly. It’s not just about the catch. The real story is in the process, the getting there, the weather, the waiting, the failing, the final hookup and the land.
Jeff Hickman, co-owner of Fish the Swing and Kimsquit Bay Lodge in British Columbia, has a very few and far between guide's day off on a mighty coastal river that empties into the ocean on the Oregon Coast. A relaxed soundtrack accompanies more natural sounds than what you might find on Todd's past work. Capturing beauty shots of the river with nature surrounding Jeff, Todd drives home the vibe he’s after. Relax, chill out, take a breath of fresh air...and enjoy the sounds & visuals of this new film. Thanks to R.L. Winston Rod Company, Scientific Anglers and Orvis for encouraging people to get out on the water through the the art of fly fishing and film.

Todd M., your films have inspired me to begin a journey that I could have never imagined. I had no idea it would become an obsession and a new found respect for that beautiful wild creature that is a steelhead and the environs which it inhabits. It only took me five years - I finally landed an Oregon wild winter steelhead three weeks ago. I would have never experienced that indescribable connection had it not be for you and watching Jeff and Jakob in Winter Run. Thanks so much for sharing your talent, vision and thoughtful art. - Korey

The best fishing video I have seen in years on so many levels. Thanks. I hit the Oregon coast with my 2 hander last March for 2 weeks, living out of a rented mini van. Couldn't catch but it was amazing just the same

@@CatchMagazine I'm in Indianapolis, believe it or not. Have had quite a few physical setbacks the last 15 years. 10 orthopedic surgeries have left me unable to fish anymore. My oldest daughter Kate has become a terrific fly fisher. We were in Manzanillo last year and she and her husband caught their first 100plus lb. Tarpon. Yes, that was a great trip we had. Wish I still had the video, but it was lost years ago. Anyway, congratulations on your successes.

I know the main location of this film, and I would never say it, but would it be ok to talk about the hooks with loops tied on at 1:25? Does anyone know what this is? A faster way to change out stinger hooks? On tubes? If not, ok, please ignore, but I figured if they zoom in on it, it might not be a super secret, idk. Fabulous videography as usual, and Jeff is a true Jedi
@jonzotee2744

Most likely just stingers Jeff chopped off to replace but were still usable. Mono loops for tubes.

Casting almost 90 degrees. Swing is too fast. Hookups fail at 90 degrees. Longer line, longer rod, 45 degrees to the current, better hook up.

That fish properly cost him 2000 an inch when you consider all the time effort and money spent, As they say, the tug is the drug. Worth every dime and then some. I can't think of a better way to spend January and February. that fish for the fish of a 1000 casts. The only downside is being wet and cold, not the sort of thing to do alone I would think but I would just because. No cameras no phones, just me the fish, and the music of the running water.
