I don't know when everything changed. The in thing now is the day after Christmas to take everything down. I remember years ago when I was younger, Christmas to Epiphany was more celebrated. Friends and family would stop in casually during this time, and everything didn't seem so rushed. Miss those days. Now today, Christmas starts the day after Halloween and Valentine's the day after Christmas.

I'm Christian Orthodox celebrating Christmas on January 7th. The January 7 date is based on the Julian calendar which existed before the Gregorian one. Since my kids married into Christian Catholic families, we all together celebrating both dates and our decorations stays up for more than month and a half. For us is well worth all the time and energy that we spend setting it all up.

It’s our tradition to keep our trees and decorations up until January 7th, the day after Epiphany. The 12 days of Christmas begin on Christmas Day and ends on Epiphany, which is supposed to be the day that the three wise men came to pay homage to the Christ Child. Many in our area also celebrate Russian or Orthodox Christmas on January 6th. I love that Samantha Grace enjoys helping you even at her young age! In Puerto Rico we love Christmas a lot. We start Christmas decorations after Halloween and take down the decoration by January 20 others wait until February 2. When we have the celebration Candlemas, is celebrated on 2 February and marks the return of light, a symbol of protection and prosperity. This Christian festival commemorates the presentation of Jesus at the Temple of Jerusalem, referring to him as the light of the people of Israel. Falling exactly 40 days after Christmas, Candlemas (or the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary) was observed as the official end of Christmas in medieval England.

It's an old house. Unfortunately, old houses are being overly modernized or torn down because of lack of knowledge about them. People just want a house so they buy one and paint the wood or tear it out for more modern and clean lines. Many of these old houses are very expensive to heat, cool, insure, and maintain so they end up in really bad condition and people want to tear them down... because the don't realize that these houses were made to last and can be saved and restored in almost all cases. Fortunately, the garden answer family appreciates and respects what they have.

Great video! It’s so nice to put away the decorations and prepare for the new year. I’m a little concerned about all the comments about when it is appropriate to take down Christmas decor, particularly the comment that suggested that people who take decor down before January 6th are “pretend Christians”. How a person worships Jesus and celebrates his birth is personal and doesn’t require decorations at all.

Big job & so satisfying when done! I would have loved to have seen more of how you wrap & organize the ornaments inside the totes though.

This may sound silly, but I’m so impressed how well the trees fit back in their boxes. For some reason, that’s always an issue with me. 🤷‍♀️🎄

your theme for the church decoration was inspiring and so in touch with our current world events. I shared your video with many of my friend. I am never quick to make a comment but I want you to know your videos are a blessing to me. Not just because of all I learn but for you and your family who make the world seem a better place. God bless you this coming year.

WOW!!! Your storage attic is the stuff of an organization dream! I imagine Paul and Bethany love their jobs, it shows because they are so enthusiastic and good about getting things done!

I never take my decorations down until after New Year's because of the old wives tale that bad luck for the rest of the year if taken down before New Year's day. I used to do it after Christmas until I had the worst year ever! I bought more outdoor stuff again this year which means more totes. Then next year before the holidays I will have to add additional outside electrical outlets for my every growing outdoor decorations for Christmas. My grandson ran from one decorations chanting "Tan Tuh".

It was wonderfully fun to see you arrange and take down and organize everything from the house decorations out to the barn. You are so blessed with so many beautiful things.

Good God Laura! Where do you find that much energy? I am so jealous. I love your organization skills (because they remind me of mine 😊) but it would take me days to do all that. ❤much love from my house to yours!

Laura, do you have pictures of the kids with Santa each year? At 2:07 when the oval frame came into focus on the right side of the Santa tree, my thought was "Wouldn't it be fun to add pictures of the kids (or the whole family) with Santa as a tradition & a reminder through the years...?" 🥰 A living history.

Wow, props for disassembling the big artificial tree yourself! We also pack our trees in tree bags and box. Wardrobe size boxes topped with a large moving box make great, sturdy replacements for deteriorating tree boxes.

This was greatly motivating! Love it. As you put away your Christmas decor, it reminded me of seeing a glimpse of your mom’s nativity set. Next year, would consider doing a viewer compilation of Nativity displays big and small? I think it would be beautiful!
