You see the organic and Non-GMO stamp on lots of food, but there's a huge difference between the two. Non-GMO is nice, but organic is way better when you have the option. Get 10% off Laird Superfood unsweetened creamer using code "UNSWEET10": bit.ly/3irZEiD

@@dertythegrower ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING GROUP CALLED OUT by the non-profit GENETIC LITERACY PROJECT "Newsweek headlined its article, “Dangerous Weed Killer Ingredient Found in Cheerios, Quaker Oats and Other Breakfast Cereals.” These were two of literally hundreds of news outlets that botched coverage of what scientists say is a dubious study of breakfast cereals and granola bars by virulently anti-GMO Environmental Working Group, a Washington DC-based public health advocacy group. The study was well-timed. EWG appears to have commissioned it to roll-out when a California jury was expected to reach a verdict about whether Roundup, Monsanto’s herbicide whose main ingredient is glyphosate, caused a San Francisco groundskeeper to contract cancer. Basic facts The fundamental, consensus conclusion: A bowl of cheerios, or a daily bowl over months or even many years won’t endanger your health. Why? Because we are talking about minuscule amounts of glyphosate-well below the levels that would be considered dangerous. It’s almost certain that EWG would have found trace levels of dozens of chemicals (similarly harmless)-if they had tested for any other chemical. But EWG only tested for glyphosate. For context, let’s review a few fundamental facts. First, glyphosate effectively kills weeds, but not much else. Humans and animals don’t possess the metabolic machinery-the shikimate acid pathway-used by the herbicide to kill plants. That means glyphosate is not metabolized well in the human body, greatly reducing its potential to do harm. Moreover, the herbicide is broken down by bacteria in soil after it’s sprayed on food crops and as a result “shows no signs of bioaccumulation in the food chain,” according to California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation. Trevor Charles, a microbiologist at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, added in an email that “Glyphosate is rapidly degraded by microbes, and also absorbed to soil particles. It does not bioaccumulate.” Hundreds of studies, including by the Environmental Protection Agency, have found glyphosate poses no serious health threat to humans. A [150-lb] person in the US would have to eat …. 62 lbs of produce at the highest level of allowed residue every day in order to reach the limit …. 2 mg glyphosate per [2.2 lbs of] body weight per day. This allowed level …. is set [a] hundred times lower than the level for no observed adverse effects …. in the most sensitive lab animal species tested. It is physically not possible to eat enough of normal produce to reach that level. EWG detected glyphosate in breakfast foods in the *parts per billion range (ppb), which is insignificant to human health*. geneticliteracyproject.org/2018/08/17/children-killer-glyphosate-found-in-cheerios-experts-dismantle-environmental-working-groups-glyphosate-study/

I trust the NONGMO label more than the government organic label. Monsanto pads government official's wallets, so you be the judge of that one. Also I'm highly allergic to corn, but the people in the medical field tend to fluff it off like it's nothing. It's no different than a peanut allergy. It can kill me, especially when it's in the form of alcohol. A lot of Keto products contain sweeteners made with corn alcohol, which is why I cannot go 100% Keto like most can. 😢

We live near plant City Florida where a lot of produce comes from we have noticed in strawberry and tomato fields that use the black plastic as mulch they do not use the chemicals on the plants while they are growing or fruiting but at the end of the season they spray them down with something that kills them within a few days whatever that is still enters the ground and the plants in the future will have access to it. This is just my observation.

@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon 3 жыл бұрын
You can but there is no need. Glyphosate is the least toxic of all herbicides - table salt is more toxic to humans. You'd have to eat 260 pounds of grains from fields treated with glyphosate to get enough residues in a single day to reach the max safe dosage for that day only, Because it does not bio-accumulate, you'd have to eat more than 260 pounds of such foods every day to exhibit the minimally detectable effect. Glyphosate is not used on any fresh produce, just on some grains. Sweet corn is not GMO or glyphosate resistant. This video is click bait trash. It is still wise to wash fresh foods to remove all pesticide residues and possible e-coli or salmonella because of the many far more toxic pesticides and pathogens that are not safe like glyphosate.

What does it mean when on food labels it says “contains bio engineered food ingredients”?
@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon 2 жыл бұрын
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GMO LABELING IN 2022 You may recall, in 2017 the government passed a national Genetically Modified Foods (GMO) labeling law to have one uniform standard for labeling GMOs, also referred to as BE (bioengineered). Congress passed the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard in 2016. This required the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to establish a labeling standard for GM food. These requirements were originally set to take effect by July 2018. But the USDA extended the implementation two years after a public comment period. On December 20, the USDA released the official law, which they will implement at the beginning of 2020 and require food companies to comply by January 1, 2022. You can read the entire current proposal here. [hyperlinked in the article] WHAT DOES GMO LABELING MEAN FOR YOU? In the near future, you’ll start to see GMO/BE foods labeled in a variety of ways. While companies aren’t required to use the GMO label until January 1, 2022, you might start seeing the new labels sooner. Many companies have already started labeling their products and support this national labeling standard. The rule states, “bioengineered food … shall not be treated as safer than, or not as safe as, a non-bioengineered counterpart.” That’s because research has proven that bioengineered foods are safe. These new food labels are simply informative for the consumer, not indicative of safety or nutrition. WHAT WILL GMO LABELS LOOK LIKE? Once put into law, you will see three different labeling methods: Text on food packaging (example: Partially produced with genetic engineering) A symbol that represents bioengineering An electronic or digital link that can be scanned Smaller food manufacturers with limited resources may also choose to label their GM foods using a telephone number that can provide additional information or an internet URL. The law requires labeling only on bioengineered foods intended for human consumption that contain more than five percent GMO ingredients. Instances where GMOs do not have to be labeled include: Foods derived from animals, such as eggs, meat and milk Refined ingredients like oils and sugars Food served in a restaurant Foods manufactured and sold by very small manufacturers (local shops, etc.) Any non-food products While GMO labeling may be changing, the safety of our food isn’t. Just as before, food labels should guide to make the right choice for you and your family - not scare you into making a more expensive purchase. Farmers, parents and experts have shared their thoughts on GMOs and making the best choice for their family." www.watchusgrow.org/2019/01/08/everything-you-need-to-know-about-gmo-labeling-in-2019/

You just thanked a liar for industry propaganda. If you are under 40 years old you have never seen a world free of the largest longest marketing propaganda campaign in all history. *Organic industry tyranny for 33 years and counting:* "Although GMOs are regarded as safe as their conventional counterparts by every major food safety authority in the world, the organic industry spends nearly $3 billion a year through over 330 different organizations leading with fear and “information spin” as an industry to sell their products. They also sent a $160,000 cash bribe to the IARC to buy that claim of a low cancer risk from glyphosate, it paved the way for abuse of our legal system in false cancer lawsuits. By creating an unfounded fear that requires tighter regulations on GMO crops, they are hoping to force them out of the food supply, thereby creating a bigger market share to sell more products in their more than $65 billion wheelhouse. The unfortunate consequence of these [non-GMO] labels is that the food companies and lobbyists tend to create an unnecessary “us vs. them” divide. When food companies use fear against competitors to sell a product, farmers take it personally." www.agdaily.com/insights/farm-babe-label-trends-end/ Now why do you suppose organic food is so expensive?? Imagine what 3 billion dollars could do for humanitarian goals - end a different disease forever every year.... End all hunger in at least one country...... Funding nasty propaganda? Really?? www.foodnavigator-usa.com/Markets/The-organic-food-industry-has-been-engaged-in-a-multi-decade-public-disinformation-campaign-claims-report?OnSite&

Hi Bobby. I ordered Costco through Instacart and while I ordered organic stuff, I received non-gmo stuff. Anything that we can do to encourage these companies (Costco, instacart, etc) to better distinguish organic vs non-gmo?

Environmental Working Group’s ‘Dirty Dozen’ produce list stokes pesticide fears in an ‘already anxiety-ridden world’ An open letter to Mr. Ken Cook, President - Environmental Working Group Your announced plan to release the so-called “Dirty Dozen” list under current circumstances is misguided and concerning. As you are well aware, this list is not only scientifically unsupportable but peer reviewed research has shown it negatively impacts consumers and discourages consumption because it erroneously raises produce safety fears. On behalf of the organic and conventional farmers we represent, we ask that you rethink your decision to release and promote this list due to its undermining effect on health efforts to increase consumption of the very foods we are urged to eat more of to boost immunity and prevent illness. Now is not the time to release more inaccurate and fear-based messaging into an already anxiety-ridden world. In addition, your list has been repeatedly discredited by scientists. A peer reviewed analysis has shown that your organization follows no established scientific procedures in the development of the so-called list. Moreover, this analysis found that your list’s recommendations to substitute organic forms of produce for conventional forms does not reduce risk to consumers simply because residues are so low, if present at all, on conventional fruits and vegetables. Further, calling fruits and vegetables “dirty” is exceptionally disrespectful to organic and conventional fruit and vegetable farmers. These are the farmers who continue to work hard every day to ensure Americans (as well as citizens in other countries) have an adequate and accessible supply of food in these very troubling and uncertain times. It should be noted that the government has deemed farmers and farm employees as “essential” to our nation’s security - something most of us have recognized for a long long time. Mr. Cook, we all must adapt to this evolving environment, make difficult decisions and change. We have called on you previously to abandon releasing this list. But, now more than ever, we ask for your leadership to stop your organization’s practice of knowingly stoking misplaced food safety fears and denigrating the work of farmers through the release of this list. Now is the time to put consumers first and support their choices whether they choose organic or conventionally grown produce. Now is the time to use your organization’s considerable resources to help promote a healthy diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables. With only one in 10 Americans eating enough each day, the EWG could help make positive and important strides in improving diets. Please, do the right thing. I try to buy both NonGMO and organic if I can. I had watched your video on the basics of boxed mac and cheese. You showed "Annie's" as one of the best, because it was organic. But as of July 2022, it doesn't have the USDA stamp as "organic" on the box. I thought it HAD to have the seal. Not sure if it could no longer carry the seal because of the "cheese" powder. If I recall in the past when I bought it, it was labeled "organic". Not sure what I'm getting there.

Don’t forget, glyphosate is also considered an antibiotic and is not supposed to hurt humans, but affect you gut flora....plus, it works on by chelation. It binds with the minerals in the soil so the plants die from a deficiency in those minerals. So what happens when it’s in your system? Lastly, you should mention that the USDA copyright the word organic, so if the maker of the product wants to say its organic, they have to pay the price.
