I was a science teacher in Prineville, OR in the early 80s. As a result of my efforts to put together a field trip for my earth science students, I was told of a mastodon just outside the Prineville city limits. With the permission of the land owner, I was able to use students to excavate the fossil which turned out to be a mammoth. The fossil was buried in a gravel quarry and we spent the better part of a year recovering the remains.

Ironic that there's no mention of Siletzia, given that Eugene is located right in the last major exotic terrane to dock with Oregon! (50 mA).

There's a big mistake concerning exotic terranes. It is claimed Wrangelia was the last to turn up. That is wrong. Wrangelia and the Alexander terrane turned up as a single unit, the Intermontane Superterrane. That was 100 Ma. However the last terrane to accrete was actually Siletzia, 50 Ma. Siletzia is very significant for Oregon as it essentially makes up all the bedrock west of the High Cascades crest. It underlies both the Willamette Valley and the Coast Ranges. Only in the Klamath Mountains is the coastal bedrock not Siletzia.

Siletzia makes up a good chunk of western Washington's basement also.

How much entomology was considered when comparing trilobite samples? Arthropods have 3 or 4 life cycle stages (instars) from egg to adult; some juvenile stages look nothing like adults, some are just slightly different. Whenever I hear about trilobites in a study as an age or location marker, they’re always treated like they’re all in the same adult instar. China? Japan? Really!?

Did he say the Keasey Formation is associated with the early Ancestral Cascades? Huh, that doesn't make sense to me. Seems like it should be included in Coast Range sediments, and late Coast Range volcanism?

to many people say the same kinds of animals are different kinds because of some little color difference or bent ear - not that many kinds of animals at all butterflies insects they meaning you all do that all the time with every thing and plants -again not that many different species as you all think
